The end is approaching quickly, and the closer we get the harder the games seem to be. Tonight's was probably the hardest yet. For those of you who haven't attempted yet the rules are like this:
Sam has hacked out 8 characters of the password. Only 5 actually belong and the order is unknown. We have 10 attempts to get it right. Oh, and everytime you fail the 8 characters change. There may be easier ways to win and I definitely hope you'll submit your strategy. Here is mine.
I started out with the strategy that I was going to lose, alot, but hope for the best. So what I did was enter only one letter at a time in each row. Odds are in your favor that you'll have eliminated the negatives within five tries. You know they are a negative if all of the dots are black. One red dot and they are part of the password.
In your remaining attempts its all about the order. Lay out a random order them turn the letters in twos. The order of the dots do not mean anything. If you are luck, again prepare to lose many times, you will move a character into place, then use another group to try to determine which of the two is in place. When you move the one that is in place, you'll lose a dot. When you move the others, if you are luck you will gain more. The more you have, the fewer moves it takes to figure it out. It took me about seven attempts to solve.

How does Sam know what the coordinates are? I know that he knows the first set of numbers from the highlighted numbers in his email, but what about the second set of numbers?
There was a second email that revealed the numbers in hex
I don't think I'm ever going to get past this activity! Arg!
"I don't think I'm ever going to get past this activity! Arg!"
heh...ARG. I see what you did there. ;)
wow. 27 tries later and i guessed. go me. :)
Took me about 5 tries and it was just trial and error. I did put like one or two in and see if they were correct, and if I got white I'd just move the correct ones around and my last try to got it, the three I picked was just pure chance.
This was really challenging but fun!
Wow, I must have got super lucky as I got it the second attempt. All I got to say is hang in there. Just be patient, and very quick! Time runs out in a hurry!
okay wtf, i'm really hating this game, and the thing that tells me which numbers are right really doesn't help at all!!!
I've figured a system to get the code 9 out of 10 times. And I've done it a few times only using 5 guesses. Let's just see if I can explain it well enough.
You're given the characters in 2 rows of 4. Enter one of the rows just as it's written. One line will either have 1 or 2 correct characters and the other will have 3 or 4. If you enter the one with 3 or 4 then great. If not, abandon the line you first used and go to the other. If the line has three right then you'll need to find the incorrect one and get rid of it. Then you'll need to take your 3 or 4 characters and get them in the right spots. Don't change the positions of more than 2 characters at a time or it'll be too hard to figure out which ones are right. Once you got them all in the correct place then use characters from the other line on the empty spaces.
You might need a couple tries before you get the hang of this system but, once you do, you should be able to get the code almost every time.
wow matt, nice strategy. I got it on my first try using it, but I got a little lucky.
Wow, all those games of Mastermind with my Dad as a kid paid off - lol ! Only took me about 8 goes and I didn't even realise there was a time limit. I'm sorry, the last two puzzle/activities have been easier than I expected. The circuit/grid thing was the hardest for me so far. Matt has a pretty good sytem going there too !
This game is the worst!
Okay i put in numbers like a idiot. That useless thing on the right tells me that e.g. QD are red in the 1st and second position. Ok I go to other numbers/letters. The next time i put in the QD in the same position it tells me its white!!!!!
The order seems to change every try out of the 10! I just dont understand what they want me to do? Guess?
Matts strategy is not working, red doesnt stay red, letters white in one go turn black in other goes...
This is shit...

Yeah it only took me three times! This is how I managed:
* First you enter 1 character
* if you're lucky it's immediatly a red dot!
* since it's only 1 char, you know it's the right one, and the right position too!
* if the first char you enter isnt red, but white, ok, no prob, try another character in the next step
* you continue like this, until your first and only char is red! that way you can take that char to the next level.
Just to illustrate this game makes no sense...
Red means correct position! Why does that change after one go??????????? Just awful game, no fun at all...

Misak - Red does mean you have a character in the right position, but it doesn't mean that the red dot corresponds with the letters.. for example: Your first 2 dots are red. This does NOT mean that your first 2 characters are correct. It just means that 2 out of the 6 are in the right spot, it doesn't tell you which ones though. This is what's making it harder for a lot of people I think because it's a really easy thing to get confused.
I meant 2 out of 5.. not 6
i got it in 3 attempts : 12NYE
Ryan: Thx man. No i understand. I was just too confusing the way I understood it before:)
Thnx Daisy!
Yours did it for me in only 2 game-go's :)
Thanks to Daisy for the reminder of Mastermind and Matt for his excellent strategy. Both of those helped me finish that one off quickly. :-)
Good lord, that was probably the most difficult one yet.
DarthVibbert, its different for everyone. The letters and numbers will change. There really any cheats for this one, just had to keep trying. I got by chance and trial and error. Lol I wasn't going to let this task win and give up after getting so far!
Omg, omg, omg. I finally got it! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions :)
Okay, this is just crap! Today, the dots aren't even in a row so how are we supposed to figure out which one is correct and which one isn't? I am not getting this at all. I such at Math to begin with and I have tried and tried. I agree with whomever said,'I get a red dot in one row but then the next row, it either shows up white or not in the equation at all'. I hope we do not have to finish this activity before moving on. I know I will never get this and I am not going to keep trying. It could be anything. To those of you who have gotten it, congratulations. Whether by luck or skill, good for you. I give up though. I was enjoying the game until now. This is too hard and I, for one, think they could have come up with something else!
MATT! I tried like 20 times, and then I read your method and it worked the first time I used it. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Thanks Matt! I used that strategy but I also found something else out. You can figure out which ones are correct. The dots represent the spaces as follows:
Upper Left Dot - 3rd Space
Upper Right Dot - 4th Space
Middle Dot - 2nd Space
Lower Left Dot - 5th Space
Lower Right Dot - 1st Space
For the dot one, I just said fuck it. Sorry, but the game isn't that important that I want to sit through an animation every time I have to retry, and I don't feel like doing some outdated game a million times.
Not impressed. Sami's strategy doesn't work. I tried it, and the dots didn't match up. So I skipped the game and went onto clue hunt and it just froze. The game's been clunky all along, but now it's downright unusable. Is there anywhere I can find a rundown, so I don't miss anything but I don't have to sit through this game?
