The official description for LOST 4.09 - "Shape of Things to Come"

"The Shape of Things to Come" - Locke's camp comes under attack, and Jack tries to discover the identity of a body that has washed ashore, on "Lost," THURSDAY, APRIL 24 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Who is not pumped for this?  So let's start dissecting.  Body that washes ashore?  Not Regina, unless the chains around her neck were made of Styrofoam. Patchy?  Say it isn't so.  Charlie?  Not.  One of the looking glass babes? Why?

My guess is this body is going to belong to one of the "NEW" people who have come to island, and by new... I don't mean freighties.

What is the signifigance of the body Jack finds?
It confirms another group of people have arrived.
It is someone we know.
It is someone from the freighter.

This is definitely what you'd expect to see of a post-strike episode description. The writers have new things to introduce to the plot, but the contraction of eight episodes to five means that they've pulled out the stops. Escalation to the season finale will basically start at about 10:01 PM on April 24.

After the last couple episodes, about which I've felt lukewarm, I suspect the episodes after the hiatus will be pretty stellar.

My thought is that it is one of the freighties who took off from the boat an episode or two ago. They are the ones attacking the barracks, and maybe resposible for Carl and Danielle (although I'm still not convinced it wasn't Ben setting them up). Daniel or Charlotte will reckognize the body and know that the next wave has begun.

Am I too naive to hope it's Christian??

bmorglost - I firmly believe Ben set up Carl and Danielle. I think it's the Others who shot them and not anyone from the boat.

Lost usually has very little (if anything) that's an unintentional throw-away. Almost everything foreshadows something else. If you noticed early in the last episode, I(Ben) gave an evil look to Carl when he and Alex showed up holding hands and looking in love. Add that to my repeated comments to Sayid that his emotional attachment to a woman was his Achilles Heel (and Sayid's response that I used that against him), and I think you'll quickly see that I have no qualms about using anyone for any reason that suits my purposes.

I'll admit it, I sent Carl to his death just like Goodwin before him. If Danielle is dead, that would be an unfortunate accident (like Michael killing Libby).

Evan, yeah that is still my predominant belief, but I am keeping open to the possibility of it actually being the freighties, or Doc's third (or is it fourth?) party. It could even be a combination, like Ben sent them off knowing that the freightie's attack is eminent and they would encounter them. Like he sent Goodwin off knowing he would probably be (and was) found out and killed by the tailies. Or maybe it's the Others, who knows. Anyway, that was just an aside from my main theory, which is that someone is attacking the barracks, perhaps the freighties, and I think it's quite possible that a) they attacked Carl and co. on their way to the barracks, and b) maybe they lost someone in their group while arriving on the island, who has now washed up on shore.

Only 2 qualms with it being Ben who sent gun-toting marauding Others after his daughter's pals:

1) Someone took a shot at Alex. It hits the tree just above her head.

2) Where did the Others get sniper rifles? We've never seen such a thing. Doesn't rule it out, though, either.

Evan said:

1. I don't think we can say that they were "aiming" for Alex just because a shot hits above her head. I think if whoever was shooting wanted hit Alex they would have.

2. The Others have a nuclear sub. I don't think sniper rifles is really a stretch.

Chris said:

My biggest qualm about this whole thing is...59 minutes instead of 62? WTF?

Ben said:

Nuclear sub... I think you need to do a little research, that sub is NO nuclear submarine.

And its not the others shooting them, that would be dumb and doesn't fit in at all with where the show is going

get real people

Evan said:

Okay. You got me. I'm not up to snuff on my navy vessels. But nuclear or not, it's a submarine and my point was that it's completely conceivable that the others have sniper rifles considering the resources at their disposal.

And I'm not saying it definitely is the others shooting at them, but it's certainly plausible.

Ben told Alex he was sending them to the temple and when Karl asked why the other losties at Locke's camp couldn't come with Ben said, "Because the temple's not for them, Karl. It's only for us." But why did he let Danielle go? She's certainly not one of them.

I don't fully trust Ben yet and him leading Danielle (who is not one of his people and therefore an enemy and, let us not forget, trapped Ben to begin with) and Karl (who already has betrayed him) into such a trap is completely in the realm of possibility.

How doesn't it fit in with where the show is going?
