Consequently, in the story of resurrecting Osiris, Isis put together 13 of the 14 parts of Osiris, but was unable to find the 14th, his penis, which was feed to a oxyrhynchus fish bt Set.(a fish with an unusual curved snout resembling depictions of Set).

There are fourteen original main characters.
There are thirteen main characters left excluding Anti-Locke.

Ana Lucia says that "they" took 12 of us from their camp which is a nod I think to the fact the myth sometimes notes 12 parts. The confusion in parts is because they are supposed to relate to the full moons in a year. There are sometimes 12 and sometimes 13 full moons in a year.

Jacob was seen eating a fish in his opening scene. (Looking for something?) Lou Pole declined to eat the fish not wanting to eat Jacob's wee-wee.

A few thoughts... If one goes back over all the seasons... we find so many references to games and to opposing sides (chess, backgammon, the b&W stone game pieces, computer game, us and them, fire and water, man of faith and man of science, etc.) Obviously, we have been given more clues than we knew as to what is really going on. It's all a game of two sides which have always been fighting.

So much of it is rooted in Egyptian myth besides all the obvious hieroglyphics. We have had the strong theme of missing body parts like the myth of Osiris being chopped to pieces by Set when out hunting (The hunting party is a show title) and buried about the land so that he would not be resurrected. (We have montaun's arm, the aussie's ladie's leg, John's kidney, Jack's appendix, missing fingers, eyes, you get it.) The hatches are like the buried pieces. The 815ers are also like these parts which need to be gathered together in order to resurrect Osiris.

We had been shown the False Door Dharma Station that Sayid found just like the false doors in Egyptian tombs for the Ba of a person (or their soul/double) to enter into the living world. Osiris was associated with agriculture and sowing of seeds was part of his festival. (John the farmer sowing kind seeds and betrayed by the young cop)(John learning to hunt and betrayed by his father) Locke is Osiris's double.

The start of this Osiris myth has him being deceived by his brother Set and the killed by being locked in a box. (Lockdown is a show title) (magic boxes, coffins, locke-in-a-box) His wife Isis brings him back to life copulates with him and conceived Horus. (Horace anyone?) He then dies again. She hides him. Set finds him again and chops him up.

Horus was told by his mother, Isis, to protect the people of Egypt from Set, the god of the desert (deserted island), storms and chaos. Horus can be be viewed as the protector of Ma'at; the Egyptian principle of worldly order (Horace the Ma'athematican. Math the ultimate worldly order.) Without Ma'at there would be only the primal chaos, ending the world. Ma'at is also the goddess which brings order to the world and is the daughter of Ra. (Richard Alpert) Ra is the sun god. And like the the sun, Richard seems like he's always been there.

Anyway, Horus and Set fight over who should rule and who should appoint the king of Egypt. Horus and Set challenged each other to a boat race even.(How Desmond got there) In one struggle Set had lost a testicle, explaining why the desert (island), which Set represented, is infertile. Eventually the other gods side with Horus.

If we watched carefully, we will find more subtle clues to look out for someone who is not what he seems, like 'he walks amongst us but he is not one of us" Jack's tatoo, mistaken identity of henry gale, Sawyer the con man, Yemi/Anti-Jacob, The young police man posing as hitchhiker, Kate hiding her identity, the others in costume, Michael/Kevin Johnson, Rousseau thinks Sayid is someone else. Even the lone lost shoe found by Hurley (imagined) and was it Kate or Lapidus (i forget) points to the foot statue to find answers.

It seems the island is locked in a cycle of this myth. They both want to rule. They can't live together and they don't want to die alone. And like the castaways they want out of this cycle.

I think Ilana represents Ma'at and will be revealed as Richie's kid. Aaron will be Jacob/Antijacob resurrection in S06. Locke is gone for good. We may see him in flashes though.

It's going to be a long 9 months.

