It’s not every day that one comes across a heterosexual man writing an extensive review about women’s beauty and skin whitening creams.
But heck! Here is one. And you’re going to love hearing about the products that I have to showcase for you today.
And to keep my reviews a tad bit authentic, let me just come clean right now and tell you, ‘NO!’, I have not used any of the ones I have listed today. They have all been tried and tested by my sister, who as a beautician and a skin care enthusiast was the prime Wikipedia for each of them.
Heather (that’s her name btw), wants to launch her very own skin care product based youtube channel, and these products are the ones she wants to review for her first episode.
And because of my passion for online marketing, she asked me if I could first do my own article of them, and that’s precisely why I am here today.
And I promise you, or rather Heather promises you, that these are by far the best skin whitening creams out there in the current market.
So, let’s take a look, shall we?
The Best Skin Lightening Cream – A Comprehensive Guide
My sister has compiled a comprehensive guide of 5 of the best skin lightening cream available in the market today. The products have been reviewed to bring you an unbiased ranking of products that fit the criteria of a Lightening Cream.
1. The Zeta White.
To start off my list today, we will be taking a closer look at the Zeta White and how it can effectively bring about a brighter looking skin tone even on the dullest of complexions.
Now, there is one thing to note about the Zeta White, which is quite unique to the brand as well as the product itself. Though my article today is about whitening cream, when it comes to the Zeta, the night cream alone is not complete, and I must put some emphasis on the face wash and moisturizer as well.
The whole whitening process of the Zeta is laid out in three steps and is quite systematic.
The complete Zeta pack is absolutely free of any sort of harmful ingredients; even mercury is not involved with its production. The manufacturer is all about using safe, yet effective ingredients to bring about a lighter and much more balanced skin tone.
Some of the more prominent compounds that go in their make are coconut oil, papaya extract, lemon extract, mango extract, and xanthan gum.
They are perfect for reducing the pigmentation in the darker areas of the skin, while at the same time helping in cell regeneration in the parts that have suffered the most sun damage. Why should you go for the Zeta White?
As I have mentioned before, the whole skin lightening process of the Zeta is quite systematic, and that’s precisely what makes it so unique.
Now, as Heather explains it, when using the Zeta, you must first begin with the face wash. The Zeta White face wash, contains a high amount of papaya extracts, which is enzyme rich and helps to lighten the skin naturally.
There are traces of lemon extract as well, and that goes into reducing the amount of melanin that your skin produces.
After the face wash, comes the night cream. The Zeta night cream is something that Heather is incredibly fond of. As it contains high levels of Allantoin, the cream helps to remove dead skin cells from the damaged portions of the dermis, and help it to heal in a very natural way.
Allantoin also boasts anti-inflammatory properties and can work towards not just reducing acne scars but to revitalize your skin as well.
Finally, comes the moisturizer. Now the night cream because of its cleansing property tends to leave the skin dry and sensitive to UVA and UVB rays, and the moisturizer helps to prevent just that.
Now, the Zeta moisturizer is jam-packed with licorice extract, which not only helps to grant the skin a natural glow but acts as a natural sunscreen as well. It’s absolutely amazing when it comes to shielding the skin from the harmful effects of direct sunlight, and it’s moisturizing property insulates the skin from dry weather and keeps it fresh and hydrated.
From the face wash to the moisturizer, each Zeta White product complements each other and brings about a complete skin whitening which not many other products can compete with. What about the Zeta White could have been better?
The greatest strength of the Zeta white is also its greatest weakness. The three products are a perfect skin whitening solution when combined together; however, individually, they are rather incomplete. So to get the desired result, you will have to purchase all three and not just one singular bottle, which can rather inconvenient for many.Pros
- Unique 3 step system for a safe and complete skin whitening process.
- Doesn’t contain any harmful products.
- The moisturizer doubles as a sunscreen
- Perfect for all skin types, as the system covers all bases.
- Takes a long time to show effects.
- Requires a lot of dedication to get the desired results.
Now, a lot of you may not have heard of the product called Meladerm from Civant Skincare.
