Eminem Early Life
Marshall Bruce Mathers III was born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He spent his childhood in Missouri with his single mother before settling in Warren, Michigan. Marshall Sr. and his wife divorced before he was born. And Deborah “Debbie” Rae Nelson was in a band called Daddy Warbucks, which played mostly at Ramada Inns in the midwest. Debbie and Marshall moved back and forth between Michigan and Missouri after their divorce, never remaining in one spot for more than a year and living largely with family members. Marshall was a loner as a youngster who was constantly tormented at school. They resided in a mostly black Detroit area during his adolescence.
Eminem wanted to be a comic book artist at first, but that changed after hearing his first rap song, Reckless – Featuring Ice-T, from the soundtrack of the film “Breakin’.” Ronnie, his half-brother, gave him the record as a present.
At the age of 14, he took on the rap identity “M&M.” (based off his initials). He dropped out of high school when he was 17 years old. He did various jobs while creating songs and competing in freestyle rap contests around town.

Slim Shady
Marshall finally acquired fame and appreciation within the Detroit hip-hop community. He became a member of Bassmint Productions, which was eventually renamed Soul Intent. He made songs for Mashin’ Duck Records and FBT Productions while working as a chef and dishwasher for minimum money. In 1996, Eminem released his debut album “Infinite” through the record label Web Entertainment.
Around this period, he acquired the rougher, more aggressive character “Slim Shady.” He rapped about drugs, violence, sex, rape, and murder under the alias Slim Shady. In the spring of 1997, he recorded “the Slim Shady EP,” which was released by Web Entertainment the following winter.
Meeting Dr. Dre
Eminem was included in The Source magazine’s unsigned hype piece in March 1998. He got evicted from his house not long after and chose to fly to Los Angeles to partake in the Rap Olympics. He came in second, but more crucially, an Interscope Records employee liked what he heard and recommended The Slim Shady EP to business CEO Jimmy Iovine. Dr. Dre, who had recently formed his own company Aftermath Records and was seeking for new talent to sign, had Jimmy Iovine play the record for him. After being discovered, Eminem soon signed a deal with Aftermath Entertainment to re-record and polish The Slim Shady EP, with Dre serving as Executive Producer.
The record was a financial and critical success right away. It finally went 4X Platinum in the United States alone, earning Eminem a Grammy for best rap album.
His subsequent albums were absolute beasts. In May 2000, he released The Marshall Mathers LP, which became the fastest-selling hip-hop album in history, selling over 21 million copies. His following album, 2002’s The Eminem Show, sold over 27 million copies.
Shady Records/50 Cent
Eminem established his own imprint, Shady Records, under Aftermath Records in 1999. D12, a group of Detroit rappers known to Eminem, was the first artist to sign with the label.
While filming “8 Mile” in 2002, Eminem was introduced to an underground New York rapper named 50 Cent. Eminem had heard a few of 50’s mixtapes and was keen to add him to the company. 50 Cent quickly became Shady Records’ first solo artist. The soundtrack to 8 Mile was released by Shady Records the same year, and it went on to sell over 11 million copies worldwide.
Eminem Personal Life
Eminem has become somewhat of a recluse superstar in recent years. He has publicly struggled with drugs and is now clean. Much of his personal life was constantly exhibited in courtrooms throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. He has been at odds with both his mother and his ex-wife Kim. Kim and Eminem have a daughter named Hailie. Eminem also has custody of Whitney, Kim’s daughter from a previous relationship, and his niece Alaina.
Eminem Real Estate
Eminem paid $1.483 million for an 8,900-square-foot house in Clinton Township, Michigan, in 2000. This has been his principal abode for many years.
He paid $4.8 million in 2003 for a 15,000-square-foot mansion in Oakland County, Michigan. It was the previous Kmart CEO’s residence. Visitors should be aware that Eminem has converted the property into a veritable fortress, replete with electric fencing and guard booths guarded by armed security 24 hours a day. In addition, the entire area is gated and secured by extra security. Surprisingly, Eminem hardly resided at this home. He put it for sale in 2017 for $1.99 million, and it finally sold for $1.9 million.
