This portion of Doc Jensen's interview  focuses on how the writer's strike has affected the back half of the season.

It's all good news!

  • Hold onto your hats! If you thought that things were moving quickly already in Season 4, get ready, because the pace of the last 5 episodes is going to be even faster.
  • The strike has brought blessings and hurdles in regard to casting.
      • Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert) is now available because Cane has gone the way of the Do-Do.
      • But someone else (probably Ken Leung, as we told you previously) signed on fr a play.  According to Damon, this is an actor "We very much need". And yet another is doing an HBO series. (Sonya Walger ?)
      • Most intriguing, Lindelof says that the finale depends upon characters being in different places on the Island, and getting people properly distributed will be challenging in the condensed back half of episodes.
Damon sums it up well :
"It's like stuffing eight kids into a Prius. We probably should have an SUV, but it's going to be a really fun ride, so let's buckle up and party. One of the kids might end up flying through the windshield, but hey: That's Lost. "

Any thoughts regarding the actors with other commitments? I gave you my best guesses above, but interested in hearing yours. And why is the geography of characters across the Island so important to the finale? Any theories?

they have to be in different places because 6 of them are going to be rescued, and the others (im guessing team locke) will be left behind because they werent around

Yay! I'm so glad to hear that Nestor will be back. Hope they write a contract with him this time.

As for an actor who might do theatre, if it isn't Ken Leung, my guess would be either L. Scott Caldwell (Rose) or maybe Malcolm David Kelley (Walt). It might be Michael Emerson, but I'd guess they have a pretty strong contract with him.

The big question is... where will the helicopter pick them up? (in the Finale i'm sure) The Barracks? Beach? This is why they need to move the Losties around, the O6 need to be in once place at one time. Kate is going back to the beach to Jack... but Hurley and Aaron are still at the barracks. Sayid is already on the copter, he can just keep his seat belt on.

It seems a bit too early for the "rescue" to happen this season imo. It would be very hard for them to split present time between the real world and the island. It seems more likely that the rescue will happen at the end of the 5th season by which time the flashforwards will have covered everything about the Oceanic 6. Then in season 6 Jack &co return to the island and they could have new on-island flashbacks from Locke &co about what happened to them in the interim.

Remember the game where you have to get the grain, chicken, and fox across the river on a boat if you can only take one at a time without one left with the other it can eat?

Well, assume x number of helicopters ride back from the island? Who can get off the island on the least amounts of rides and still be one of the O6 (and then throw in Aaron).

The helo can only hold three adults plus the pilot.

Sayid, say he stays on the boat the rest of the season - unless he is the pilot at some point. We know Hugo, Jack, and Kate make it back, plus two others.

So assuming the O6 make it off via the copter, then it would have to make more than one trip.

Ech... need to think this out more.

Cheers,

...forgot in my post above... this applies to this post because the location of everyone in the O6 would be important in some way. But like I said....need to think this out more.

Oh thank god. Nestor. I have missed you and your girly looking mascara eyes so much. SO MUCH.

Yes, please, for the love of everything, sign a contract with that man before he gets another pilot.

(I mean, hello?? how was there not a contract the first time?!)

I had a freaking heart attack when I learned about Cane.

If sonya walger is the actor that is missing I will literally kill myself. It might also be cynthia watros which is still not good.

Just watched a history channel special on a slave ship captained by JON LATHAN. Is this a possible hint? Black Rock, Jacob, Ben, Desmond???

The actor who has signed on for a play is Alan Dale (Charles Widmore) who is playing King Arthur in Spam-A-Lot in the West End, till June.
