He rose to power and assumed the title of youngest monarch in history. Sheikh of Qatar Early Life and Education

The second son of Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned and the fourth son of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was born on June 3, 1980 in Doha, Qatar. He attended Sherborne International and Harrow School in England, respectively, for his education. Tamim then enrolled at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where he eventually earned his degree in 1998.

After his elder brother Sheikh Jassim renounced his claim to the Qatari throne in 2003, Tamim was declared to be the heir apparent. Ten years later, after the boys’ father abdicated the throne, Tamim became the new Emir of Qatar. He has continued the tradition of the Emir holding all executive and legislative power while restricting citizens’ access to most civil and political rights while presiding over the nation’s autho Tamim has worked to reduce the fiscal budgets of many of the nation’s institutions while placing a special emphasis on domestic issues. Since taking office, he has presided over the development of new roads, a metro system, and an airport. Tamim has pushed for solid ties with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt among other nations on the international stage.

Tamim has made it his mission to raise Qatar’s international profile through the promotion of professional sports ever since he was named the heir apparent to the throne in 2003. He established Paris Saint-owner, Germain’s Oryx Qatar Sports Investments, a shareholding company in 2005. Tamim presided over the planning committee for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha the following year. He quickly rose to the position of chairman of the Qatar Olympic Committee and launched an unsuccessful bid for Doha to host the 2020 Summer Olympics. Tamim was more successful elsewhere, winning Qatar the rights to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the 2030 Asian Games, and the 2014 FINA Swimming World Championships.

When Tamim was successful in his bid to have Qatar host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he attracted a new level of attention. It was the first Arab country to be awarded hosting responsibilities. However, the selection was met with a great deal of controversy, mainly because of claims that bribery and other forms of wrongdoing were involved in the selection process. Over a variety of topics, controversy persisted in the run-up to the World Cup. Tamim and the Qatari government came under fire for a number of human rights violations, including their treatment of foreign workers who helped with tournament preparations—many of whom died on the job. Sheikhas Naylah, Rodha, Moza, Sheikhs Abdullah, and Alqaqaa are among their five children. Sheikha Noora bint Hathal Al Dosari and Tamim wed in the beginning of 2014. Sheikha Hind, Sheikhs Joaan, Mohammed, and Fahad are their four children.
