My point is that Sawyer’s tough enough without playing tough music. He would have pulled that scene off with Petula Clark’s Downtown. Also, this would have been a nice touch – as he’s mourning Juliet he’s listening to her fav song.

It’s the Stooges… and its rock and roll from 1973. Its been on rock radio before punk was ever a thing. Sawyer obviously has the hard rock attitude and The Stooges definitely fit the nihilistic mood he was in.

I would think assuming he likes, oh, I dunno, Toby Keith or some crap like that just because he’s southern is probably just a stereotype. I’m not saying you’re stereotyping him, I’m just saying that would be a far too

As you note, he has diverse tastes in literature. Why not in music too? Certainly, listening to the Stooges and singing Bob Marley would indicate that. Anyhow, I agree… The song choice was great, as it pretty much always is on the show.

I’ve made my own Lost soundtrack for my iPod and it’s been a blast putting it together. Some songs are just too dopey for my tastes: “Love Will Keep Us Together,” for instance (even though they way they used it was hilarious), and some I just don’t like (Nirvana). I’ve got most of them though, even all that Patsy Cline. It’s a really eclectic mix, and now I’m going to add this Iggy & The Stooges song.

Yeah, but did you expect Sawyer, who seemed at first to be some kind of good ol’ boy hayseed early in season 1, to be singing a Bob Marley song either? I don’t think listening to Iggy Pop was that big of a stretch, given that. Who’s to say he didn’t discover Iggy and punk rock, not to mention reggae, in high school or something?

Or maybe someone loaned him the album while he was living in Dharmaville. Maybe he heard it, liked it for whatever reason, and loaned him the record. I wouldn’t dwell on it much… I think Lost has moments far more improbably this one. Pretty much everything that happened in “What Kate Does,” for instance.

I bet if I lost the person I loved and was overcome with grief, “Search and Destroy” would be a great song to hear when I was drinking straight whiskey and trashing my house, lol.

The line about the forgotten boy, searching to destroy could refer to MIB as well. He’s recruiting, searching for someone (Richard, then Sawyer). We don’t fully know MIB’s plan, but I bet something or someone will be “destroyed” in a sense.

Re: Sawyer’s choice of song, maybe people aren’t as obvious as they seem. Just because someone is from the south doesn’t necessarily mean they would never be interested in punk.

I’m sure it was available in the house, and Sawyer was drunk. Sure, country seems more appropriate for Sawyer, but he no doubt has a varied taste in music just as he has a varied taste in literature. I loved the song choice — the perfect way to introduce the arrival of the Nemesis in this episode. He’s out to search and destroy.

I find it hard to believe that Sawyer likes punk.
I get that Jack listened to Nirvana in the flashforwards in Through the Looking Glass. He’s basically am Ivy League doctor who, when he’s doing something rebellious, resorts to the obvious choice of rebellious music because he doesn’t know better. But Sawyer is a Southern Man, a con man from Alabama, and punk just doesn’t fit him at all. When he’s mad, when he’s feeling down, he doesn’t need to play loud music. Despite the nice connections with the lyrics I thought the choice of song was stupid and out of character for Sawyer. Iggy Pop is about the last thing I’d ever guess for Sawyer’s musical taste.
