locke-in-casketLife and death is a central theme of LOST – and just about any other action adventure sci-fi fantasy – but when you are talking about the life and death of a character as iconic to LOST’s narrative as John Locke, you’re not just talking about some run-of-the-mill Macguffin—you’re potentially talking about the life of the show.

“Some evidence (particularly an aged photo copy of one of Faraday’s journal pages) suggests that they are in the future.”

I don’t see this, considering that Faraday and his journal are currently in the late 70s/early 80s.

Relative to what? ;) My mind is sort of stuck in season one time, so our present is the future.

Relative to when flight 316 took off. I think the 316ers are in their present, the year/date they took off from LA. At least there isn’t anything yet to suggest otherwise.

Faraday is “currently” in the late 70s/80s, when Dharma was still functioning. If he were to lose his journal or if someone were to get ahold of it back then, then that would explain the aged photo copy Ceasar found.

    haha, fair enough.

So, I guess, what do you mean by “they are in the future”?

Flight 316 took off in 2008.

So even though all of this time travel talk is 100% riveting, I have another theory…

I don’t know if this was implied or if anyone else caught this, but “The pilot” and “woman” that took the third boat that was there, I think its safe to say that Sun is that woman. Everyone else has been mentioned or seen (except Sayid, but he doesn’t exactly fit either of those descriptions).

Ok we need to stop using terms like past, present, and future. They’re just confusing and not exactly important anymore. What is important is the actual year. Say 316ers (including old Ben, Locke, Lapidus, Sun) are in 2008 and everyone else (including a young Dharma Ben) are in 1980. That’s it.

“Only fools are enslaved by time and space.” Our characters have broken the shackles of space – they are back on the Island. (Let’s leave Desmond out of this for the moment) but they are still helplessly enslaved by time. What I’ve been thinking about is how the Island may be under all their feet, but what’s beyond the Island’s barrier for each of them? Since they are in different timelines, could one group be looking out towards completely different locations on the surface of the Earth?
