Well folks…. most of us have recovered after not having a new episode last night to watch. Right?  No?  Well, if you can’t wait until next Wednesday,  Kristen has  some jaw-dropping news for you.  (Apparently, the cast member it concerns was the last to know!)

But now, inside sources spill that a major character death is coming—and that the person who is leaving the show was not the first to know.

So, could it be Evie? If not, who is it?

Here’s what I can tell you about this death:

  • A current series regular is getting killed before the end of season five.
  • The character who will die is someone who is much-loved by many of you fans.
  • This is a real leaving-the-show death, à la Shannon or Charlie, not a quick-fix time-travel death like Jeremy Bentham/John Locke.
  • The character getting killed off is not, I repeat, not Evie’s character Kate Austen.

  1. MsDee says:

    Doh its juliet
I know it is only becuz kates back in the pic and having sawyer dump juliet for kate will make his character development useless but if she dies than he will be the hurting hunky hero:(

  2. Ambivalentman says:

It can’t be Sawyer. My guess is that it’s Juliet. I’m just hoping/praying that it’s not Hurley or Desmond.

  3. clueless1der says:

My worry was that it was Sawyer. I mean… that would explain why after what… 2 seasons? Three? they gave us a whole Sawyer-centric episode. He’s had his struggle and overcome it. What if he does something heroic to save the others? (Note… Could that be the Others?! lol)

    • Mirko says:

“…that would explain why after what… 2 seasons? Three? they gave us a whole Sawyer-centric episode.”

      Exactly!

Flowers don’t last long. Once blossomed, they pass fast. ;)
If there is a war coming, wouldn’t (former) heads of security go to fight the front?

  4. MsDee says:

I can see that If it is him he will def die as a hero
    Top that Jack!!!!

  5. professorstotch says:

I have this feeling about Sawyer. The post says the person took it very hard. If it were Sawyer, this would make sense. He’s finally getting into the spotlight as a leader-type, and now they’d kill him off. That’d make me take the news very hard…

    • clueless1der says:

That’s a shame though… I mean I guess anyone would take it hard to find out they weren’t directly told after 5 seasons on a show. I hope that’s not true, because I think that’s a really crappy thing to do to someone. Even if it’s “for the show” that STILL sucks.

I have to be honest… I would be okay if it were Juliet (because the Sawyer angst that would follow would be awesome!) Also if it were Jack I would probably light a candle- unless he goes back to Awesome!Jack and not Drugged-out-life-falling-apart Jack.

If they take Hurley from me I will write a very stern note.

      If it’s Ben….. forgedaboudit !!!

      • Uncle Beaver says:

I might be alone here, but I LOVE the path that Jack has been put on. He goes from Leader/Hero/Confident, to a shell of his former self, and seems to have accepted that he has a DESTINY. His character has DEFINITELY gotten more interesting as of the Season 3 Finally.

Actually, it might be more of a shocker if Sun and Jin get back together, only to watch one or the other die! Sun has gradually become less interesting over the past couple seasons, so I wouldn’t be that sorry to see her go. Actually Charlie was one of me least favorite characters until the end of Season 3, when he died.

  6. martin says:

well if you go to dark’s site you can see the list of possibles in the poll.

  7. Dr violence says:

    Its Sayid….

  8. Dawn-a says:

    I wish it was Jack!!

  9. monkeyface says:

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I hope it isn’t SAWYER! He is my favorite character. The fans will not take his death well, so I could only imagine (if it were him), that he wouldn’t take the news well, either.

I hate to lose any of our beloved Losties, but if it is Sawyer, i would be sooooo depressed.

  10. 5ws1h says:

It’s not Vincent, phew! “Vincent might know who Jacob is and he is the only character guaranteed to make it to the end of Lost” – Carlton Cuse. (Official Lost Podcast transcript/February 5th, 2009):)

  11. Roger Workman says:

I hope its Ben, his Character has gotten stale. I would also consider one of the noobs like Miles or Dan. Juliette is also a possibility.

I’m pretty sure Sawyer, Hurley & Jack are safe.

  12. Charlie's Ghost says:

Here’s the list, and supposedly, its definitely one of these….
    http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com/2009/03/one-of-these-will-die-updated.html

  13. Ben says:

Am I the only one who thinks it’s Jin?

I mean, he’s the next one on the DUI list. First Libby, then Ana Lucia…

    • clueless1der says:

Hm, but since he came back onto the show after being blown up- I thought that was resolved.