I don't think anything will be reset, and this is why. The last time we saw Eloise, she was trying to help Jack change the future. This goes against her usual Philosophy though, doesn't it? If it had actually worked, she wouldn't be mourning her dead son Daniel and saying adamantly that you can't change the future. Her present did not change. That's not to say you can't change how the future happens. Whatever happened after the bomb went off probably sent the Oceanic six to another time, most likely 2007 on the Island. That's one possibility for the 'they're coming' line that Jacob said before he went up in Flames. He could have also been talking about Ilana revealing who Fakob is. I think Fakob hoped to get rid of her before that happened, but he was too late.
I really don't think Ben knew anything about his destiny. The ones that did, Richard and Charles Widmore, never once mentioned it to him or explained why he couldn't meet Jacob. It's really unfair, because Fakob sought him out when he was just a kid and pretended to be his Mother. He's got Ben manipulated into thinking he's really John Locke, when he's anything but. Jacob could have saved his own life by being a little more compassionate to Ben, especially since he was holding a knife. Maybe he wanted to be killed so he could become something more powerful in death. I think he'll rise again. He seems more like a Jesus figure to me than Locke, and is the most likely one to be reborn. I'm kind of glad that Locke stayed dead(for now at least) simply because I think this dinamic is more interesting. Locke died with his faith somewhat restored, so that's good enough for me. He's basically the Dumbledore of the series. Someone who seemed all knowing, but made a critical mistake by ignoring the facts that were leading up to his demise. Ben seems a little Snapey to me right now. He has to work for the dark side now when all he ever wanted was to be good. I'm sure he'll take the bullet for everyone next year once he figures it out.

I refuse to believe that Locke's destiny was to be just a pawn. He might have been to Jacob and the other guy but I just hate to see him literally roll over and die without any dignity and without redemption. I understand that people have to accept death. But not on Lost. Dead is not dead on Lost. Why was Charlie talking to hurley. Why was hurley playin chess with ecko? (even though we didnt see him) Why was locke doing "Jump-N-Jacks" after the plane crashed. He survived a PLANE CRASH!!! He fell out of an 8 story window on his back!!! He was shot! Locke's struggles have made me sympathetic and even inspired. DONT TELL JOHN LOCKE WHAT HE CANT DO!!! If he wants to come back to life he can and he will!!

This may seem like a minute point but it changes the "rules". There's a lot of refernces to chess in a lot of posts. We are not playing chess here, the game that was used as a metaphor is backgammon...(Locke and Walt...Locke's crazy black and white eyes, etc.)The strategy of the game is entirely different, and the role of the pieces is different. This is further supported with conversations like the one between Locke and Widmore, Hawkings and the 316'ers. They constantly refer to the need to move the Characters along, and get them in place on the island as the game is coming to an end. In fact you could make an argument that the dead characters are the pieces that have been played through the board so to speak and are no longer on in the active part of the game. Backgammon is also an ancient game...much like our 2 ancient players...Jacob and his opponent...Like I said this may seem like I'm splitting hairs, but when you're trying to predict things, this might help tie it all together.

I really like your theory, using Hurley's gift to speak to the real Locke, and real Locke helping to undo notLocke's deeds would be awesome, and they might be able to pull it off. I agree that Jacob does have a soft spot for Hurley, but I think that Jacob has a soft spot for all of us. (I hope) Look at how he spoke to Ben, what about you, he didn't say it with anger, he said it with sorrow, even tho he knew it would get him "killed"
Anyway, I got off topic there, what I wanted to say was don't give up on Locke yet, I won't count him out until the very last show and maybe not even then.

I'm not convinced that a reset is actually going to happen. It involves a lot of starting over in just 17 episodes.

Well, there is just one thing about Juliet reseting everything...

LOST Writers have said that "Adan & Eve" will be the proof that everything was planned from the very beginning. And if Jughead bomb resets everything from now (in the show), well... Where is the proof now ? I was pretty sure that Bernard & Rose were Adan & Eve, but with the reset thing... The proof is gone.

