It had to happen sooner or later.  DocArzt and Friends is ambling into the LOST podcasting scene – better late than never?  That remains to be seen.

In our inaugural episode, Koobie and I take a look at LaFleur – an episode we both declare one of LOST’s better character pieces to date.  We expose the Easter Egg hidden in the title (with the help of a friend), and discuss the ups and downs of shipping in the wake of Suliet.

If you have a theory, a news item, a spoiler, or an observation that you’d like to make it into the next episode, leave us a voicemail on Skype at docarztandfriends, or call us at (619) 618-0262.  Remember, the recordings could be used on the air, as is.

If you are unable to use the player below, the podcast can be downloaded directly from this link in MP3 format. We also have the enhanced version (m4a) available by clicking here.

Update - The podcast is now available on ITunes (Wow, that was quick).

Since we are late to the game, next weeks episode will be a retrospective of LOST season 5 so far.  Until then, namaste.

Guys, are you 100% positive that the statue god is Anubis? I’ve read that it might be Nut…

    • docarzt says:

Well, everything is open to interpretation and further investigation – of course. Let that be more of a statement on when we recorded rather than what we may think going forward.

    • ezelite says:

The writers probably dont know which statue it is, they probably just wanted something egyptian. I think the statue is not integral, and i would be more concerned as to whether or not they will really be able to explain the numbers, the experiments, and the equations whilst messing around with the shows child like relationships. They did a poor job of the O6’s complete lack of interest into any of the strange time travel/teleportation events. Its like all Jack cares about is saving people, but most of them were just cannon fodder for the action scenes. Also, they changed the whole plot when they wrote Eko out, so is the nigerian plane even relevant anymore? My point is – the clock is ticking and one week of hiatus has created an entire community obsessed with the significance of an obtuse statue. If we are lucky, Lindlehoffs poker face is concealing an explanation rather than the fear of a million lost viewers being pissed off!

  2. congested says:

    AWESOME!!! Listening now.

    This is great news! :)

    • docarzt says:

Hope you like it! It’s a bit rough around the edges, but we had fun and our future plans are pretty exciting.

      • congested says:

Just finished. You and Koobie did a great job. I’m a big fan of Lost podcasts and I think it’s great that you have one now.

      • Mirko says:

Even still being in the fledgling stages this already is a delightful extension to the many stunning contributions of your wonderful site!

Thanks for your effort, which enchants our miraculous LOST world a little more, Doc!

  3. RandomZombie says:

    Great podcast.

As far as Kate and James go, I’m with you guys. Let it be over.

I’m hoping that Kate approaches James, and he just waves her off. She pretty much only showed interest in James when Jack was emotionally unavailable, or when she wanted something. It’s time for her to get what’s coming to her.

Also, he’s spent three years as James or Jim – “Sawer” is a thing of the past. This could be used to show the rift between the 06 and those who stayed behind. If Kate runs up shouting “Sawer,” that could just show him how far apart they are now.

I’ve never been a shipper, but I’m all about James and Juliet. James + Juliet = Juliet. Or James…

  4. Wintermute says:

Nice Doc. Enjoyed the podcast. Keep ‘em coming.

  5. 5ws1h says:

Podcasting is a cool new feature for your great site!
    I like it!

  6. Dan Berry says:

I just watched LaFluer. By far my favorite episode of this season thus far. The statue. Incredible.

Coming out of this, I came to a conclusion. I believe the passengers of Oceanic 815 have always been a part of the island. Everyone’s path leads to the island because they cause events to occur in the past, and in order for the space time continuum to uphold, the Oceanic 6 must return to cause said events. Imagine time as a circle with a dot in the middle, as many of you may know, this symbol has shown up a lot in the series. Including Oceanic’s logo.

The island is the dot in the middle of the ring. If time is occurring clockwise, the Losties progress to the center is like a funnel draining. Once the 6 left, the were back on the circle, but only continued down their original path; to the island. They had not yet caused the events that led to their original path to the island. If they are not present on the island when they first effected time, a breach in time would occur. Widmore probably owns, or funded, the Oceanic franchise, planning the 815s arrival. Perhaps Ben and Widmore are playing a giant game through time.

I feel the same way…watching Faraday encounter baby Charlotte for the first (?) time completely solidified for me that, despite his jungle mumblings that he “wouldn’t do it,” he’s going to break and instill the very curiosity that brings her back 30+ years later only to die and make Faraday sad enough to latch on to baby Charlotte in the first (?) place.

