Hey, just wanted to say I really enjoyed your blog entry. Didn’t feel compelled to say anything until I saw some of the negative jerks on here. Don’t think I’d want to meet any of them in person!

Yes. Did something change and we missed it? It’s likely the bandage slipped around during filming and no one caught onto it.

But really odd to see the blood on Ben’s side and not his chest.

For those who care, psychology was my minor, and here’s what I think may happen: Ben gets healed, much like our French team, and while they do have the same memories prior to their meeting in the temple, the event changes them. The trauma involved in the shooting/healing make Ben’s memory falter. He will have vague memories of the shooting, maybe even the his whole childhood around that time. Because of this Ben has an attachment to “her”, who is Juilet. The person who works so hard to save him. His memories of the others (our new O6) go by the wayside because they have no impact on his life (Do you remember who cooked your food, or the school security you might have had in elementary school?).

Sayid is forgotten during this period as well. Ben knows he was shot, but he can’t remember the whole circumstance. His brain takes what it can and creates a new reality of the situation. It’s possible Ben transfers his feelings about Sayid on to his father or some one else.

The Others do not spend too much time on Sayid, let Smokey get him is their deal. Does he have the code to get past the fence? Or does he make his way around the island in the old way?

At some point the awful truth that the 815′ers and Miles are time traveling will come out and my guess is that this trouble with Ben will out the truth somehow to Dr. Chang or Horace. Just a guess…

Great post! Yes, the SCRUNCHIE! That had to be addressed. Although, it was not long after she got off the boat and her days of tom boyish beach/jungle living were over for the time being (since in that scene, she pulled a still baby Aaron out of his carseat.) At least later on we know she used some of that settlement money to buy heels, skirts and an overall nicer wardrobe.

Yep. I was hoping, “He won’t remember this” referred to Ben not remembering the fact that Richard took him to the temple to heal him. He may very well remember being shot, but not much after that.

I also want to think that Ben always has a plan so I was surprised to see the look of shock on Ben’s face when Locke welcomed him to the land of the living.

“He won’t remember” likely refers specifically to the shooting. Ben still has many years with the Dharma Initiative, and will probably see all of the future-ites again. And will likely remember everything up until the shooting.

It’s kind of good that young Ben won’t remember getting shot. It means that his change wasn’t caused by that event, but by something even deeper – whatever happened in the temple. And Sayid is still to blame for that change.

And there’s plenty of time between 1997 and 2004 for Ben to find out about the shooting. He’s not the kind of man who lets himself be kept in the dark for too long.

I think Pat is absolutely right. Ben won’t remember any of THIS. Going into the temple etc. Of course he remembers his childhood, his lousy father, meeting sayid, etc. It was already established in “He’s our you” in an indirect way that Ben KNOWS Sayid is a killer. If he is to forget that Sayid shot him, that nearly invalidates that whole episode’s impact, no?

I’m not yet sure why they’d have Ben not remember any of it. It’d be SO much cooler if he recognized Sayid.

Whatever Happened, Happened, to me, means that Sawyer and KAte always took Ben to the others to get fixed.

Therefore, the memory wouldn’t just suddenly appear a la Desmond. It would have always been there. Except for that convenient “he won’t remember” thing Alpert said.

First of all, thank you… I truly appreciate your (and everyone else’s)kind words. It’s challenging to come to a new place where no-one knows your name or style this close the end of the penultimate season of a show that we are all mutually obsessed with. Thus, it’s extra cool when other fans ‘get’ your voice and POV.
Secondly, I SO agree with both of your points.
As hyperRevue also pointed out, Richard is pretty non-specific (imagine that!) regarding the memory loss/’change’ and its effects on Ben, so he may well remember the other 815-ers, but dear God, I so wanted him to remember Sayid shooting him and for the exact reason that you stated. I somehow need to believe that Ben was being truthful (just that once) when he told John Locke that he “always has a plan.” I am still hopeful that maybe in the end, Ben will vaguely remember the incident with Sayid (not to be confused with any other ‘incidents’, of course.)
It just seems like such a massive card for the producers NOT to play. I mean how many people would specifically go back to S2 and watch every single episode from “One of them” forward, simply to hyper-analyze every facial tic and utterance which falls from the mouth of Gale/Linus, knowing that he knew then what we know now…
Hot damn, I sure would.

I’d be interested to see if maybe present day Ben will wake up and remember all this, now that he’s made a full-loop back to the island…kinda like how Desmond remembers Faraday randomly.

I still think that Ben would have gone to the temple, just on his own accord and not because Sawyer & Kate brought him. Whatever Happened, Happened, right?