It’s not all that advertised, and even a lot of skin care specialists tend to overlook it as it doesn’t have all that many reviews or even traction.
However, Heather, more or less swears by this product, and according to her, it is perhaps the best skin whitening cream when it comes to treating hyperpigmentation or reduce the risks of it.
And apart from reducing the effects of melanin on the skin, Meladerm goes a step further to get rid of dead skin cells, germs, as well as toxins to clear out the pores and prevent acne. The peeling effect is quite visible and imparts a long-lasting freshness, which is quite unique of a skin whitening cream.
When it comes to the base manufacturing materials or the ingredients in other words; much like Zeta White, Meladerm too is made completely out of natural resources.
To begin with, it has licorice, mulberry, and bearberry extracts. These ingredients cumulatively work together to reduce the effects of melanin on the skin.
Melanin is synthesized into something which is called melanosomes, which contain a certain amino acid called tyrosine, which is again turned into tyrosinase.
So, to cut my science lecture short, the above extracts specifically work on this acid bases and reverses much of their functions from the darker areas of the skin to bring about an even toning throughout the body. Why go for Meladerm?
Well, if you have oily skin that suffers from a lot of hyperpigmentation, then Meladerm is going to be the perfect fit for all your skincare needs.
As it works very intimately with the skin (sort of like a second skin you need to peel) by treating the texture, the tone, and pigmentation, it’s perfect for both fair and dark complexions. Not only will it be effectively able to exfoliate the skin of all its dead skin cells to open up the oil pores but produce a sort of a moisturizing effect as well.
Anti-aging and anti-wrinkle properties are also one of its key features, and as it helps to revitalize the skin, women who are quite well advanced in their age can seek to benefit from it as well.
Now, an even toning throughout the body, may it be your face or your underarms, or the birthmark across your torso is something which Meladerm specializes in. And it’s all thanks to how it’s ingredients seek to work on the melanin-rich areas of the skin.
In terms of its moisturizing capabilities; Meladerm has the ability to draw moisture in the skin. This is one of the major factors behind the healing and revitalizing effect of the cream and makes Heather buy another bottle every time she is done with the previous. What could have been better?
Now one major gripe that Heather does have about Meladerm is that it’s exclusively for the ‘oily’ and ‘combination’ skin club.
It’s not all that recommended for users with dry skin, as Meladerm has a very strong scrubbing effect on blocked oil pores. And dry skin hardly has any blocked pores to speak of, so a strong scrubbing on an already open pore can lead to skin irritation and itchiness.Pros
- One of the best skin lightening products for oily skin.
- Treats hyperpigmentation amazingly well.
- Evenly tones every single part of the body.
- Removes dead cells and moisturizes to revitalize the skin.
- Not suited for all skin types, especially dry skin.
3. Olay White Radiance.
Olay has been in the skincare industry for a very long time now. So, when it comes to their skin lightening products, you know that you’re going to get a cream that does more than just whiten your skin.
Because of their constant drive to achieve the ultimate in beauty standards, Olay White Radiance has been developed to make sure that your skin attains fairness by highlighting your skin’s own natural hue.
Apart from the usual composition of water, glycerin, ethylhexyl salicylate, isopropyl isostearate, dimethicone, polyacrylamide, octocrylene, polyethylene, and cetyl alcohol Olay further uses certain key ingredients which makes them incredibly efficient when it comes to whitening.
Out of them, Niacinamide and Mulberry extracts are the most noteworthy. Niacinamide is perfect for preserving the skin’s moisture content; it also significantly increases the natural exfoliation rate of the sebum and helps to remove all dead skin cells on application.
Mulberry extracts, on the other hand, inhibits the functioning of the enzymes which are responsible for the production of melanin, thereby reducing the chances of hyperpigmentation. What makes the Olay White Radiance the perfect choice for many?
Now, the technology or rather the unique formulation that Olay uses for their White Radiance is their very own trademarked CelLucent technology that seeks to bring out the deeply rooted fairness at the cellular level.
