I think how this law would be correctly used in time travel is as follows:

1. Person A is in December 28, 2009 1:51pm PST at 23 degrees North and 8 degrees West.

2. At that instant, Person A time travels back in time to December 27, 2009, 1:51pm PST at 23 degrees North and 8 degrees West.

Where does the air that exists at time December 27, 2009, 1:50:59pm PST at 23 degrees North and 8 degrees West go when Person A comes 1 second later?

And where does the air that fills Person A's previous place come from at December 28, 2009, 1:51:01pm?

You claim that this Law of Physics has "no bearing in time travel", but I think the laws of physics should be considered. However, if we are going to consider all the laws of physics, than really time travel has no bearing.

John Lithgow on this. Season 5 for LOST wasn't as much character driven as past seasons, more island history driven. I like that season 6 will be focus more on the characters and their destiny. Hopefully awards next year.

As for Dexter, I wish John Lithgow survived the season and was off the grid because the FBI and police are looking for him.

How great would it be if he just drove off and Dexter found Debra like that after searching for Arthur all night and that's how it ended. They don't always have to kill the main bad guy after every season. It's good to have a Joker for every Batman. A reoccurring villain.

Can I point out that Benthams body is not at Oxford! It's at University College London (UCL) as he was the founder of the place (I should know, I went there)!! It was the first University to open outside of Oxford and Cambridge.

I remember that podcast where Damon said the writers spent an incredible amount of time discussing the watch. In the end, they elected to go with a watch that has no beginning / no end, just endless looping in time. An ontological paradox, as mentioned just above. So will this be important to the Lost endgame, in paricular the Jughead aftermath? Just as the watch really had no origin before Richard gave it to Locke, so too Oceanic 815 couldn't have crashed unless Jughead went off, but Jughead couldn't have gone off unless 815 crashed (and the Oceanic 6 subsequently went back in time). In either case, it is a paradox, and the writers' creativity in solving the paradox will determine in my mind the success of Season 6.

The same can be said about Lost. The only credible theories about time travel comes from physicists, not movies or television shows.

This always bugged me. The good news is if someone's time travel argument is based on information they gleaned from watching a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie, it's safe to assume you can just ignore them.

It's funny, during the season, people were predicting Miles would touch his baby self and blow up. Now, I've heard that time travel meme before, but I've never been sure where it comes from, because I['ve never actually seen it play out in a movie. Back to the Future alludes to it, but it proves false. Apparently, it comes from Time Cop and, possibly, an episode of Doctor Who.

Two objects Cannot Occupy the Same Space At the Same Time.

People misunderstand the real meaning of this law. All this law states is when an object is occuping an amount of space another object cannot be there. It's actually a pretty simple concept. If you fill a bathtub to the brim with water... when you get in it that tub the water cannot occupy that space with you so the water will rise and overflow out of the tub as you put more of your body in it. Same with walking down the street. The street is filled with air as you walk through, you push that air out of the way and that air fills in the space behind you that you were occuping.

It really has no bearing in time travel. Time Cop was the first movie I saw that totally misrepresented this Law of Physics. It's not like if I go back in time and if the sneakers I'm wearing came into contact with those same sneakers in the past they will blow up or disappear from existence.

believe me, you are preaching to the choir. Ask anyone.
Better yet, see for yourself:
http://www.docarzt.com/lost/lost-news/ropes-and-compasses/
http://www.docarzt.com/lost/lost-news/lost-self-consistent-time-travel-part-ii-season-5-is-paradox-free/
What you outlined is how it should work, but unfortunately it is the stated intent of TPTB that the compass sprang from nowhere. Despite the nonsense this entails. Damon stated as much in a podcast.

It isn't said by anyone, but when Jin and Rousseau's team showed up in "This Place is Death" (I think) the voice saying the numbers on a loop sounds A LOT like Hurley. I hope we get to Hurley record that message this season, precipitating the very curse is life is based around.

imfromthepast: the compass did not spring from nothing. Just like Sawyer, the compass looped on itself. Here is the linear timline:

1. Sometime before the adult Lock showed up in the 50s, Richard acquired the Compass from somewhere (we don't care where).

2. In 1954, Lock shows up on the Island (appearing from nowhere) and gives Richard another Compass that is the exact same as the Compass, only appearing 40 years older (from wear and tear!). Then Lock disappears.

3. Richard keeps the two Compasses with him.

4. Richard (in 2007) walks up to injured Lock (who has been time skipping but has not visited 1954 yet) and gives him the Compass that Richard had in 1954 before Lock showed up, which is now 40 years old (while keeping the Compass that Lock gave him, that is, because of the time looping, 80 years old). Lock disappears.

5. Richard keeps the 80 year old Compass with him and we don't know what happens next.

6. Adult lock shows up in 1954 and go back to 3 above

My Apologies. I over reacted. Maybe I should follow the excellent advice from the MST3K theme song and repeat to myself "It's just a show, I should really just relax."

Wait, what do you mean it was Hurley's voice that drew Rousseau's expedition to the island?

Much like Locke's pocket watch, the universe as we know it seems to have had no beginning or end. It just always has been and always will be. And if you believe a god of some sort created the universe, then where did he or she come from? Seeing that there's such a mindbending notion at the core of our existence, I can accept Locke's pocket watch as being a smaller example of the same phenomenon.

I feel like fandom keeps running into this wall in its time travel discussions. Many people can't get past the idea that there's two of one person in one timeframe, like that fact alone would cause the universe to explode. (There was even an early Star Trek episode that made this mistake.) Sometimes I wonder if I'm not understanding something correctly, but I don't think so. I think it makes perfect sense within the story device of time travel.

We're not talking about two exact copies of one person trying to occupy the same exact space at the same exact time. We're talking about a person visiting one location and time at different points along their PERSONAL timeline. From that person's perspective, their experiences are still linear. In this case, one Sawyer was a few months older, and in a different location on the Island than his slightly younger self. There's not even a paradox, since they never encountered one another and did something to induce a paradox, like older Sawyer killing his younger self.

imfromthepast: Where did I say I had a problem with it? I'm drawing attention to the logical incompatibility, which is a feature the story has in common with recursive loops.
