My brain hurts… “You look just like her.” Because she WAS her. I think Little Ben is going to get to know Juliet well in the 1970′s and then miss her when she’s gone. Maybe she’ll be a mother figure to him? When he meets her again 30 years later he’ll want her because she reminds him of the woman he knew in the 70s.

Unless Horace and son are somehow “time” experimented on at the orchid station. . .or involved in some kind of incident –
Remember when Locke met Horace chopping the tree down – he was.stuck in some kind of time loop and had a bloody nose. . .and Horace is the architect or builder of what eventually become Jacob’s cabin. . .

Nice review Fish – the kind that Lostheads love to read because you provide us with as many “a-hah” moments as the show!

The baby was not named once, and it just seemed too obvious that there was a specific reason for this. I’ve tried to equate his age to people we know and no one makes sense. Making this baby who was both concieved and born on the island Jacob would make sense…

The baby could very easily be Jacob. Richard knowing the name in 1954 doesn’t get in the way of that in the slightest, as we’ve already seen that Jacob’s cabin vanishes and reappears. Where does it go when it vanishes? Back in time, perhaps? So even though Jacob was born in 1977, he could very well have met Richard long before 1954, and the Others have been awaiting his arrival ever since–just as they’ve been awaiting the arrival of Flight 316, which is why they built the runway.

whenever locke flashed down the tunnel, the hole from which he fell from wasn’t there. It looked like a strange, isolated pocket of space where there was just a wheel. I hate to think it just exists, but man, I don’t know how else it could exist in that kind of situation.

For some reason, I was struck by the ‘shopped picture of James and Juliet being “satisfied with their Dharma lives.” The angle, the black and whiteness… whatever, but I did a double take and at first thought it was Penny. So this reminded me of Harper’s conversation with Juliet explaining why Ben was being so nice to her. “Because you look just like her.” Since Widmore said he was the Others’ leader for 30 years, unless his lying liar pants are fire, Penny may have an older connection to the Island than we know. Penny’s mom may have taken a sub off the Island to give birth like Amy was intended to do. But this just struck me as part of story we don’t know at all yet.

Second, Amy and Horace’s baby can not be Jacob. When Locke went into the Others’ camp in ‘54 he told Alpert that Jacob sent him and Alpert obviously knew what he was talking about.

Mr. Bump is correct: the ancient dwellers of the island circa the time of the statue could not have built the donkey wheel. The donkey wheel was there when Lock fell into the well.

Timeline is as follows:

1- Lock starts going down the well. Well exists and open. No statue.

FLASH

2- Lock falls into the well. Donkey wheel exists. On surface, rope is in Sawyer’s hand and leads to ground. Surface team look behind them and there is a statue. While surface team is in a awe of the statue, Lock talks to Christian and then turns the donkey wheel.

FLASH that feels like earthquake

3-Surface team is in 1974. Well is buried. Lock leaps out of the island to Tunisia 2008.

So, at the time of the statue, the donkey wheel existed. It is therefore obvious that a more ancient people built the wheel. But the question remains: how did he/she/they/it get there to build it, through a tunnel leading from another location?

That’s how I took it also. I think it will be a catastrophe if someone actually meets their own self at some other point in time. And Fish is right we never have seen it. When Locke and Sawyer were on the island at the same time, they never met. I think that’s where the catastrophe would happen. Maybe that’s what “the incident” was.