Heather tells me that to Olay; their skin treatment is all about providing natural solutions than relying on harmful chemicals that just bring about a temporary fairness.
Hence, their Whitening Active complex that goes along with the various fruit extracts consists of Vitamin B3, Pro Vitamin B5, and Hesperidin. They collectively influence the epidermal layers of the skin by improving their translucency and renewing them along with locking the moisture in.
Though it has a light scrubbing effect, it’s not as strong as that of Meladerm; making it perfect for a variety of skin types and can suit extreme dry skin conditions rather well.
When it comes to hyperpigmentations, Olay treats that rather well as well. Too much of melanin synthesis or an overproduction of melanin is what generally creates dark patches on the surface of the skin.
Hence, by decreasing the melanin transfer and then scrubbing out the dead cell, Olay ensures that the skin cells that float up to the surface of the dermis are naturally fair.
This state of a natural fairness is quite long lasting, and on a daily application, before bed, you will start to see significant changes in your overall complexion as the skin starts to tone out evenly. What could have been better?
There is a reason why the product description, as well as some of the more prominent fairness experts, consider this cream to be a bedtime exclusive. Like most other standard skin whitening products, Olay tends to leave the skin photosensitive and quite vulnerable to the UVA and UVB rays of the sun.
Unlike Zeta White, it doesn’t come with its own sun blocking feature, and going out in sunlight after using it can lead to aggravated hyperpigmentation. So, you will have to apply sunscreen separately.Pros
- Perfect for all skin types, even dry and sensitive skin.
- A nighttime cream that revitalizes the skin.
- It tries to impart a naturally light he on the skin and even out skin tone.
- Locks in moisture efficiently to make the skin smooth and supple.
- Has a tendency to leave the skin photosensitive after use.
4. Revitol Skin Brightening Cream.
Revitol is one of the bigger names in the cosmetic industry and is quite well known across the world as manufacturers of some of the best moisturizers and anti-wrinkle creams.
Their skin brightening cream or serum is one of the latest additions to their line up; however, much like the rest of their products, the serum is more skincare oriented than brightening really.
Revitol is known to use natural and herbal extracts to not just lighten skin but reduce acne scars, freckles, liver spots, and dark pigments.
Ingredients such as allantoin is included in the formulation and is one of the best natural sources of moisturization. Not only does it soften and smooth the skin but looks towards preventing the growth of bacterial and fungal microbes as well.
Lumiskin is another essential ingredient that goes into the making of this cream. It has amazing antioxidant properties and is the prime benefactor behind the product’s brightening effect. It controls the melanin synthesis of the skin and makes the dermis appear more translucent.
Shea Butter is the final major element of the Revitol Cream. It’s nature’s richest moisturizer and will help keep your skin hydrated even under the driest of weather conditions. It also acts as a sunscreen and promotes the healing of damaged and sunburnt skin by naturally revitalizing it.What makes the Revitol so very special?
Now, ingredients aside, what in Heather’s opinion keeps the Revitol a class apart from most other creams in the market is how gentle it is with the skin.
Just like Meladerm is aggressive with the skin pores and actively tries to clean them, Revitol, on the other hand, is very soft and caring. It’s one of the, if not the best skin lightening cream for private and extra sensitive areas such as the nipples and the vagina.
It’s antibacterial and antifungal properties will be able to keep the intimate areas clean and fresh and bring about an even skin tone by minimizing dryness and gently exfoliating the dead skin cells.
Revitol makes the skin incredibly smooth. It wards off the lumpy texture and fights against hyperpigmentation by acting as a sunscreen and reducing the photosensitive nature of the skin.
As it hydrates the skin and locks in the moisture, it acts as an anti-wrinkling agent and will not only make you feel younger, but fairer and fresher as well.
As it’s not an aggressive skin bleaching solution, you will be able to use the Revitol for a wide variety of skin types. It suits both dry and oily skin perfectly well, and it’s all natural formula causes no irritation at all. What about the Revitol did I not like?