    • Colin says:

I definitely think it’s Jin too. Yes, we thought he was blown up on the boat but the island probably still needs him for something else – bringing sun back? once that happens he’ll be free to go. Think of the dramatic irony, Sun comes back to the island because Jin is alive, only to have Jin die once she gets there. That’s the making of some good TV!

      • dbarrus says:

I agree with you, just like Michael. The island still needs him for something else. Then he’s free to go :(

        • professorstotch says:

But Michael didn’t die. So it’s not just like Michael. If I really have to deal with the whole Jin dying thing again, two seasons in a row, then I’ll actually be upset.

  14. Bezmina says:

Please please not Sawyer. I think Miles is must expendable he isn’t really doing much is he lately.I reckon it will be Jin or Dan though.

  15. graham says:

Shit! I shouldn’t have read this (blame this mini-hiatus). For the description I would say that it was Sayid. But, he’s not on the list.
Too bad to see Ben and Sawyer there. I hope it’s not one of them (for me Ben, Locke and Sawyer are untouchable), but I don’t want to see Daniel, Miles or Jin dying neither.
Whoever is it’ll piss me off!
    Why not Kate or Jack???:(((

  16. docarzt says:

I do not know the answer, but all signs point to Sawyer.

    • graham says:

Oh, man, don’t tell me that!
Do you know anything else or are you guessing (with just Kristin’s clues)???

    • monkeyface says:

      signs….what signs?

this is going to drive me to drink…more.

    • rock rocks says:

I’ll echo that. What signs? What are seeing that I’m not?

I like all of the characters except Jack, whom I can barely tolerate on my screen. If you take Sawyer off the other side of the teeter-totter, I’d skip the rest. At this point, I’m the only person I know left watching it anyhow.

    • Paula Ramone says:

Doc, you’re smokin’ too much of the bad crack. What signs? The same ones that are trotted out every year? The same old excuses and fake info posts that get circulated at least twice a season with just a date change? Come on, now. Sawyer ain’t goin’ nowhere.

    • momma says:

      Whats up Doc?

All signs point to Ben just as equally.

  17. spinflip says:

I have a feeling that the love quadrangle will be resolved by (heroically) killing off one or two characters involved, but I don’t think it will happen until season 6, imho it’s a major story line to be kept until the end.
I think that Ben, Locke, Jack, Kate and Sawyer belong to the hard core of the characters and the fans would start not just a revolt, but a revolution if one of them was to die permanently. They gave us a little scare there with Locke, but now he’s back swinging, so…

  18. Kill one of the newer characters! says:

Jin is the only one from the original characters that I wouldn’t mind to see dying.

And bring back Nikki. In a bikini.

  19. Charlie's Ghost says:

Yeah, I think we could use some deductive reasoning combined with knowledge of past, present, and relative future story lines in at least narrowing it down. Keep in mind that the character death in question is coming towards the end of the season, right? Also keep in mind that something was printed where Darlton said that this character’s death is much like the moment Han Solo was frozen. Everyone thought he was killed, done, out for the count. But…

Miles – His story hasn’t been told yet, so even though he might be the most expendable at this point, I’d say the chances are slim.

Ben – I’d say its possible, since he’s fallen out of favor with Jacob, but Jacob didn’t tell Ben to leave the island; he left on his own and for his own agenda. So for all intensive purposes, Ben is still welcomed on the island. His importance to everything going will probably keep him in play till the end. Plus, he’s being labeled as one of the best tv villains of all time, so why knock him off?

Daniel – Since this supposed death happens at the end of the season, is he needed beyond the purge (assuming the purge happens this season)? I’m guessing that he is still needed, as he is the resident time travel expert.

Jin – I think he hangs in there until at least next season. My reason? If they conveyed his death previously, but he was actually still alive…why would you kill him off after that? BUT, if he was meant to die in the blast and avoided it somehow, we know that course correction will take him out eventually. I think he and Sun become more involved as time goes on, vs getting killed off.

    And that leaves..
Sawyer – His story has been told. Jack/Kate and Juliette/Sawyer is too perfect to keep going into next season. Something has to happen to those two relationships. Nothing is perfect on Lost. Sawyer is well involved in Dharma, being the head of security. Its a very visible position within the DI. We can only assume the season finale will involve the purge, the Losties in DI avoiding the purge, and time correcting somehow so that Ben, Sun, and Locke are in the same time as Jack and crew. Who would most likely be killed under all these assumptions? Who would be most willing to try and change history to save people he cares about? Who is a part of the DI and probably willing to risk it all to save the new life he found in the 70′s? I think Sawyer is the answer, unfortunately.

