I think TV guide a while back said that the character who dies will resemble Charlies death in some way (speaking about the emotional aspect) so I don’t think this is Juliet. The only one who would get a Charlie type reaction out of me is probably Hurley. So many what ifs’ and still have to wait 8 hours for this to air. AHHHHHHHH!

I’ve had that same feeling about Hurley. Just because he is the one who would completely shock everyone. Hopefully not I’m hoping it’s just Miles or someone we haven’t invested as much time in.

I agree. Juliet almost never gets ruffled, even when she does, she’s pretty zen calm about it, and she almost always comes out on top. Which is great, but maybe not as easy to identify with for some as a character that messes up and changes their mind. While I’d like the writers to stop using “Kate gets captured” as a plot device quite as many times each season, it’s just as annoying as their other device “Juliet smiles enigmatically (insert male character here) melts at her feet.”
Since getting back on island I don’t think Kate has been hell bent on stirring up “drama”. While the directors have made much out of cutting between her/Sawyer/Juliet/Jack with significant looks, the character herself has hardly been hanging around the LaFleur house trying to win Sawyer back. She worked in a motor pool, tried to save a kid, attempted to assist a physicist in getting them back to the present day, abandoned said plan when it turned out to involve the likely destruction of an island full of people, and got caught trying to get help. So she hasn’t been terribly successful- it’s not like she sat around twirling her hair and batting her eyelashes. If she did that, I wouldn’t like her either. But she didn’t. If there are characters whose motivations have been love triangle related, it’s been Juliet and LaFleur.

I agree with you. If Jack does not follow through with Faraday’s plan than the past season and a half would be pointless: the freighter folk (specifically Daniel), time traveling, Jughead, Dharmaville, etc. Somehow the 77 losties are going to “die” as Richard said, kind of like how Locke “died.” Maybe they’re all the whispers from the previous seasons. It’s them looking in on themselves as survivors in 2004 and they’ll be part of this “War” in 2007, they must be the other group of others/hostiles at the temple. Because even though Jack detonates that bomb, the universe has a way of course correcting itself–just as Hawking and Des have said. So the swan will still be built, 815 will still crash, blah, blah, blah.

Well, to be fair here, I did say that while I think Sawyer and Juliet are done, I didn’t think they were going to be killed off. I just think their stories are pretty much wrapped up, and that they’re not going to play a big role in the future of the show.

But yes, I would like Kate to be killed off

I had the same thoughts a while back. I thought that someone would detonate the bomb way, way back in the past by taking the bomb to the donkey wheel and going back in time. That’s how the statue gets knocked down too.

hey, you’re a good sport! Ok, I see what you mean. While technicly not the same time, per se, but happening ‘simultaneously’ as the show airs. So you have Jack placing the bomb, cue flashback/foward sound effect and then you see Illana placing her bomb.

That would be cool as a visual cue on the show, and I guess if detonating Jughead sets off something that blasts Jack, et al out of time, so to speak, and Illana’s bomb is what brings them back, that would make a lot of sense.