When it comes to the cons of this cream, the major one that Heather speaks of is how its skin lightening ability is not at par with the other mentioned names on the list.
So, she will not be recommending it for those with a much darker complexion, as there will not be any significant changes in skin tone.Pros
- Gentle on the skin and treats various skin-related symptoms.
- One of the best skin care products for intimate regions.
- Contains a lot of natural moisturizers that keeps the skin smooth and healthy.
- Can be used for any sort of skin types.
- Skin lightening effect is not as good.
5. Biotique Dandelion Ageless Lightening Serum.
Boutique is all about sticking to history and tradition when it comes to providing their customers with one of the best solutions for skin care and skin whitening. Their product formulations are based on 5000-year-old Ayurvedic recipes which strive to strike a harmonious balance between the body, the mind, and the spirit.
Their whitening serum, again a night time-based cream is organically very pure and comes with zero traces of preservatives and chemical additives. It’s tested by a wide panel of dermatologists, who have deemed it to be safe for use for all skin types, even the ones which are extremely prone to acne breakouts and rashes.
Well, after a bit of research on the ingredient base of this cream, my Sanskrit vocabulary has positively improved, to say the least.
However, at the risk of sounding like a Hindu monk clad in orange, let me just list the base materials out for you.
- Bihidana (Pyrus Cydonia)
- Halon (Chansaur)
- Jaiphal (Myristica Fragrans)
- Badam (Prunus amygdalus)
- Surajmukhi (Helianthus annuus)
- Khamir (Saccharomyces)
- Doodhal (Taraxacum officinale)
- Groundnut Oil,
- Himalayan Water Q.S.
A staggering lineup isn’t it? And this vast range of herbal ingredients is precisely why the whitening cream from Biotique is so very amazing when it comes to treating as well as whitening the skin. Why go for the Biotique Dandelion Ageless Whitening?
For the price range that it comes at, the Boutique ageless whitening cream is going to be one of the most affordable solutions for all types of skin care and skin whitening.
Due to its pure herbal base, it’s a very safe product for use, and as it’s gentle on the skin, using it on the more dry and sensitive skin is possible as well.
The Biotique is going to keep your skin plump and glowing and make your skin look much healthier than it usually does. The herbal extracts have a revitalizing or, a rather rejuvenating effect on the dermal layers of the skin and is a rather perfect product for fighting against the appearance of dark spots and acne.
We all know how amazing herbal products are for cleansing and deeply nourishing the skin; the same is true for the Biotique cream as well. It cleans out clogged sweat pores by removing the dead skin cells and bringing out the natural brightness of the dermal layers.
After using this cream for herself, Heather suggested, that the primary role of this cream is to even out the skin tone and not to change it. It just decreases the pigmentation of the high melanin concentrated areas of the skin and then moisturizing them.
This is what provides the skin with its natural glow and not completely change out its tone. What could have been better?
Now, the Biotique cream is very gentle with the skin when brightening or treating it. But, for certain skin types, this becomes a problem as it takes weeks to show results, and I am specifically talking about oily and combination skin here.
The results start to show slowly only after the fourth week, but that’s for oily and combination skin. When it comes to dry skin, the action is rather fast, and you will start experiencing a brighter and a more plump skin tones in just a few days.Pros
- The most affordable and cost-effective skin whitening cream on our list.
- Purely herbal build, with an incredibly safe ingredient base.
- Gentle action makes it perfect for all skin types.
- Cleanses nourishes and moisturizes the skin.
- Takes a long time to show results for oily and combination skin.
Buyer’s Guide: How to pick the right Skin Lightening Cream for you.
Before you purchase the lightening cream that you really fancy, there are a few things you need to keep in mind to make sure if it’s the right pick for you.
- Will it fit your skin type?
Looks like a no brainer doesn’t it? However, Heather tells me that the total number of women who buy skin care products before looking at which skin type they cater to is quite staggering in Seattle alone.
So, you can imagine, how many in the entirety of the States, opt into purchasing such products without being fully aware of the type of skin they have and if the cream they like will suit them or not.
