In Rockville, Maryland, on September 4, 1966, Jeffrey Tremaine was born. Jeff spent a lot of time travelling from state to state with his family as a “military brat.” He developed an obsession with skateboarding, BMX, reggae, music, and various other aspects of the skateboarding subculture during his formative years.
Jeff attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, after graduating from high school. He received a fine arts degree from his 1989 graduation. Tremaine flirted briefly with a career in music during this time by fronting the short-lived band “Milk,” which had a single called “The Knife Song” that was very well-liked in the skateboarding scene. This song was used in the iconic skateboarding clip “Blind,” and it was later used again in “Jackass: The Movie.”

After graduating from college with a degree in graphic design, Jeff found employment with publications like “Big Brother” and “Go.” Both of these publications were very well-liked in the skateboarding scene.
