What an interesting spoiler. Alternate time-lines? Flash-betweens? This has been speculated, of course, but to pretty much have it confirmed is exciting. Personally, I’m not a big fan of spoilers, especially during the season, but looking at these don’t ruin much; they seem more to whet the appetite for the beginning of the season. I can’t wait!
This confirms what I have been thinking: everything that rises must converge. What Jacob appears to be doing is attempting to bring together all the parts, body and mind, from the multiple imaginary time lines and meld them into one cohesive existence that will then be brought back to the island for whatever purpose he has for them.
He is hoping to accomplish this by using the islands ability to exist in these various states of real and imaginary time.
One interesting side note: what happens when Aaron is born in the imaginary time line where the ocean 815 lands safely at LAX. Is he even named Aaron, and could we have already seen him as Jacob. Two Aarons/Jacobs= Man in Black and Jacob. A slim possibility but there is a chance.
That does seem to be where they’re going. It does make a complete hash of the “Whatever Happened, Happened” mandate. In doing so, it solves the problem of Desmond’s predictions about Claire not exactly panning out, the problem of whether Jack & co were “always” members of Dharma in the ’70s, as well as provide us the possibility of a reality where John Locke can still redeem himself. But I’m left with Hurley’s question from this summer’s Comicon: If the history of the first 5 seasons was just one possibility, a possibility that could simply be re-written by Jacob, well, wouldn’t that kind of…suck?
And so, Roland sets out to catch the Man in Black once again
