Mohammed bin Salman is the famous Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. Mohammed bin Salman’s Net Worth $5 billion. He is King Salman bin Abdulaziz’s seventh son and is considered Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler. He has also served as Saudi Arabia’s defence minister and deputy prime minister.

After King Abdullah died in January 2015, his father, King Salman, became the King of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister. At the same time, Mohammed bin Salman was appointed Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. In June 2017, MBS was appointed as Saudi Arabia’s First Deputy Prime Minister.

Mohammed Bin Salman Early Life

On August 31, 1985, Mohammed bin Salman was born to then-Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz and Fahda bint Falah Al Hithlain, Abdulaziz’s third wife. Mohammed bin Salman is the eldest of his mother’s children, as well as his father’s eighth kid and seventh son. He earned a bachelor’s degree in law from King Saud University.

After completing his academic education, Mohammed Bin Salman worked in the private sector for a couple of years before becoming a private aide to his father. He began as a consultant for the Experts Commission, which worked in collaboration with the Saudi Cabinet. At the age of 24, he became a political counsellor to his father, who was the governor of Riyadh Province at the time.

He rose through the ranks, moving from one position to the next. When Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz died, bin Salman’s father gained power and appointed his son as his personal advisor. Following the death of Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz in June 2012; his father became the next crown prince.

Bin Salman was appointed Defense Minister in 2015. The political instability in Yemen was one of the first challenges he had to deal with in this post. However, due to the absence of a coordinated reaction across all agencies in Saudi Arabia, bin Salman was chastised by several, both within Saudi Arabia and internationally.

Bin Salman was designated Crown Prince and heir presumptive to the throne in 2017. Bin Salman launched a clean-up inside the Saudi government and corporate sector in May 2017, stating that corruption will be identified and eradicated even at the highest levels.

Billionaire and Saudi royal Al-Waleed bin Talal, director of the Saudi Arabian National Guard Mutaib bin Abdullah, and Minister of Economy and Planning Abdel Fakeih were among those detained. Many of those detained were subjected to the “night of beating,” in which they were beaten and bound to walls as a form of torture. His ways got as much criticism as he was praised. 

In general, bin Salman has been regarded as a patriotic leader with a conservative approach to politics but a more liberal approach to economic and social concerns. He unveiled Vision 2030, a strategic vision plan aimed at reforming Saudi Arabia’s economy and making it more diverse and privatised.

Domestically, Bin Salman has prioritised the liberalisation of Saudi society. In April of 2017, he revealed his intentions to build the world’s largest sports, cultural and entertainment towns in Al Qiddiya. After a 35-year prohibition, he also launched the country’s first public cinema in 2018. He has implemented many economic changes and proclaimed a shift from the ultra-conservative Saudi Arabian state to one that is more moderate and tolerant of all global religions. At the same time, various human rights violations, notably against women, have now been documented in Saudi Arabia.

Mohammed Bin Salman Personal Life

Bin Salman married his first cousin, Sara bint Mashour, the daughter of his uncle, Mashour bin Abdulaziz, in April 2008. Together, the couple has five children.

Bin Salman loves buying costly mansions, boats, and artwork. In 2015, he acquired the Italian-built yacht “Serene” from Russian vodka mogul Yuri Shefler. Salman also got his hand on the Chateau Louis XIV in France that year. In December 2017, he paid over $450 million for Leonardo da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi,” setting a new record in art sales. 

Bin Salman travels frequently and keeps advocating the interests of Saudi Arabia to many major political officials, entertainers, and business leaders.