      • gary locke says:

But Daniel is Charolette’s daddy. I am sure of it. watch all th episodes with the 2 of them in it,and it is very clear. She is not his love interest…but his lovely daughter.

  7. Magnus says:

Awesome podcast DocArtz! Thanks for putting this up.

Will there be an ITUNES feed?

  8. clueless1der says:

Wow! How awesome are you two? :D

Ok- here’s a question. Sawyer had left Kate with a task to do- one that she wasn’t comfortable telling Jack about. There’s been a ton of speculation around about what the task was- if there was actually a task. For all I know he was whispering the recipe to the secret sauce to her. Anyway, with redemption of the characters being a benefit of the island, how do you think that task will feature into the new Kate/Sawyer/Juliet drama? Or am I focusing on minute details again….

And the other thing- is it at all probable (I would say possible but it seems that anything pretty much being possible on that island that Daniel didn’t really see a physical “Young-Charlotte” on the island? Could his guilt have made him see a vision of her or something? That might explain the age discrepancy.

    • Robson says:

I think the “task” has been confirmed that it was to visit Clementine and tell her that daddy loves her or something like that. I don’t really think it will be of any greater importance in the future.

      • KeepingAwake says:

I think that it might be important because my first thought when Kate showed up at Jack’s sans Aaron was that she might have left him with Cassidy. It makes sense in a way–she’s the only friend of Kate’s we’ve seen who is still alive, and she’d have a good chance of retrieving Aaron from Cassidy if she ever makes it back from the Island.

Yes, it’s my crazy theory, but I like it. ;)

        • Seabiscuit says:

I always wondered if there was more to the writers having Kate refuse to tell Jack about her whereabouts, and if indeed it was about Cass and Clem. If Jack doesn’t know about them, then Ben doesn’t, either, since Jack tells Ben just about damn near everything now. Which would make Cassidy a good person with which to hide Aaron, and better than leaving him with Carole, a known relative, and where Ben’s people would look first.

At least that’s what I thought until we learned that both Ben and Widmore are keeping watch on the O6, so maybe that theory’s been shot down. Unless Kate somehow knows about the spies and is really good at evading them.

        • 5ws1h says:

          Sawyer knows Cassidy
          Kate knows Cassidy
But did Sawyer know Kate knows Cassidy?
I guess I missed that episode.

          • KeepingAwake says:

It hasn’t been explicitly said, no. So you didn’t miss anything. For this theory to work you have to assume that Sawyer mentioned Clementine to Kate before he jumped from the chopper in last year’s finale.

Kate did tell Jack she was doing something for Sawyer, and that she wasn’t going to tell Jack about it because she made a promise to Sawyer. But we’re still guessing that it had to do with Clem and Cass.

          • dolce says:

And furthermore, did Sawyer ever know he got Cassid pregnant?

    • KeepingAwake says:

      @ Dolce:

Yes, he does know that he has a daughter by Cassidy and he knows her name.

Remember when Sawyer was in prison (3.04 Every Man For Himself) and he earned himself a stake of some stolen money and told the warden to put it all in an account for Clementine in Albuquerque, with no way for her to trace the money’s source? After he had denied that Clementine was his to Cassidy earlier in the episode?

  9. Vayne81 says:

In my opinion, Sawyer needs a woman like Juliet, and Kate needs a man like Jack. Other than that, my true opinion of the love triangles, who really cares? It doesn’t have any meaning to the islands mysteries… Unless of course, the Adam and Eve skeletons turn out to be Sawyer and Juliet.

    • simplevincent says:

god if it is i hope it has way more gravity than it simply just being them.

    • Seabiscuit says:

Kate would be better off on her own than with a man like Jack IMO. If Sawyer somehow takes it into his head to stick with Juliet (doubtful), then I’d rather see Kate go off on her own and become Danielle v2.0 and live like a wild woman than go back to Jack. He’s just no good with the ladies.

Or she can find Claire and they get together and can raise Aaron as has been suggested on other boards. Clate doesn’t sound all that bad…

  10. KeepingAwake says:

    Listening now and enjoying it!

In future podcasts, can you let us know how many minutes it is likely to run?

  11. richard keenan says:

nice one boys!! good job! i got home, watched the episode then came on here to find this, nice suprise :)

  12. MsDee says:

I enjoyed the podcast. What a treat!