Here’s what I think are the survival probabilities per character, my suspicions of who will die and who won’t.
Jack/Kate/Sawyer: VERY unlikely. They’re three of the highest stars in the show, and they’re probably going to survive all the way through most, if not all, of Season 6. If one of them dies, it probably means Richard was right… but we know Richard can’t be right, because the writers are not crazy enough to kill half of the show’s leads. They like to be bold and take people by surprise, but after the surprise it’s over, they know they need a show, and deal with the consequences of that specific twist. That’s their cardinal rule. So, no, neither Jack, Kate or Saywer will die.
Specially Kate (for all you Kate-haters)… she has all Season 6 to enable her “Find Claire” mode and still linger on that. Besides, right now, she’s to voice of reason in the show. No matter if it’s for Jack, Sawyer or Sayid, she’s the one who’s making the sound decisions and not letting hot-headed boys do stupidities around.
Hurley: Nein… It would seem rather random. He’s a much loved character and still not big enough to be an obstacle for any part of the story (no pun intended). No matter if it’s a comical, tragic or high-action scene the show’s history has shown that Hugo is flexible enough to fit into any given situation. He’s a much valued asset for the writers, one they will not throw away.
Miles: Not likely. It would seem to convenient for the writers to kill yet another member of the freighter crew. To do so would give the impression of them correcting mistakes, eliminating character that were never supposed to be there. Besides, Miles has undeveloped mysteries linked with the mythology of the show and, like Hurley, he has proven he can mold into any given situation.
Sun/Jin: Very, very low death probability… in Lost, when you’re about to die, at least they care to make put in more to the front, in a more protagonist role. They’ve been rather absent this season and without much to do in their hands.
Desmond: Same as above.
Sayid: I think if he was about to die, his moment would have been He’s Our You. Now there’s too much happening and the focus it’s simply not on him. Not likely to say good bye soon, although I’m afraid he might go back to a role similar to the one he had in most of the third season, and it’s a shame.
Juliet: Very likely. Of course, there’s the possibility of the V gig and the red shirt being too obvious and the writers deciding to put her in a situation where the character lives but leaves the story. But that’s a thin chance. Most likely, she’s the one who ends up getting it.
Richard: None… along with Christian Shepherd, I’m placing all my bets for him to become a regular for season six, if it’s up to the writers, at least.
Ben: Yeah, right.
Locke: Dead is dead, and yet he’s here. I don’t think anyone’s afraid he might die soon.
Jacob: No matter what Locke say, you know he will probably fail. Miserably.

So… that makes Juliet our only strong candidate for a finale death. That makes me wonder: what’s the worry?

Great article, my only frustration with it is the idea that Sawyer will not play a big role. I know Damon and Carlton said this would be the year of Sawyer which makes me worry that he won’t have a big role next season. This is my favorite show, so much so my obsession is very unhealthy as I am sure it is for most everyone on this site. That being said a season without Sawyer would be bitter sweet. I hope that prophecy does not come true.

I’m wondering how folks cope with the lack of lost for so many months following the finales? I am a newbie, as I’ve just started my absolute obsession with the show last summer (I watched all 4 seasons on dvd, and have been hooked ever since)…It has been hard enough each week having to wait for the next episode (and once I finished season 4 waiting until the end of Jan for the start of 5), so I’m kinda dreading tomorrow…especially with the cliff hangers of the past finales, how do you not totally freak when it ends?

I think hurley’s character is too pivotal for it to be him…besides, who would provide the great comic relief next season? His chemistry with Charlie in earlier seasons & then with Miles this one has been so much fun to watch…you can always count on him to deliver a great one liner!

Also, I think that hurley is the one who is broadcasting the numbers that the frenchies hear that causes them to crash (if you listen closely when they crash you can hear the numbers over the radio one of them is holding, and it totally sounds like hurley…all it is missing is a “dude” at the end!)

it would be a cool way to resolve this numbers mystery if in fact they are nothing important to the story…hurley being convinced that these numbers are cursed when all along they were nothing more than a random serial code put on the hatch & just caught up in a time loop of sorts in that because hurley keeps encountering them, he assumes they are bad, but it is because of him that they were ever transmitted and linked with misfortune (it just keeps going round and round).

we get to see both sets of characters at the same time in seperate times, and its a fictional show. I meant same time as we see it. god knows why i think that could work, but: fictional show about timetravel. I think that all the characters are intended to end up in the same time/place again, if only to make Jin and Sun happy, and im just proposing a mechanism for having that happen – although +10 clever on the internet points for you.

But there is no time loop. The time travelers are in effect ensuring their own past, but there is no repeating of events. Jack, Jim, and company only go back in time once, and the Incident only occurs once, some people are just seeing things in reverse order (living the effect, then unwittingly creating the cause.)
