Now I am going to have to endure a whole week of the Alternate Timeline crowd throwing Young Ben’s recent shooting in my face.
But that’s ok. I can take it.
Go ahead. Bring it on.
Go on record.
Take plenty of rope.

Microsoft Store
I’d change the title for people that haven’t watched yet… I don’t care but other people might get pissed
Good point. Will do.
I don’t think he is dead at all… This may be why he becomes so crazy–
Shh! Let them hang themselves!
Agreed. While it’s faintly possible that Darlton carved NO FATE into a picnic table just before they approved this script, I suspect we’re still in Whatever Happened, Happened mode. This is probably the origin of the Ben we’ve come to know. Which would make his relationship with Sayid from 2005-2007 all the more interesting.
Why did Ben refer to his dad in past tense when he said “hated?”
Cheers.
He said “I hate it here.”
So he didn’t say “hated him?” OK…we must have misheard…
I don’t think he is dead and I think Jack or Juliet will save him…actually I can’t see Jack saving him….but maybe he is dead…lol…
Sorry, but I don’t think that Ben is dead. The Island won’t let him die, because he still has to serve his purpose, kind of like with Mikhail and Michael. Now as for older Ben, I’m all for killing him. I was absolutely ecstatic when Sun hit him over the head with that oar last week; it was something I had wanted to do for the longest time.
Bingo. He’s about as dead as Locke was after Ben shot him and left him for dead in the mass grave.
Precisely.
Yeah…I don’t even understand the debate about this. I did notice that, except for Juliet and Miles, everyone else who wasn’t involved in Ben’s shooting made it onto his future list though.
My best guess is that Ben will be found by Richard and healed by the island within a day. Richard and the Others will take this as further evidence of Ben being important, but in fact it’s simply required to prevent a paradox. Ben will be sent back to DHARMA but his future place with the Others is now ensured.
But yes, I expect a lot of noise from the alternate timeline people. I hope this gets resolved next week so it only lasts a few days. But imfromthepast, I really do think Desmond is special and can alter time in some way.
I think Jin will wake up and put Ben in the VW bus, drive back to Dharma-ville and he will live. BUT, Dharma will continue to be stupid and believe that Sayid was an Other and that means the Others shot Ben and attacked Jin and they will want retribution so that will escalate the tension between the two sides. I think Sayid will find Richard and tell him what has happened. Maybe Richard will actually have a plan of action that won’t backfire like Sawyer’s did.
This may be the thing that breaks the truce and eventually leads to the purge. Shooting a child will seem like the last straw for the Dharma folks. They will go on the offensive. Also could ben being shot as a child and living be a sign of the islands favor for him. Could that be one of the reasons he shot Locke. He could have known that if Locke was the really going to be the leader the island would not let him die.
OR…Juliet finds and saves Ben, Ben has a major crush on Juliet…fast forward to Ben bringing Juliet to the island, Juliet is sitting with the “therapist” who tells Juliet that she looks like “her”….her who?!
LOL! Why is it when I tell the Alternate Timeline Devotees to stay away from the commenting section, they flock there in droves, but when I create a post specificly designed for them to say “I told you so!”, they are no where to be found?
Right!?
I argued on occasion that hearing the numbers while 316 went down meant alternate timeline. So I’ll go with my first instinct from when the episode ended: I TOLD YOU SO!
But really, you and your brethren did a good job talking me out of the alternate timeline theory over the last week.
There is still no alternate timeline.
How about a spoiler notification? You seemed to have missed providing one in your eagerness to peacock in front of your peers.
the cat’s out of the bag buddy.
But, ok.
I believe Juliet is going to save Ben’s life. That’s why it’s already been established that Dharma knows she has impressive medical training despite her being a mechanic–they’re going to turn to her to save his life. Being pubescent and vulnerable, he’ll develop a major crush on this hot older woman who has helped him, which is why he’ll be so obsessed with her in the future, and he’ll also grow hateful and resentful, having been betrayed by Sayid. That’s why he told Sayid he was a killer in the Dominican Republic–because he knows first-hand what Sayid is capable of doing, from back in his childhood.
Sorry. SPOILER IF YOU DON’T READ EPISODE SYNPOSYS- DON”T READ IF YOU DON’T— But I think it’s Kate.. In a synopsis of an upcoming episode it cleary states ‘Kate tries to save Ben but Jack won’t help’…
Ben can’t be dead, it’s impossible. If he had died as a child none of the oceanic 6 would have left or even come back to the island (along with a thousand other issues). If Ben was killed as a child Sayid would never have come back and shot him, he wouldn’t have been able to or had the inclination. I think this is the clearest example of a paradox making it impossible to change the past.
