Well, it seems that the Mrs. Hawking as Mrs. Faraday theory is gaining a monsoon of support, and we now know that Charles Widmore was on the island with a girl named Ellie and that Faraday’s rat was named Eloise (after his mommy?). Got that. So, the Lost community is abuzz with the theory that Faraday is the child of Widmore and “Ellie” Hawking.

The obvious deduction from this would be that Penny and Daniel are brother and sister. And this would be true. But I think Penny has a different mom.

Knowing the Star Wars fanatics that the Lost producers admit to being, I posit that Charlotte and Daniel are both the children – twins – of Hawking and Widmore.

We  have the clue from last season, via Miles, that Charlotte was born on the Island; that this is the “home” she has returned to.

Having ended up on different sides (does Widmore go “Other-rogue”?), and with her life dedicated to the Island, Hawking separated her children on different continents to keep them away from their father.

And, like in Star Wars, it’s the boy twin, Faraday, who finds his Daddy first.

Another symbolic clue is the declaration of love that Faraday gives in “Jughead”. Maybe there will not be an incestuous kiss as in Star Wars, but there is some pre finding out the truth we are brother and sister funny business.

I also think that being conceived, or born, on the Island is causing Charlotte’s nose bleeds and that this is not happening to Faraday because he has found his Constant (Desmond) and maybe because of the high levels of radiation he was previously exposed to.

Just a thought, but I think it works. What do you think?

*Oh – and don’t forget, e-mail me at lost@lostmythos.com with your best theory from “Jughead” and we’ll feature you on the next Lost Mythos Podcast and you will win a copy of Doc and hijinx awesome book “Lost Ate My Life.”

  1. Joe Johnson says:

Perhaps people who are born on the island can’t exist on the island in a time frame prior to their birth. THus Charlotte’s nosebleed.

    • Vide says:

But she is bleeding in the “present”, I mean, there were the flash and the camp disappeared, so they weren’t in the ’50s anymore.

    • professorstotch says:

This also doesn’t account for why Miles, Sawyer, Juliet, and Daniel aren’t bleeding.

  2. John Voigt says:

I just posted something similar in the promo pics section, at least as far as Daniel/Charlotte being brother/sister. The twin angle is interesting. This could explain also why Widmore knows where Mrs F is, and may even know she is working with Ben, but has not harmed her. Long lost love can soften any man’s heart.

  3. John Voigt says:

Not sure if that works Joe, we know Locke talked with Richard in 1954 and he wasn’t born until 1956.

  4. Righto says:

Charles Widmore and Elouis Hawking are brother and sister.
Upon re-watching I think that Charles Widmore and Eloise Hawking are brother and sister. When Charles Widmore comes running back into camp, he tells Richard “we were outnumbered but I escaped..” to which Ellie says “outnumbered eh?” and Charles Widmore responds “shut up Ellie.” The teasing Ellie gives to Charles and the ’shut up’ is something you do with siblings, not your girlfriend/wife. So yes, I think that Ellie is Elois Hawking, who might be Daniel Faraday’s mum, but I don’t think Hawking and Widmore ever produced children together. With this reasoning, Penny Widmore and Daniel Faraday might be cousins, and I have no idea who the parents of Charlotte are.

    • Alaine says:

I agree with your theory. When Widmore said “Shut up Ellie” it sounded very much like a brother and a sister interchange. This also explains why off island Charles Widmore would not kill Mrs. Hawking for helping Ben find the island again.

    • Mirko says:

      Absolutely!
“Charles Widmore and Elouis Hawking are brother and sister.”
That’s exactly what I thought when I saw that scene.

What I found interesting is that Mr Whidmore under these circumstances would come out to be Daniel’s uncle what leads me to the impression that Desmond’s journey to the island was destined as a fundamental step to a later family reunion (maybe here comes some more course correction into play) given the more and more important relationship between Des&Dan.

      Egads!

This is what I immediatley thought!!!

All week I have been reading this “hawking and widmore lovers” theory… and I’m like, really? Isn’t it obvious that they are brother and sister?

I really wanted to be the first one to post this, but alas, I will gladly join your camp… the right camp, imo…

  5. Dave Thompson says:

I always wondered how Faradey knew that the particular rat he was experimenting on in 1996 that he sent Desmond to see was the one called “Eloise”, since a lot must have died, Faraday seems to have memory problems… Faraday probably called all of his rats “Eloise” after his mom.

Do you think what pushed Ms. Hawkings to study time and space was Faraday’s comments about time-travel?

  6. Hipster Doofus says:

    Wooooooow.

I love the writers of this show. I really love the separated twins thing. Great theory. Well done.

  7. Hey Axel,

Nice theory! While I’ve never read it, I heard that in “Bad Twin,” Widmore supposedly had three kids, two of whom were twins. So, that would fit in with your theory–Penny and the twins Charlotte and Daniel. Not sure what their names were in the book b/c I don’t think it was cannon, but still interesting.

    • JOJO says:

Hi Marc, great tip, thanks. Did you read my comment? Would love to know what you think?
” I never heard that Widmore supposedly had 3 kids and 2 being twins. This has changed my mind about Charlotte being Daniel’s daughter. But it has made me think about the childhood of all the Oceanic 6. I think they were all only children (can someone confirm that) and we know at least John and possibly Sawyer were raised in foster homes (Sawyer, after his parents died). Is it possible that Sun, Kate, Hurley, Jack and Sayid were also all adopted? Could they all have been born to Others from the island and raised off the island by someone else? I could go on but would love to hear of someone else is starting to puzzle this together?

(BTW, are you doing a audio version of The Myth Of Lost?). I love your book!!

  8. Jangras says:

Mmmmh… Am I the only one who’s scared about Lost turning into ‘Guiding Light’ or ‘The Bold & The Beautiful?’ Please don’t… A is brother to B who is the father of C who is married to D who…Please don’t..

  10. VeryInformedAboutLost says:

wow…i never thought about the teasing thing between ellie and widmore on the island…that is something siblings do….not lovers…wow righto…spot on..

    • Annie says:

Not so sure about that. Remember Kate’s ’shut up James’ to Sawyer as she climbed out of her cage and went to his. In that same episode, they became lovers and remain connected romantically to this day.

  11. Brian says:

If indeed either Farraday/Charlotte and/or Widmore and Eloise are bro/sis, they would not be the first bro/sis combo we have seen since that was Boone/Shannon

  12. Steven says:

Uh…anyone forgetting people can’t be born on the island? Something about complications with the pregnancies and the mothers/babies all dying???

Nice theory, but unless Ellie was pregnant before she got to the island, she’d be dead and so would any offspring.

  13. Katy says:

What about Chang’s baby? It was very young, and he seemed very familiar with the island’s abilities and his DI script. I assumed that the baby had been born, on island, before the births began to be terminated. Maybe the event that caused this to happen occured after Chang and Ellie’s children were born? Or maybe Ellie just left the island before her time was up.
