The Onion is reporting that the Smoke Monster from Lost is getting his own spin-off series entitled Where There’s Smoke

The new series, a half-hour family-oriented comedy called Where There’s Smoke, is touted by ABC as the new anchor of its Thursday-night lineup.

“Somewhere between the smoke monster’s first appearance on Lost— when it was depicted as a strange unseen force uprooting trees—and that episode in season three where it grabbed Mr. Eko and smashed him against the ground until he was dead, this character became the breakout star of the show,” said Stephen McPherson, president of ABC Entertainment. “And that’s exactly why we’re so excited about Where There’s Smoke. We get to see the monster’s light comedic side in a show about life, love, and good friends having good times.”

“Because after all, Where There’s Smoke, there’s laughter,” McPherson added.

I wonder how long it will take someone to say “this is a joke, right?”

  2. diablo says:

this IS a joke, right? :D

  3. Seabiscuit says:

    *snerk* :D

    “Veteran TV producer Chuck Lorre,”

    SOLD!

  5. “The whole concept began with us asking, ‘So what happens to the monster after it kills somebody and disappears down that ancient temple vent? What kind of life might it have?’” Lorre said. “And what we realized is that audiences really relate to this character and would like to see it in everyday situations, shooting the breeze with buddies at a local watering hole or murdering its son’s soccer coach and depositing his lifeless body in a tree.”

“And of course, you’ll be hearing lots of its classic catchphrase, ‘Brrrrr, chk-chk-chk-chk, muuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrhhh,’” Lorre added.

    I’m sold!

And then we learn how the monster is just really upset because it cannot procreate (while it is in therapy for daddy issues.)

Second best LOST Onion article ever, only to “Guy who says ‘Previously on Heroes’ wishes he was guy who said ‘Previously on LOST’”

I am on the edge of my seat! This will be a great show! I bet, even better than Lost.

    april fool on may 29th?!..

  9. Ben says:

Better than that cavemen show I guess.

    • Matthew Perry says:

Believe or not, Cavemen was fucking hilarious. I actually just downloaded the entire series. If you haven’t seen in, you should watch an episode before you judge it. I think a lot of people dismiss it without ever seeing an episode because they don’t like the concept.

  10. Chelsy says:

Lol, Ben! That was too funny!

  11. chris says:

Is this a terrible idea? I mean it sounds more watchable than half the stuff that gets on the air. Ya, it’s a little far fetched, but I’m hoping someone gets a spin off after Season 6. They could do anything and I’d like it better than a show like Jon & Kate or Dancing With The Stars. They could do a series on Sawyer and Juliette’s time in Dharma and that would top most of the shows on today. If I had my wishes, I’d like to see a spinoff featuring Richard. Seems like they could go anywhere with his character, literally. Thoughts?

  12. Woodc says:

lets face it we would all watch it like its a religion. if you follow a lost blog, you would follow a bad lost spin off, and we would love it!

  13. jessea says:

this is a joke, right? sort of like Joaquin Phoenix pretending to be a rapper?

  14. Nancy says:

For those of you who don’t know what the Onion is, it is a hilarious “news” site – but nothing is true. Though sometimes I think the stories are more plausible (and newsworthy) than what is on CNN.com. So yes, this is a joke story.

  15. Andy says:

    Wow…this site has gotten very silent since the season ended. I’m going through withdrawal. {sigh}
