erasedslate.jpg"There's No Place Like Home, part 1" was a setup for something else.  We have lived through two episodes in three weeks that served as the basis for something else.  This episode does not stand it's own, but as the first act to a three act story.  In a way, this episode serves as the meat, vegetables, and spices that are combined to make a stew.  Now that the ingedients are combined, we get to simmer over it while the flavors are infused together.  Very soon, in two weeks, we will be served with the tastiness that is the finale of season 4.  Then, the hunger begins again.

Hostile Takeover:

Sun becomes a comporate mogul.  Buying controlling interest in her father's company.  She does this to exact revenge on one of the people she feels is responsible for Jin's "death."  Who is the other.  I think two possibilities:

1. Widmore is a candidate. He financed the crew and the mercenaries.  And, the only way to go after Widmore is financially.  So, taking over Paik is the first step to go after Widmore.  My opinion is that this scenario means that Jin is dead.

2. Locke is a candidate.  If he is successful in moving the island, then he is the one responsible for their current separation.  This gives us hope that Jin is still alive.

One of the things that intrigues me is it seems like the finaciers of the all island to real world activities are being eliminated.  Paik was involved in DHARMA and now it is owned by one of the new island protectors, Sun.  Hurley still owns a number of companies, like a box company, that can be the basis for a new protectorship.  We know that Sayid is eliminating the old guard.  It looks like the cycle is beginning again.  I wonder if the O6 serve as the basis for a new guard of island protectors.  A guard that is pushing out the old guard lead by Widmore.

Is Ben making an exit?

Ever since "The Shape of Things to Come," I have been getting the feeling that Ben leaves the island, but is unable to return just like the rest of the O6.  He has a tremendous amount of resources at his disposal.  Resources that seem to have a history.  If there is a cycle to this show, then it could be that Widmore will eventually subplant Widmore as the man with resources gained from the island that is desperate to get back.  The cycle will continue until some overall conflict is resolved.

Every cover-up has its flaw.

There have been much ado about the problem with the O6+2 or 3.  We have been told that 2 are irrelevant by the producers and possibily would never be identified.  It is a lie from the first telling.  I lie which they have to make work.  This part of the story seemed to have been conjured up by Jack to make the story more believable.  Every lie wants, begs for truth to shine on it.  While it may been a ruse by the writers to protect the identity of the 6 from the viewers, it may also serve as the unravelling of the lie that is continually perpetuated by the O6.  We see the hole because we know the whole of the story.

This could also be why Kate stopped Jack from continuing the story in the trial.  She may have realized the problem.

The lie is that 8 it out alive from the plane.  Two died while Kate tried to save them.  That should leave 6 on the island.  Then along comes Aaron according to the cover story.  That would have meant that 7 were on the island and could have been rescued.  There is a math problem to the cover story.  There really is no way around it, and the producers have deemed it unimportant.  So, we can chalk it up to writer error, or another sinister plot.

Not looking good for the folks on the frieghter.

I like Jin.  He has made a full circle.  He has redeemed himself.  In this story, it also means that his story is about to end.  I fear for his well being.  So, I am preparing for tragedy and hoping for salvation.  Knowing the pattern of the finale's on this show, that his fate may be up in the air until the season 5 begins.

Who is left behind?

I want to leave this question open.  Some will survive, some will die, some will be rescued.  What happens to our favorite characters? to the mercenaries? to the freighter four?  Whew, can't wait for the rest of the finale.

Locke seems to be the default character to blame on the show. I think this is because his motivations have not been entirely clear in the past. How about the second person to blame being Sun herself. She is the one that ran away and whom Jin was attempting to retrieve. She is responsible for putting them both on the plane.

It's not Widmore nor Ben.

Paik is involved in Dharma? I have not seen it in any apisode yet. Am I missing something here???

Erased - Out of curiosity, do you speak more than one language?

(from Lostpedia) In "D.O.C." ...moments later, when Sun goes to see him, she interrupts Mr. Paik having a conversation with his associates. The conversation is notably not subtitled despite all other Korean conversations being so in the episode. Translation has revealed that Paik was arguing about forged shipping documents which they were supposed to provide for the Hanso Foundation (or possibly vice versa). Paik warns that they must provide the equipment soon or their friends will become very annoyed (or possibly he will become very angry).

Prediction: Sawyer will die/sacrifice himself in a noble manner. He's been more sympathetic, and seems to care more about those around him. I think he knows that he can't have Kate, so he will give her up and try to go out as a decent guy.

Has anyone else realized that Sun isn't going to be getting much from her"takeover"? It was a bold move, I'll give her that but not well thought out. The "car company" is more of a front for Paik. His fortune is made through other, less honest means.

I'm sensing a Sawyer-Juliet island hook-up next season.
By the way...it was great to see the return of "The Others."

Im gonna hazard a guess and say; Jin, Michael, and all the mercenaries die.
Everyone else gets captured by the Others, with their new leader, John Locke.
Just had a thought; how are the O6 gonna find the island, if its been moved......................?
Another one; what if its Sayid in the coffin. After everything hes been through, the love of his life is dead, and now hes out of control running around assinating people. Sounds like a good candidate for suicide. His aliases would change his name, and his recent activities would make Kate want to stay away from his funeral..................

You welcome. And if you are interested in non-canon information (non episode), google "The Lost Experience" which was a online alternate reality game which was approved by the producers, but is not considered canon if any connections in the game contradicts information in an episode.

The Lost Experience deals with corporate intrique between Hanso, Widmore, Paik and The Maxwell Group, plus some minor players.

Some stuff that has been discussed in The Lost Experience has been revealed on the show.

I got the impression that the two people who were responsible for Jin's death were Mr.Paik and Sun herself. She might blame herself for everything that happend.

Dude. The flash part in that episode is what I like to call a "flash-forback" (a combination of flash forward and flashback. hehe...). The flash forward part is the Sun story, and the flashback is Jin's. Remember when Jin said in the hospital he was only married in 2 months? That proves that it happened before the crash.

sith, i don't think it can be sayid in the coffin due to the timeline of events. The funeral parlor flashfwd is the closest, in terms of timeline, to the O6 getting off the island. Darlton said that the S3 finale will be caught up to by the end of S4. So if Sayid is in the future with Ben, killing people, then the chance of him being in the coffin is very slim. Thanks for thinking outside of the box though. I haven't seen Sayid suggested for the coffin yet.

Another thing to ponder is the person who is in the coffin is neither friend or relative. I would think Jack would consider Sayid a friend, maybe not. Either way, when Jack meets Kate at the airport and asks her if she went to the funeral parlor, she says something along the lines of, 'why would i go?' ....kinda with a snicker, but it lets us know that its someone that Kate never liked and/or trusted. I think Kate at least respected Sayid. Therefore, I'm guessing its Michael. I like the whole 'he fulfilled his destiny/redemption' angle. Plus, since he killed two people, Kate would be turned off by him. ....and since he might have known how to get to the island, this would explain why Jack is a bit distraught by his passing.

Just a little off subject here... We've always wondered how the Black Rock got in the MIDDLE of the jungle. Could it have anything to do with "moving" the Island? Faraday's notebook on his Orchid page stated "time like factor" and "space like factor". If it was moved in the past, did it appear under/around the Black Rock? Can the Island move through time and space or is "moving" the Island just another way of obscuring it again from the outside world?
Also, I got the impression Sun felt she was the other person responsible for Jin's "death"

Maybe Im wrong, but I thought Jacks "We need to go back!" flashforward is the furthest ahead weve seen.

This was a really insightful review/recap, ErasdSlate.

I read many reviews after each episode, and this was among the most intellectual, concise and accurate.