I just finished reviewing that book for a course on aging. What I found most striking was that it allows the reader to consider living life more fully. If it helps...Locke was ready to go (see the suicide attempt) :)

As unbelieveable as it may be, I think there are two clues that the real Locke may be resurrected:

1.) Jacob seemingly brought him back to life once. Locke looked pretty dead after his fall form the window, and Jacob's touch revived him. First of all, the fact that Jacob did any of this suggests that Locke has a bigger purpose. And if Jacob revived him once, he can likely do it again, if he isn't really dead himself.

2.) What lies in the shadow of the statue? He who will save us all. It sounds like it refers to Jacob, but Jacob was actually within the statue. Who was lying in the shadow of the statue? Locke's corpse. Add this to other references in the show of Locke being a savior or compared with Christ.

Lost seems to have an undercurrent of hope, so I imagine the writers would rather have Locke's journey be a positive one, faith rewarded, than have it be tragic. More importantly, I think he will realize that he has been manipulated all along and finally make his own choices.

Very true...for those all saying Locke was a sucker and his life meant nothing, it could be that his legacy is that he gives Jack faith. If Jack ends up being our Hero then Locke is not such a schmuck after all!

Not true. If the compass is indeed in an infinite loop then it will degrade over time. How long until there is NO compass left to give to Locke to give to Alpert because it has degraded so much. That could alter our series of events and let Lock live!!

I agree. Jacob spelled it all out in the opening scene. "It only ends once anything before is progress" is the key to the series. I agree with Wes that we got to witness the end of the loop at the end of the finale.

When I think about time loops I can't help but think about the movie groundhog day. If you think about Jack in terms of the Bill Murray character Phil Connors then Jack has been through the loop countless times. Jacob/Lou Pole are trying to figure a way out of the loop.
My question is. . . When does the loop reset to? I guess we'll find out next year.

Season six will probably open with a shot of Jack's eye opening - The groundhog day equivalent of the alarm clock or the phone call in the Movie Run Lola Run.
I think we've seen the end of the loop - Something will be different next season - I can't figure out what.

If we take a clue from Groundhog day then maybe Jack ending up with Kate prevents the loop from repeating. . .

Hey, that would be something. I think Locke's death is mostly shocking or upsetting to people because we still have another whole season to go. But really, it'd be like one of the main characters in a novel getting killed a couple of chapters from the end. In that case, it's not so shocking. Almost expected, even.

Good point! While I always find it annoying when Ben turns out to have already known this or that, I think it seems feasible that he could've been under orders from Lou Pole during the whole season, instructed to bring Locke back. He was still playing both sides up to the end of the season, so it's really hard to tell just what he's planning.

Ha, stupid beleivers. Locke is dead and gone. He was a pawn. John's destiny was not to become the leader of the island, but to help he who should. That's Jack. John Locke's job is done. He converted Jack. Now Jack can save the island and become the new leader of the others.

im starting to think Ben knows more than he lets on(as usual).
maybe he got a little taste of something in the cabin after cabin fever.
could it have been him that broke the ash?(that keep something in or out)

maybe he was sent off island by the smoke? (to kill john and bring everyone back)
just seems like if Ben hadn't been there, Locke would have hung himself,
and how the hell would everyone have got back?

I'm just confused and really have no idea whats going on after watching this show for 5 years.

I like to look at Locke as an Obi-Wan type character. Obi-Wans entire life was a miserable failure, he couldnt protect Anakin, he couldnt protect Padme or anyone else he cared about, he couldnt stop anakin from turning into vader, and he couldnt do much for Luke other than teach and influence before dying.

But in the end, his ideas and teachings were intergral to Lukes defeat of the empire, so he became a hero after death through Luke. (and a blue glowy too)

Maybe Johns insparation of Faith for Jack and his friends will become a herioc force, Helping defeat evil on the island. I can only hope.

tl;dr - Locke will become a blue glowy
