Actually, some other recappers have commented on it, calling it symptomatic of the groupthink that belies DHARMA's more utopian aspirations and gets them wiped out in the Purge 15 years later. (Don't forget, kids, the Purge isn't until 1992!)

But, honestly, I suspect that most of us just didn't find the scene that interesting. I mean, yes, they mention Ann Arbor (home of U of M and its Ph. D. candidate DHARMA founders, the DeGroots), but really it didn't end up telling us anything we didn't already know.

Remember Ben dissing DHARMA for its inability to coexist peacefully with the natives to Locke in the Orchid in "There's No Place Like Home"?

I think some details about what preceded and precipitated the Truce, and caused the DI to take such a militaristic attitude toward the "Hostiles" would be much more interesting than simply reiterating that they have that attitude.

But hey...the good Doc is soliciting contributors and Lost can never really have too many interpretations. ;-)

I really don't think it's safe to assume anything on this show. I'll wait until it's confirmed - then I'll believe it.

Also, I'm surprised that no one is discussing the "voting" scene. Some interesting stuff there!

HAH!

Well, I think that Ben's shooting of Locke at the DHARMA grave was his answer to Sayid's shooting Young Ben in the past: an attempt to foil a known outcome.

Whether or not Ben knows about Locke's resurrection is another matter entirely. And I'm thinking Locke's "following Ben" days are coming to an end. He's gonna have Richard and the Others on his side after coming back from the dead. Think about it...who else would have told future medic Richard that Locke had died except for Locke himself? ;-)

The weird part is I actually made that one up about the centipede's bowling ball. But hey, maybe it'll catch on. ;-)

As for the rest...well...I think that for the plot of this episode, "truth serum" makes sense (and there was no way it was simply LSD, despite the use of a sugar cube and eyedropper). Sayid would be able to resist torture pretty well, and he'd also always know that the actual truth would be unbelievable, so it'd be a matter of throwing lies against a wall until something sticks. Somehow, Sayid had to play "Cassandra" here.

And, like I said, I don't think we're done with Oldham. Least I hope not, or I'm going to be kind of disappointed.

What imfromthepast said. It only LOOKS predestined to you, subjectively, because of the record of it in the objective "past."

Just a comment on Sayid's seemingly paradoxical nature...his gentleness and romanticism juxtaposed with his ability to kill and torture. Do of course pardon a bit of hyperbole on my part in calling him "impossible." Poetic license, nothing more.

Thanks, Hipster...though actually, before I red your comment here, my good friend Bundt commented to me on Facebook that it was in that episode. I was being (pardon this) a doofus and forgetting it had been said as early as that.

But yeah, I'm betting we find out what that errand was really about. We haven't had our Ben-centric episode this season yet. ;-)

It wasn't said, but it didn't need to be. There was a jailbreak and a great big flaming diversion. Even as a troubled youth, Ben was more than smart and resourceful enough to pull that off.

as you live your life, you exercise your free will to make a series of decisions. your memory of your past decisions is a record, indicating the path your free will led you on.
The fact that you have a record of the decisions you made in the past no more invalidates the free will used to make them than does a record of your future decisions from the future would invalidate your future use of free will.