    • Victoria says:

Does anyone REALLY think that if it were Sawyer that Damon and Carlton would let him find out in the manner in which this person is alleged to find out?

Killing Sawyer is a BIG decision, one they would likely tell him before the week the script went into production. Everyone that has been killed off that’s major like Shannon, Boone, and Michael and Charlie have all talked about getting “the call” from Damon and Carlton. And then when they get around to killing Sawyer, they let him find out from a production script? I seriously doubt that.

    • Dan says:

Great post. I agree, but I think that Faraday’s death is another possibility. If he dies, Hawking can step in to finish his story and fill his role. Also, it’s an interesting proposition if she knows of her own son’s death but won’t try to change it because she knows she can’t.

      • Charlie's Ghost says:

Good point Dan. I do agree with Victoia as well, in that Darlton wouldn’t kill off Sawyer without telling him. BUT, what that same person went on to say, i believe, is that Sawyer’s death would be like Han Solo when he was frozen. The audience thought that Han’s story ended there…but in fact it didn’t. It seems, if this guy’s story is true, that Sawyer might be killed off, but in fact won’t be dead and will come back. Who knows. Sounds confusing, but interesting to ponder at the same time.

  20. Adam says:

Think about this… Sawyer’s been wearing a red shirt pretty much the whole season (pre-Dharma). A some of the people that died in the beginning of S5 were wearing them as well. Its probably nothing but you never know. They did say it would be the year for Sawyer. I as much as it moves the story along I hate it when they kill off characters (except McKail or however you spell it, never a big fan of his character but like where he fits in the mythology). It happens I guess.

  21. flashmurphy says:

Its PENNY! I promise. We have basically already seen it happen.

    • I agree. Already happened.

Could be John as well. I never though he would resurrect.

But none are on the list. (Still bet Penny got her ticket punched, though.)

      So who’d be “pissed”?

Well, sort of in character for Miles. But his death is probably a foregone conclusion.

Ben is THE Villain – can’t kill him off this early. But he came in during Season 2, so it would fit a pattern if he did go out in 5.

Jin – yeah, I can picture him upset, but he’s so cool and laid back in person.

      Dunno.

      It’s a mystery. Probably not for long…

  22. Thor says:

If it’s not Sawyer, I would go for Miles. But I had hoped that Miles would somehow ‘detect’ the grave of Magnus Hanso somewhere near the Black Rock! That would be awesome.. But I would miss Sawyer..

  23. Bookhouse Boy says:

I think it’s Sayid. What they really need to do is kill the love triangle thing with Kate, Jack and Sawyer. I’d take Juliet over Kate anyday. Juliet’s a more interesting character than Kate, at this point.

  24. penny says:

    dear writers and producers,

    don`t kill sawyer. ever.

    sincerely,
    penny

  25. The Magician says:

Anyone saying they’ll never watch the show again if their favourite character is killed off, was never really a fan of the show to begin with.

    • dolce says:

I agree. But at this point, after all the o6 crap, and the island needing them for whatever purpose, that it would be inconsistent with everything we have seen so far. Why so important that all of the core characters remain on/return to the island just for one of them to die? My thought ( or hope ) is that it would not be one of the original characters that we have all grown attatched to over the past 5 years. Jack/Kate/Locke/Jin/Sun/Hurley/Sayid/Sawyer/ (Rose and Bernard?) and Desmond. What would be the point? Why place so much importance on them all having to be there if one of them gets killed off? Seems like a waste of time to me unless the death has a well executed purpose? That would piss too many people off, I would think. It seems to methat all of the survivors that are left are meant to get to the end. I dunno. Too many thoughts to process. Could go on, but my nose is starting to bleed…

    • Jennifer says:

I disagree. There are people who watch shows because they enjoy the character interactions more than the mysteries or the plot points. I am one of those people. And Sawyer as portrayed by Josh Holloway has been one of the most consistently interesting and fun to watch characters on the show. To bring the “Han Solo” reference back in, it’d be like if they killed Han Solo in “Empire” and didn’t resurrect him for Jedi. Who’s going to hang out with the Ewoks and get together with Leia? Sawyer adds more comedy these days than Hurley, more leadership than Jack, more romantic interest than anyone, and he’s pretty much the action hero at this point. Other people could take over some of these roles, maybe, but there would be a huge hole in the show if Sawyer were to leave.

