I and my pals were viewing the great helpful tips located on your web blog and then unexpectedly developed a terrible suspicion I never expressed respect to the web site owner for those tips. This whole theory smacks of the “it was all just a dream” type storyline, which both showrunners have repeatedly said they wouldn’t do. To quote Damon Lindoff from a interview he had during Season 4, he said the following:

“The one thing that Carlton and I are steadfast on saying over and over again, and that we’re not lying about is that the show is not all a dream. It’s happening in the real world, there are real stakes, you’re not going to get to the end and cut to black and suddenly realize that this was all sort of a fantasy. That’s the only thing that we sort of need to get out there in the world, because it does diffuse a lot of wacky theories.”

It’s almost like the FS/Alt is real life. If the Island was sunk in the 70s then today in the Aughts life would be free of it’s voodoo. And it would be a lot more boring what without time travel and smoke monsters.

I proposed the same theory a few weeks ago, as it is the only one that maintains the temporal consistency of each timeline without paradoxes. Indeed, each timeline would have to be separate — parallel universes if you will — where in “our” timeline, Miles’ observation holds true that rather than changing things, the use of Jughead always happened, neutralizing Radzinsky’s drilling into the pocket of energy, while flashing the Losties back to the Ajira Airways time of Ben, Sun, Frank, et al. Indeed, Sayid’s observation in Season 2, that the Swan was built over a pile of concrete reminiscent of Chernobyl seems to indicate that there was an atomic detonation at the site that needed to be capped. That Desmond’s turning of the failsafe acted similarly to Jughead also points to this.

The “alt” timeline would not only lack the impacts of the time traveling Losties before 1977, but would also lack any of Jacob’s interference which may have been more pervasive than what we saw in the Incident. What the loss of the Island means though is still the key question.

It’s not just this blog. It’s just about every discussion on LOST. I think the more reasonable voices have been drowned by belligerent idiots, shippers, and “theory” quacks.

It’s great that people use this as a creative exercise; but when the expectations of the story are undermined because it doesn’t match the story they have created in their head, I don’t really care to hear their criticism– especially when they aren’t even straight in what is happening in the show proper.

You can easily go through the comments for this section and see the majority are by people who are upset because they simply misunderstand what is happening.

Still, these people are still not as bad as the top three worst reviewers.

I think there are going to be a huge number of unanswered questions. Probably not as many as most shows, because lost fans are a little bit, ah, how can I put this politely…

Well, never mind how to put it, yes, I think there are going to be plenty of annoying ends that are not going to be tied up neat and tight. I guess that would be like real life.

Its always possible they will make a book out of the series, if they think it will sell. I think that was done for another show.

I don’t think the ALT timeline would be shown if it wasn’t important though.

It was always existed. If you bother to pursue this question, you have to ask how the other universe started. It’s not a productive question and it’s not relevant at all.

The sideways reality isn’t an “altered reality.” It’s a parallel universe.

perhaps I didn’t explain myself well enough for you. All I am saying is the episode established that ben and Roger were on the Island and then left. We also know that Alex and Danielle are alive and well living in LA.
Taking these two facts as a jumping off point I am merely suggesting that perhaps the sequence of events that make up the collective perceived history of the storyline known as the Flashsideways (or the “Alt”) are depicting what would have happened in 1977 without the interference of the time travelers.
This is meant as a counter point argument to the prevalent theory that the two timelines are differentiated merely by whether or not Jughead went off.

Hopefully I helped cleared that up a little for you. Now if you will be so kind as to present your arguments against mine, we can begin a civilized discussion and perhaps together we can discover the truth.

Unless you’re just all talk, in which case, simply don’t comment and we’ll all know it.

Anyone else feel like the “Alt” timeline or whatever you want to call it is taking away precious storytime that could be used to explain the island and its history? That, or there will be a glut of info packed into the last few episodes. I’m starting to worry about answers, as in, not enough. I thought introducing MIB so late in the game brought it’s own challenges as well. Guess we’ll see.