  13. longlivekingnick says:

I left you a voicemail on skype. I kinda sounded like an idiot because I was winging it.

But basically my theory is that Ben cannot be on the island that this time. The reason that I know this is because Sawyer (LaFleur) is head of security during this time period. Due to the amount of people living on the Dharma compound at any given time, I think it is irrational to think that Sawyer doesn’t know everyone there by first and last name. I think it is ridiculous to think that he would just let Roger and Ben Linus slip through the cracks.

I also posted that when Ben runs out into the jungle in “man behind the curtain” to find his mother he meets Alpert. Richard does look like the Richard we know though. He is all beat up looking, and rather homely. In stark contrast to the Richard we know and love, who is rather cleaned up. Something happens (the incident) that forces Richard and the others away from their camp (possibly the temple, or somewhere else) and into hiding. I think this is because older Ben Linus shows up… and he is pissed. He is mad that he is forced to leave the island, and that he got cancer, and that his daugher died, and that john locke is the new leader. He wants some kind of revenge on Jacob… and he might get it. W00T

  14. Ryan says:

Didn’t Sun say she blamed two people for Jin’s death and her father was one of them or am I making that up / we don’t think she meant it anymore?

    • Ryan says:

I only say that because when that was brought up during the podcast I heard you guys say it was Ben and Widmore who she blamed…unless I heard wrong…in which case I’d be embarrassed…

      I’ll just get my coat

  15. dtruth says:

I think it is highly unlikely and thankfully so, that Sawyer will end up with Juliet. I truly feel nothing for them as a couple. There is no spark there. It’s sweet and cute but that’s not what I am looking for. It is a relationship that arose out of circumstance so this idea that it is some deep mature 3 year relationship that supercedes everything else does not fly with me. It took one minute of seeing Sawyer look at Freckles at the end there and I forgot completely the flower and cuddle with Juliet that is supposedly to erase 4 seasons of amazing scenes between Sawyer and Kate. Ofcourse, Juliet is a better woman for Sawyer but Love is not a rehabilitation programme. It’s not who is better for you, it’s who you love and want. That is clearly Kate with all her many flaws. This is the 3rd man for Juliet on that Island and each time they’ve had prior emotional attachments with other women. How about finding a man of her own? Again, how can anyone think Sawyer was being genuine with Horace when he was talking about 3 years? So clear he wasn’t and it took 2 mins of Kate being in town for Sawyer to lie to a woman he was with for 3 years. The statue is not AnibusIMHO, it is the Egyptian Goddess of fertility. Josh Holloway on the official Lost podcast was also hoping that he could return back to the edgier Sawyer. He also said he and Elizabeth Mitchell were surprised with where the writers went with Juliet and Sawyer. We all are, Josh and extremely disappointed but I guess Josh can’t say that :)

This calm caring Sawyer is not sitting well with me. I have to respectfully say, Did not enjoy this podcast. Maybe next time. Too many uhhms and ahhms, and it almost feels like you guys don’t understand the show anymore than I do and I know that’s not true :) Plus you are Jaters :) No self respecting non-shipper would enjoy something as stiff as Sawyer/Juliet. 3 years is nothing to Jules. She had 3 years with Goodwin, a married man and she’s always cooking. Maybe it’s something in her food. LOL. Well, good old destructive Kate(My favourite character by the way) is bound to cause mayhem. Looking forward to it.

    • KeepingAwake says:

Well, I’m not a shipper and I really liked the way Sawyer and Juliet’s relationship evolved. It was believable to me.

  16. blowupchurch says:

I think we’ve got to remember that Sawyer is a conman – working a fake name and fake background to fit into 70s Dharma. What else is he faking? To me, there’s something fishy about the Juliet thing – we’ve only seen the first day and the last two of 70s Dharma, we have no idea what schemes he’s cooked up in the meantime to keep everyone from taking the sub. I think his conversation with Jin about area sweeps/co-ordinates shows he’s still dedicated to bringing O6 back – he believed in John.

It may be completely wrong – but I’m just not buying the Sawyer-LeFleur transistion. He’s still the Polar Bear shooting son-of-a-bitch underneath it all.

Any one else feel that 1 episode is not long enough for the survivors to tell their story, compared to the whole of season 4 for the O6? Hope there is more.

    • simplevincent says:

that’s a good point…he is starting off this new life with a lot of lies. I personally think he has more dedication to John and his mission (“As long as it takes…”) and is just enjoying what time and luxury the island will afford him until It calls him back into the fray.