I think Sawyer is one of the most important characters on the show, alongside Locke and Ben. Without these characters the whole just doesn’t come together and certain characters just aren’t balanced anymore. (Kate and Jack are both grating without Sawyer around.) If they kill off Sawyer there will be a lot of people who choose not to watch anymore, and I bet there will be more people who simply find themselves less interested in the show because it seems “off” without the right character mix.

  26. Dr violence says:

It makes me laugh when people say they will stop watching if there fave character dies…thats pathetic and most people who say that are lieing.GROW UP!
Anyway i think its sayid cos he’s removed from the main cast in a few episodes time. hmmmm

    • professorstotch says:

Hm, so I guess you didn’t read the above posts? Sayid isn’t on the death list. It’s either Ben, Jin, Miles, Daniel, or Sawyer.

    • MoniquE says:

I’m not lying. I’m all grown up. And I’ve been up to this point a “true fan”.

I would absolutely drop Lost in a heartbeat if Sawyer were killed off. In a heatbeat with no looking back. Easiest decision I’d ever make.

      • Charlie's Ghost says:

so you watch the show just for sawyer and not the actual storyline?

        • MoniquE says:

No, I watch for the whole storyline but without Sawyer it’s not worth it. I’d be too angry at the writers and producers to enjoy it. And to think I’d still have to keep seeing JACK (!) and have his insipid storyline continue, with Sawyer gone. Just couldn’t do it. There’d be no fun to it.

          • The Magician says:

My girlfriend would probably kill me for saying this, but I’d prefer Sawyer to die, rather than Jack. Sawyer’s character doesn’t have anywhere near the same gravitas as Jack does, and beyond the nicknames and joking, he’s actually quite one dimensional. A great character, but not a hugely integral one.

I think your love is with Josh Holloway, and not LOST.

          • MoniquE says:

That’s a pretty typically male perspective Magician. For me, Jack is an insipid a-hole. He has no depth. He’s like a little entitled prince who stands around with his hands in his pockets, caring about no one, doing very little, while he waits for the story to hand him his destiny on a silver platter.

Meanwhile Sawyer is a character with real heart, real depth and beleivable humanity, who has truly earned the audience’s affections.

I don’t love Josh Holloway. I love the kind of Lost that Sawyer created – one with real feeling. I loathe Jack (only Jack among all the characters) so having to watch him, after losing the heart and soul of the show, would be unthinkable. It wouldn’t require even a moment’s thought for me. If Sawyer dies, Lost is over for me and they can take all their fancy fanboy “mysteries” and stick them where the sun don’t shine.

          • MAC says:

Hey, ok – I have NO idea who is going to die. I’m more of a go-with-the-flow, enjoy the story as it unfolds and trust the writers to end this fantastic story the way it is supposed to (which would mean however they ORIGINALLY intended it to end, not how fans want it to end). That being said, I would just like to say that it is not a “typically male perspective” Magician wrote about Jack! I love this development, his letting go of everything he believes in and finally letting destiny take over. Anyways, if you like Sawyers character so much, like the fact that as a leader, he believes in thinking things out – then you should like the fact that Jack is finally doing that. Oh well, I hope both survive – I think they would balance each other out perfectly. So, my hope it’s some one else.

  27. MoniquE says:

If Sawyer was killed, I would definitely quit watching Lost. In a heartbeat. And I’ve never missed an episode since the pilot. But that would be a bridge too far. Lost with no Sawyer is like pizza with no cheese. And no sauce. There’s no heart without Sawyer. I could care less about the mysteries if Sawyer’s not involved. It would be the easiest thing in the world to quit Lost and never look back. In fact, with this story about them not even TELLING the actor, if that was Josh Holloway, after all he’s given this show, I would make it a point to never watch another Lindelof or Cuse project. It’s shameful.

    • The Magician says:

It’s not a ‘male’ perspective, it’s the perspective of a writer; if anything, your perspective is typically female. I know how dramatic devices work. There has been far, far too much investment in Jack for him to be killed off before the end of season 6. And the fact that the writers have given Matthew Fox some idea of how LOST will end is proof that they regard his role as being crucial.

The island is totally indifferent to Sawyer. Yes, he has a lot of heart (depth is questionable) and humour and humanity, but that doesn’t mean he is exempt from death; don’t be so ridiculous.

Jack has no depth? That sort of idiotic comment proves to me that perhaps this really isn’t the show for you. Then again, it’s obvious you don’t watch LOST for the story or the drama, but simply because you have a crush on one of the actors.

      • graham says:

From my very own perspective , this is a never ending discussion.
We are all free to like a show for whatever reason, and none of them is better than the other.
        Art is subjective.

      • penny says:

very categoric of you magician to say that monique´s comment is idiotic. first of all, we are here because we love Lost, so for all of us this is like group therapy.
i´m female also, and denying sawyer`s charm would be silly. so, like many others, i admit sawyer is the hottest character of lost. BUT, that doesn´t mean we cannot make any other comments about the show. if the producers and writers decide to kill Sawyer, I THINK IT WOULD BE A DISSAPOINTING DECISION. he`s been important to the hole Lost plot, more over the last few episodes. he`s proved he´s the real hero of the show, and as usual, heroes have lots of fans. and that has nothing to do with josh holloway´s looks.
i´m a huge sawyer fan, he´s my fav character, so i hope he doesn´t get killed. anyway, if he has to go, i would rather think it´s for a greater good, like the old jump-off-the-helicopter-for-kate but this time he would be getting killed.

killing locke for ever was absurd, i think the same of sawyer. he has earned his place on the island.

        • The Magician says:

Read my reply again; I referred to her claim that Jack had ‘no depth’ as being idiotic, nothing else, and I fully stand by what I said. We’ve watched Jack slowly disintegrate from hero to wreck over the course of 5 seasons and now we’re in the process of watching his redemption; it is a slow, gradual redemption, but this isn’t like your dreary, hyperactive soap-opera aimed at a demographic of witless sybarites; It is something far more special.

Monique hates Jack with a passion, as many of us do, but that is precisely the way the character has been written and it is a testament to Matthew Fox’s acting ability. I agree it would be a shame to lose Sawyer as he is a great addition to the show, but come on; great characters with good hearts die all the time in art. Like I said; he is charming and likeable but this doesn’t mean he exempt from death.

I agree that art is subjective Graham, but I’ve not debated this; the crux of my argument was that if you stop watching a show simply because your favourite character has been written out of it, then you were never really a fan of the show or the story, to begin with. And apart from a select few, this is what the majority of people are saying anyway.

          • graham says:

And again, I disagree with you. I think that a 97% of the show are the characters, otherwise, after 5 years, I’ll had given up on Lost a long time ago, because we all have our least favourite seasons and we all think that some story-lines or episodes were lame or stupid (for example, for me, the lie of the O6 never made sense).
The story hasn’t always been great, so what made me keep watching the show were some specific characters (those who are and act more like myself, or those whose development was more realistic, compelling and interesting)and the emotional investment with them.
For example, I’m a big fan of football, and the biggest competition is the FIFA World Cup, but once my country is eliminated,I simply don’t care about the rest of the game.

  28. Dr violence says:

Where has this list come from thou? you cant go by that unless its from the writers, only reason i say sayid is because of how he is listed in future episodes.
Also Nikki is coming back in a few episodes time.

    • Charlie's Ghost says:

Nikki’s return was just a rumor / incorrect IMDB post.

    • professorstotch says:

How is Sayid listed as on the future episodes again? As the main character that he is? Reading the full press release for episode 5.10, it still has him as a main character. 5.11 has been released, but the full cast isn’t listed. OMGZ does that mean NO ONE is a main character anymore?!

EVERYONE ON LOST IS GOING TO DIE!!!!!!

  29. [...] hunter Kristin over at E! has just given us a BIG piece of info on another previously poster spoiler! Don in Dallas: Kristin, are they killing off Sawyer on [...]

  30. clueless1der says:

Wow, I never dreamed this post would spark such spirited debate!

I think the beauty of Lost is that the show isn’t about any one character. Sure, some character’s story lines feature more heavily- but it’s called LOST not JACK or SAWYER or VINCENT.

It’s great that people get so invested in a character, but for me I would watch the show even if they killed of…. (I can’t believe I’m saying this) Ben. Yes, I would need extensive therapy and might write a very stern email to Darlton, but I wouldn’t be able to keep away. I would keep wondering why he died, and was that part of a bigger story… that is what would keep me tuning in.

    But that’s just me. :D