If Einstein had resolved the laws of time travel then we would be able to mathmatically figure this out but it has become pretty clear that we don’t really understand the potential alternate time line stuff. If Young Ben was dead, would 2008 Ben just “poof” disappear? I don’t think we can say. At first I thought he would be dead and then Sun and John would have to do something to “fix it”. I thought we would see “its a wonderful LOST life” about what the world would be like without Ben Linus, and I am not sure we still won’t. Maybe the only way we will ever find out who is good and who is evil will be to see what Life would have been like without them.
Okay, so Einstein never worked on anything called “the laws of time travel.” There are no “laws of time travel” to “resolve.” In fact, Einstein’s relativity has absolutely nothing to do with time travel. He in fact says it is impossible. What relativity says is that we are able to percieve an illusory speeding up or slowing down of time (called time dilation) but this has nothing to do with actually traveling time. It just means that the closer you get to the speed of light, the slower or faster time APPEARS to be moving, depending on which way you are looking, behind you or in front of you. You see, it’s all relative, which is why they call it “Relativity” and not “the laws of time travel.”

BEWARE SPOILER AHEAD!!!!!!!
while I appreciate the sentiment, I know Ben is not dead. I am baiting those who think he is into posting something to that effect so they’ll look silly next week.
But shhhh, don’t tell them.
where the hell did you get that so quick?
It was on the Lost Untangled. Most spoilerish frame ever.
BIG SPOILERS AHEAD:
No spoilers mike! Read the rules!
Ok to play alternate timeline’s advocate…
NEW TIMLINE: Little Ben is shot but is saved by Jin (finds) then Kate (begs) and Finally Jack (doctor stuff).
OLD TIMELINE: Little Ben runs away from mean dad, (no Sayid) is found by Richard (no Jin) becomes a hostile (no Kate or Jack), purge is only 30 years away (Ben looks really old then)!
So it all comes down to….
What Happened, Happened!
Ok, for alternate time liners everywhere, what’s your reply?
man, i gotta go back and watch the episode when sayid is locked in the armory with ben season 2. wonder if anything there is relevant to where this season is going. ill buy the juliet attraction thing, that makes sense. any other sayid/ben conversations we should be looking at from seasons past?
I think I just figured out why you’re not getting as many bites as you’d like.
More people than you think are on the whole “whatever happened” bandwagon, the only reason people kept yelling “alternate timeline” is because things seems different in present time (or future or whatever. 2007). Lost fans are used to finding out that the past is different than they expected, so they don’t jump to many conclusions just from a past event. Even a major one.
maybe, although that didn’t stop them when Locke told Richard to look him up on his birth, or when Jin met Danielle.
Who knows why people do or don’t do what they do or don’t do?
I agree with you entirely horselover. I think most people are concerned with how these interactions in the past have shaped the future or should I say what consequences our buddies decisions in the past have on future events like the purge, the incident and flight 815. I still think there is some kind of weird mucky-muck stuff going on with Desmond, Miles and possibly Hurley.
As a sidenote I was a little disappointed that Sawyer’s plan didn’t work out and that Sayid didn’t understand he couldn’t kill Ben.
Hm…I feel like this is kind of…mean. To say the least.
what’s mean?
I am giving people who, until now have been grasping at straws and have been reduced to citing production errors to prove their point, an opportunity to go on record as saying I was wrong.
People can appreciate a well thought out theory. What they have a problem with is how you handle it. We are all here as fans…no need to be a jerk about it. I’ve seen you in the past in attack mode when someone says something you don’t agree with. Again, everyone has an opinion, and if you prove yours intelligently I might even change mine. Being a know-it-all and rude about it makes people want to disregard your thoughts.
This is my opinion at least….I think you have great insight, just need to work on presentation.
I agree completely that nothing is going to change, but I also agree with Lebowski here. A post saying “uh oh, guess people are going to be arguing with me!” doesn’t seem to have a place here among actual theories, spoilers, and news.”
I don’t mean to offend, but I feel like this thread is a bit shallow.
Couldn’t have said it better myself…
An alternate timeline doesn’t mean, that all things happen in the opposite. My meaning about what they can do hasn’t changed and it also wouldn’t change, if Ben will be alive next episode.
Ive read in other spoiler posts that something happens to Ben that turns him into the man he is today and I also read that there is conflict between the losties on if they should save Ben so we know he is alive. So why do you act like you figured out something that no one else knew when its already been posted elsewhere