    • dtruth says:

I was waiting for someone else to say this. It crossed my mind but I am not good with theorising about this show, I thought I better shut up :) It all looked too sweet even. The whole walking along smiling, picking up the flower, smelling it, Jules cooking, I believe in you, and all that other jazz. If Sawyer had woken up in a cold sweat in the next scene as if he had just had a nightmare it would have been more believable to me. Plus, I can’t do a re-watch but did anyone else think Juliet shot one of the kidnappers a bit too quickly? I think even Sawyer gave her a look. The hostile did not seem an immediate threat to Sawyer at the time and Sawyer was the one holding a gun, so that shot from Jules seemed to have come out of nowhere for no reason. I know Sawyer shot the 2nd guy but did Jules take the “I got your back” thing too seriously or does she know something we don’t? We must remember, she has now been on that Island for 6 years. Longer than any of our Losties. There must be more to it than Juliet staying back because of Sawyer.

Also, it makes no sense that Sawyer and Juliet are supposedly so happy together and yet, Sawyer and Jin were still obsessed with waiting and finding thre 06.

      • simplevincent says:

I think the point of the enunciation on Juliet’s look after she quick-drawed that filthy hostel scum (kidding) is just trying to reiterate the point that Juliet can seriously hold her own. They had the same sort of moment in The Little Prince when the gang was on the Zodiac and had shots fired at them from a canoe, at which point Juliet returned fire and (apparently) killed one of the assailants from like, deep. She’s an olympic marksmen, i guess.

        • BlowupChurch says:

I think Juliet is still hiding things too – seems like she’s got something up her sleeve. Remember that she was utilised by the Others to work on Jack when he was in the Hydra cage – so I’d say her con skills are almost on a par with Saywer’s.

I’m not sure if I’m saying the relationship is a fake – but there’s something fishy. Do the houses in New Otherton/Dharmaville have the surveillance cameras in at this stage?

Good ol’ Sawyer, believing in Locke like that.

          • simplevincent says:

I have to admit that I really didn’t like Juliet until this season, i think. She just felt like a Grey’s Anatomy import.

    • RandomZombie says:

I think that the entire point of the James-Juliet pairing is that characters on Lost can EVOLVE!

Isn’t one of the most significant features of the island the fact that it lets you start over?
Sawer was a con-man off the island, he was a con-man after the crash, but that had to do with the fact that he refused to let himself get close to anyone. He hated himself and wanted others to hate him, as well.
He’s dealt with his past – confronting the original “Sawer,” and has learned that it’s okay to let people get a little close.
He accepted a position of leadership, taking responsibility for his fellow time-travelers by making the decision to tell the lie of where they came from. A lie that was necessary for their survival
He took responsibility for his own actions (and those of his group) when talked to Richard about the encounter in which they met Amy. And I think it’s worth noting that he did not lie to Richard.

To say that he can’t have feelings for Juliet, or vice versa, is a serious discredit to the characters that have been so well developed up to this point.
He had his emotions toyed with by Kate, I don’t think that he would do that to Juliet.
He has no reason to distance himself from the few people who actually know who he is and what he’s been through.

      • BlowupChurch says:

Whilst I agree that characters can evolve – I think it more of a discredit to say that their old characters (developed and revealed over 5 seasons) have just disappeared after 1 episode.

I’ve said it before – we’ve only seen the first day and the last two days of their time in 70s Dharma. We have no idea what has happened in the past three years.

        • BlowupChurch says:

Also, never said that he didn’t have feelings for her – just that there was something fishy. After all, Lost fans shouldn’t ever take things at face value, right?

  17. jackuh says:

Amy’s baby can’t be Jacob. When Locke went into the Others’ camp in ‘54 (?) he told Alpert that Jacob sent him and that obviously held weight with Alpert. I guess if it is some reincarnation of Jacob it could work. What do you think? Yes/no?

  18. BlowupChurch says:

Well there are rumours about who it is – but I’d like to think the reveal will have more gravity than that. The rumoured name would have been a biggie – but not enough to delay it for another 2 weeks.

    • simplevincent says:

      damn…2 weeks?

      • BlowupChurch says:

        Yeah, lame.

Juliet again – why does she always cut people off before they get to the good stuff. Like when John was questioning young Widmore in the 50’s. Fishy, I tell ye.

  19. angiewangee says:
