I think there is a law with LOST and awards that states: if nothing else, nominate Michael Emerson. Our own Benjamin Linus takes away the only nomination for LOST at this years Golden Globes. Edging out LOST for best TV show:
Big Love
Dexter
House
Mad Men
True Blood
With the exception of one show, all deserved. I think the True Blood nom was for season 1, because frankly… season 2 was difficult to sit through and lacked everything that made season one great. After all of those orgies, I’ll never be able to watch Caligula without getting nauseous. LOST Definitely deserved that spot. Rant over. Wait. Not over. World press, get over your fascination with copious nudity and vampires – the world will be a better place.
The nomination is a huge vote of confidence for Emerson, though. Check out his competition:
Michael Emerson – LOST
Neil Patrick Harris – How I Met Your Mother
William Hurt – Damages
John Lithgow – Dexter
Jeremy Piven – Entourage
Lithgow definitely presents the biggest threat here. He showed more rang in Dexter than all of the actors combined, and the last couple of episodes blew the doors off. Not that Dexter isn’t great to begin with, but “Hello, Dexter Morgan” is must see TV.
On our side of the aisle, Michael continued to deliver what we expect and totally surprised as a Ben Linus transitioning from a position of game-master of destinies, to ‘prisoner’ of fate. Of course we are a biased crowd, but I still think he has a shot here. If Piven wins, I’m moving to France.

I disagree with True Blood being nominated at all… but season 2 was much, much better than season 1. The first season was messy and unorganized. Season 2 had a focus and did cliffhangers second only to LOST. Great season, but it was still a guilty pleasure and not worthy of a nomination. I would definitely bump House for LOST. And True Blood for Friday Night Lights.
I have to totally disagree, Season 2 was almost painful to watch. luckily enough I would watch it after Mad Men(so I was already happy)
Agree to disagree. But based on the massive ratings spike and much more recognition, something was working in season 2 that wasn’t in season 1.
i just hope that it doesn’t continue to get worse(like Big Love) did…as it is I can’t even make it through the extended opening which drags on forever
Agree to disagree again! Big Love is coming off its strongest season, yet. Fantastic acting on that show. Can’t wait for its return in a few weeks.
I love Michael, but I’d have to give it to Lithgow. His performance as Trinity on Dexter was amazing. Michael could still win next year, right?
Agree, Kevin. It should go to Lithgow. I’ll let LOST clean up the awards season next year.
Doc you may want to mention what award Emerson was nominated for..
Oh, you’re right…
set decoration
Oh, I had heard it was costume design
Am I the only one that thinks Terry O’Quinn got snubbed? He did spend half the season after all portraying someone else portraying his character.
Well regarding Terry and the Emmys, he chose not to have himself considered. He was quoted as saying he doesn’t believe in being awarded for the same character twice. Some believe (i’m one of them) he didn’t want to take the glory from his very good friend Michael Emerson & perhaps even wanted to give Josh a chance. I wonder if this might have carried over into the Golden Globes. Just a thought. I haven’t researched the nomination process for the Golden Globes.
LOST will clean up next year, when it wins Best Series, Best Show, and Best Experience of all Time.
TV award shows tend to heap awards on deserving shows at the last possible chance, don’t they?
Tell that to Battlestar Gallactica…
The Oscars did it with ROTK, which was more of an acknowledgment of the Trilogy than the last movie per se’.
John Lithgow on this. Season 5 for LOST wasn’t as much character driven as past seasons, more island history driven. I like that season 6 will be focus more on the characters and their destiny. Hopefully awards next year.
As for Dexter, I wish John Lithgow survived the season and was off the grid because the FBI and police are looking for him.
How great would it be if he just drove off and Dexter found Debra like that after searching for Arthur all night and that’s how it ended. They don’t always have to kill the main bad guy after every season. It’s good to have a Joker for every Batman. A reoccurring villain.
Yes I too had hoped (prior to the finale) that they might keep Lithgow around for next season. What an incredible season this was of Dexter.
Well since so many agree… I gotta say, Lithgow for the win… and for the emmy next year. Michael has definitely earned the recognition at this point and the nomination is enough to prove that he still holds folk in awe.
Oops, thought Michael would be a shoein until I saw John Lithgow on the list. I just repeatedly told people that Lithgow would be winning awards for his role on Dexter, didn’t think it would be so soon. I thought it would be an Emmy for Guest Star next year, forgot about the Golden Globes. LOL and as i’m typing I see Doc thinks the same thing.
Big Love has been nominated in the Drama Show category. My CRS problem must have creeped in; I didn’t remember Big Love being on this year. Since there were no Big Love Emmy noms (and Bill Paxton normally gets a nod) I thought the last we saw Big Love was in 2008. I know its coming back in 2010, oh well (shrug).
Wow. Evils sells, doesn’t it? Something tells me hanging out with Hollywood types, you wanna’ watch your back….
I’m rooting for Mad Men or Dexter. I don’t think that the rest of the series should have been nominated (not when you have: Lost, In Treatment and Breaking Bad with such great seasons). And I watch some of them, that’s why I say it.
And about Emerson, I’m happy for him, he deserves it, but he doesn’t really need it, he knows, we know and everybody knows how good he is. But I’ll be rooting for him anyway.
And LOL about your comments about this season of True Blood, Doc. I couldn’t agree more.
lol. Epic fail on bad mouthing season two of True Blood. It was better in every way possible than season one. LOST should have taken Mad Men’s place, which is an extremely pretentious garbage television show.
Mad Men rulez, dude! It’s awesome.
I watch How I Met Your Mother and NPH is brilliant in his portrayal of the female seducing, joke dropping, legendary New Yorker Barney Stinson. NPH is hot right now in Hollywood circles. I’m not saying he is more deserving, but he is good. Perhaps the nomination alone is NPH’s “trophy” per se. I think it’s interesting he is the only performer that isn’t in a drama.
I agree with the above that LOST will have its moment in the sun next year, just as ROTK, West Wing, and The Sopranos did on their way out after a great run. I would expect Evangeline, Michael and Matthew to get nods and perhaps Terry and Jorge depending on how much screen time the ladder get. The show will definitely be nominated alongside other non acting categories.
