Matthew Fox's promotional tour for his new movie Vantage Point has occasionally yielded some tidbits for hungry Lost fans.

In an interview with RTE.ie, Fox hints at a darker Jack, the timeline of the flash-forwards and what mysteries might be resolved in Season 4.

Highlights:

  • About Jack: " Everybody wanted him to be this heroic guy, and actually, he's really flawed and the island is stripping away this deep compassion in him and bringing out a much darker side, so there's an evolution that's happening in the character"
  • About the general track of Season 4:  " Answering all those questions of who got off with him? Who's in the casket? Why does he want to go back, this guy of all people? Why is he suicidal and desperate to go back?"
  • How much time has elapsed between Island Jack and the Miserable Addicted Jack we saw in TTLG: "If you're going to talk about from Jack in the plane crash to Jack in the future, that's about a year and a half, and Jack on the island now would be about 120 days."

What surprises you the most?

Which mystery are you most excited about resolving?

There has to be more time than a 1 1/2 years between plane crash Jack and suicidal Jack. Jack's use of the Krazr shows that its at least early 2007 (2 1/2 years since crash). Maybe a year and half between the crash and when Jack visited Hurley in the mental institution.

Maybe more than 18 months, maybe not. I don't know that I'd be so tied to a prop that might have been a mistake. But that's just me.

I would ignore Foxy's interview before I ignored the cell phone. It would be easy to say that Foxy got confused as actually thinking of his time with Hurley as being 18months after they left island, because if I was writing for Lost and all I put in the script was "cell phone" then I would sincerly hope that someone in the chain would realize, "Hey, this is Lost and it's the season finale. Fans are going to screencap everything for clues. If we have a cell phone that didn't come out until 2007 then they're going to know it's 2007."

Now, depending on how important this particular timeline is, as in, is the order of events more important than the specifici "when" of the event (i.e. first, second, third...versue June 12, 2005, April 1, 2006, September 22, 2007...)then that would determine how important this 18months versus the Krazr is.

Maybe the Oceanic Six got their pick of the newest cell phones before they hit the market. Too bad the castaways got back too early to get a free iPhone...

So it sounds like we'll find out who's in the coffin this season. Very cool. I really wonder what else is to come if we're finding out so much so fast but still have two full seasons to go.

Keep in mind that there's some wackiness going on with time on the island. He may have been speaking island-time wise. Until we know for sure what's going on with time on the island we won't know if Fox's time estimates are accurate or not.