Skin types can be briefly categorized into normal, dry, oily, or combination. Sensitive skin is also a variant; however, it’s not skin type specific, and your skin can be allergic to or have adverse side effects to a lot of products.
For example, products that contain lemon juice can be perfect for moist skin types, but when it comes to the dry ones, it’s simply a no go. As it’s known to create a lot of dryness, it does have a tendency to make dry skin look very flaky and patchy.
So, do try to have a firm knowledge of your skin type and product compatibility before purchase.
- Will it be able to help you achieve your desired results in the long run?
Not everyone, looking for a skin lightening cream is doing so with the sole purpose of fairness in mind. Many want to opt in for a product that can double as a skincare specialist as well, and treat certain skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation and dark spots, along with providing a lighter complexion.
Some of the best lightening creams are specifically designed to ‘reduce the appearance of dark pigmentation by inhibiting the production of melanin in problem areas.’
Now, Heather suffered from a lot of acne scars (by virtue of puberty and excessively oily skin), and she had a hard time reducing it with the more standard lightening creams and moisturizers.
Hence, if whitening is not the only thing that you’re looking for, then search for those creams that cover a lot of bases when it comes to skin care.
Apart from just hyperpigmentation and acne scar, a lot of the top products today also deal with sun damage, birthmarks, and even uneven skin tones, thereby acting as an all in one product.
- Consult a Doctor for Allergic Reactions.
This “head’s up “ is for those who have sensitive skin which is extremely prone to acne and rash breakouts.
Beware of whitening creams that have a lot of chemicals in their base composition. There are numerous skin whitening products in the US that contain hydroquinone, which is a chemical bleaching agent that is known to be extremely bad for sensitive skin and has consequently been banned from a lot of countries.
So, try going in for a skin test with your local dermatologist to see if certain chemicals like hydroquinone are alright for your skin type or not. Though a 4% is generally prescribed by doctors when it comes to skincare products, however, that’s only for normal skin; the sensitive ones can have a very rough time coping with the adverse side effects of it.
Hydroquinone can also be very carcinogenic in higher amounts, so, even for normal skin, going for a skin lightening product that has no chemicals in it can be the more positive choice. Sure! The effects of the naturally based creams can take a long while to show, but they are much more beneficial in the long run.
- Thoroughly check the ingredients at the back of the bottle or box.
I cannot stress this point enough, really. And this is precisely where all your knowledge of skin types and chemicals come in to play.
So, when purchasing the skin whitening product, read the ingredient list at the back of the bottle or the box very very carefully. You should be looking out for certain additives such as hydroquinone, mercury, and steroids, and look for products that have an ‘all-natural’ base.
And by ‘all-natural,’ I mean to search for ingredients such as bearberry extracts like arbutin, mulberry extract, Gigawhite, kojic acid, and Vitamin C. These base elements are just perfect for various skin types and help to prevent not just hyperpigmentation, but dryness, patchy skin, acne scars and so much more.
Naturally based pigment reducing creams work the best to bring about the desired skin lightening tone.
- Should be Sunscreen Compatible.
Any form of skin whitening treatment (may it be by both naturally or chemically based products), has an incredibly high tendency to leave the skin photosensitive.
If you’re suffering from hyperpigmentation, or want to reduce the risks of hyperpigmentation, then it’s best to either not go out in the sun after the treatment or use appropriate sunscreen or clothes that completely cover your body.
However, in this regard, if you ask me, sunscreen seems to be the more practical choice.
Why stop your daily activity at all just because of a skin treatment? Am I right?
Hence, pick a skin lightening cream that is going to be compatible with the sunscreen that you’re going to use afterward.
Additionally, when it comes to the sunscreen; for usage after a whitening treatment, the higher the SPF, the better. As your skin will be made significantly more sensitive to UVA rays, your skin will immediately start to tan if there are no sufficient UVA and UVB blockers on it.
It’s never really easy to pick a skin whitening product that can not only suit your skin but also produce the desired results. However, I hope that my review and guide today was able to help you on your way to better skin health.
