Maybe Walt just wasn't that important to the story they wanted to tell? I maintain that Walt's story is effectively over, and I won't be sad if we never see him again.

I've read that David Fury interview, and it gives me the impression that he conceived of Lost as a hodgepodge of The Shining, various zombie movies, and various apocalyptic disease movies. I for one am glad all that stuff turned out to be red herrings, because it would've been awfully derivative.

On a more serious note, the description of father issues, particularly how they have played out for Jack, was profound. It all the more heightens anticipation of the longed-for redemptive arc I pondered after your previous recap:

In addition to the whole recap with rich connections of themes, I absolutely loved your artistic "portrait" of Rousseau! Beautifully done!

Hmmm. We've seen Jacob intervening off-island, maybe Malkin was similarly swayed by a visit from Jacob (or from his counterpart, the Man in Black). Was getting Aaron to the island a necessary part of the MIB's Loophole? We know the last time we saw maybe-dead Claire, she was with un-dead Christian in the cabin, and she told Locke that Aaron was "fine" and "right where he was supposed to be." Conventional wisdom has it that Christian = MIB, so that would seem to imply that Malkin was also acting on behalf of the MIB, setting this whole chain of events in motion.

1. the painting was a production error. all the paintings on the show (desmond's hatch painting, the paintings in widmore's office, claire's boyfriend's painting) look alike because they were all painted by director jack bender. we weren't meant to make any connections between them.

2. IT WAS A DREAM! how in the world could the show every EXPLAIN A DREAM? it was a weird dream. it showed she had anxiety about losing the baby because she had tried to get rid of it. it was a dream. it was a dream!!!! no explanation needed. she fell asleep and saw stuff in er head. if you thought it as an omen, well, thats on you.

Beginning to get tired of the blatant Jack ripping in all of these posts, and I can't believe no one else brings it up. They take away from what is otherwise an entertaining read. I get it; you don't like Jack. I don't know if you're a jaded skater, or just flat out don't like the character, but it's pretty sophomoric when you can't even mention him without talking him down.

I always thought the "raised by an other" was damn clever and dripped with hidden meaning. Sometimes the titles are cryptic - sometimes not so much.

I've always wondered about the WALT aging issue, and even posted it to Cuse and Lindeloff once or twice: If they really did know what direction they were taking the story, then wouldn't they have filmed some scenes with WALT during seasons ONE and TWO, to be used later in the series?
