This is not such an unusual practice, but in this case did it have anything to do with keeping the content of the pictures secret?

…so that explains why some of them seem to look in some odd direction, I guess.
i doubt they photographed them separately to keep the final product a secret.
more likely it was done so that the individual pics could be used as individual promo stills.
