Why is this guy strapped to the bed with his shoes on? If they've had him there for any period of time, or intend for him to be there for awhile, wouldn't someone have taken off his shoes? Seems maybe he was put in quickly when the freighties realized Desmond was on the helicopter and they overlooked that detail in their haste. Maybe he's there to pretend to be a captive and gain the trust/cooperation of Desmond while really trying to get information Desmond might volunteer.
Minkowski!
I know we're told it's Minkowski, but I have my doubts about it really being him, that's why I called him "the guy strapped to the table". Why would Minkowski, who's supposedly the mastermind on the freighter, be strapped to a table?
Dominick, who ever said that Minkowski is the 'mastermind'? Sure, he's the first one the Losties spoke to, and he generally answers the phone, but I don't see how that makes him the mastermind. What did you see/hear that led you to believe he was? (Maybe we missed something?)
Keep in mind that the last few times anyone has asked for Minkowski on the phone, Regina told them that he "was busy" or "couldn't come to the phone right now". Then the freighties did go a whole day without answering any calls on their "non-emergency" number...maybe they were busy with Minkowski going crazy... (?)
I thought Doc or someone else had identified this actor as the one who plays Minkowski based on credits....(no?)
Lockefan3805, Fisher Stevens, the actor playing Minkowski, is the guy strapped down on the cot. He's a pretty memorable-looking guy. And his voice is also easily distinguished, hence his voiceover career. He's easily recognizable.
I just assumed since Minkowski was answerring the phone, he was the one getting updates and giving the orders to the freightie "rescuers".
Anyway, mastermind or not, my point was why is he wearing shoes? Just seems curious to me.
Maybe his feet reek.

Good catch on the shoes...maybe it's "Anna in the pit" all over again...Desmundo should watch his back!
Maybe Minkowski experiences similar effects to those shown by Desmond in the preview, so they keep him strapped down in sick bay until he snaps out of it...just a guess...
