beach-movies2[1].jpgAlas, the traditional outdoor Lost premiere has been cancelled.  I've been cooridinating with some folks at ABC on some upcoming media related to the Lost season 4 premiere at UGO, and other places, and got the word from a highly placed source that Sunset has been cancelled.

This is sad news in a lot of ways.  Can there be little doubt that this is partially motivated by a refusal of WGA and SAG members refusing to support the event?  All WGA members are being ordered not to support their shows, and SAG is supporting the WGA in the strike.  So while this was not confirmed as a reason for the cancellation, you can't help but wonder.  At any rate, it is a big bummer.

That is a big bummer! Stupid strike! I hope they come up with some sort of resolution soon. I miss my shows!

I work in the "industry" (set lighting) and am out of work because of the strike. I do not, however, blame the writers whatsoever. They have not handled the negotiations perfectly (their chief negotiator seems mostly interested in fame, unfortunately) but they are not asking for anything they shouldn't be getting. In fact, they are still not receiving what they were promised from the advent of the home video market in the 80's. The business is very healthy and I find it absurd that the studios are not willing to share in any meaningful way. That's why I feel the studios are the cause of the strike, not the writers, and the possible compromising of shows like (my personal favorite) Lost.
There's my 2 cents.

Well, I walk a fine line on the strike. I believe in the issues as presented in "Why we fight," but I felt my sentiment was being used to further a hidden agenda. There are issues on the table that have nothing to do with "Why we fight." And I don't like being hoodwinked. The demand of WGA leadership that showrunners shirk their own shows, and by proxy their fans, is also unforgivable. If the fans forget the shows, and discover the deception of "Why we fight," the guild only stands to lose the PR battle... which shouldn't be waging in the first place. I'm not happy with either side.

I too am torn with this. The strike must end, however I do agree with the writers. It sucks that the strike has to mess with this season of lost.

P.S. I found some lost shirts if you are interested:

That is a drag but I somehow thought it would happen. I had planned on going in hopes that we'd have at least the showing of the premiere eppy for S04 but I never thought any celebs would attend (YAY for them!). I miss my new shows, too, but what these people are striking for is worth much more than my inconvenience.
