Lost – Find 815 Back for Round 2?

Find815.com has been updated with a journal page from Sam Thomas reading (click to enlarge):

“Not sleeping again.
Something’s still not right.

The reporters have stopped calling. Everyone is moving on. Flight 815 is a closed book for them. They think they have all the answers they need.

But I don’t…

Could this be a second go around for Find 815? Where Sam finds out where the plane actually crashed, and he finally gets the answers he deserves. Or is it getting relaunched to give fans a second chance to play through the ARG?

Part One: Sam Finds the ‘Black Rock’

Navigating the Reef
The Chapter starts off with Sam telling Ockham that he can triple his money, just if they use his coordinates to find the Black Rock. Ockham punches in the coordinates, and tells Sam to steer the ship while he distracts Mr. Talbot. Unfortunately for Sam, reefs have just been detected and he has to avoid them. When the picture of the reef radar is viewed in its entirety, it looks like Sonya.

The Wind Plays Tricks on You
Sam hears Sonya calling him, Ockham explains that it is only the wind. “The wind plays tricks on you when you are this far out here,” then the last clue hunt begins…

Braving the Storm
After you find the first 3 season clues, your are sent to take control of the Christiane I during a storm. Avoid electrically charged clouds and tidal waves to keep from being taken down. If you successfully get through the storm without wrecking the ship, you get the clue word: Southfields

Sam’s Diary: The Man in the Glitch II
Sam is very excited in his last video diary, he exclaims “We found it!” But he isn’t the star this time, the glitches pop up more prominently than any other time. Who is this Man in the Glitch? Mr. Talbot makes his return in Sam’s video glitches, and it seems he is giving a report in finding Flight 815… (Image Credit: José)

The Search for the Black Rock
Sam’s final task aboard the Christiane I is to pilot the drones inside the Sunda Trench, and look for the Black Rock. Your job is to hit all the waypoints in 3 minutes. The best way to achieve it is to do the bottom to rows of waypoints at once, and the top two rows in a zig-zag pattern.

That’s not the Black Rock…
Sam finds nothing from the search grid and Ockham really starts to lose it. But then, what’s this? A plane? It isn’t the Black Rock after all, but Oceanic Air Flight 815.

Part Two: Sam isn’t alone…

Tracey gives Sam a call. She says she knows his anniversary is coming up, and wants to reassure him that he isn’t alone. She is there if he needs here.

Part Three: Emails

Sent
	Sam has gotten an offer for a job, but declines it based on his current circumstances.
	Sam responds to Tracey’s Voice Mail, but he says he doesn’t have the time to talk. He says something bad is going on…

Received
	Sam has been offered the job that he requested way back in the earlier chapters.
	The last cryptic email of the game, it reads 411151057. This translates to “All is Lost” from ‘Leet’ (or 1337) speak. (411 15 1057 = ALL IS LOST)

Part Four: Websites

Ocean Forecasts
	This website predicts the rough weather in the Braving the Storm game. Something else to note, when the image is darkened a graph is revealed.

Updated Maxwell Group Site
	The Maxwell Group website (the-maxwell-group.com) has been updated. Its spiffed up, and has an interview of Mr. Talbot on finding the Flight 815 crash. The ship in the logo is directly from the Chapter 3 Clue Hunt.

Part Five: The Aftermath

The End of Find 815… or is it?

The end of Find 815 was very unsettling, even though it was exactly as the title said, Flight 815 was found. It ended in tragically for our hero, but could there be more? The Maxwell Group website was updated even though we have yet to get a password.

How Find 815 ties into LOST

That is the big question, how exactly does Find 815 tie into lost? As a treat for reading my recaps, here is your answer:

The next episode of Lost (4.02: Confirmed Dead), starts with the drones from the Christiane I searching the Sunda Trench. Brace yourselves, these drones do not belong to Sam and Mr. Talbot, but some other treasure seekers. They aren’t having any luck, and are feeling a little bit of despair. They get some strange readings, one asks, “Could it be Doubloons?” Instead of treasure, they see the a wing of a plane with a familiar logo, “Oh my God, It’s Oceanic Flight 815!”

Some of you may be pretty new to the whole Find 815 thing, and are probably thinking that you really do not want to go through all the work to find the back story on the ‘Golden Pass’ commercial or just want to relive the story of Sam Thomas in its entirety. Don’t fret, here is the complete story of Find815.com, the total runtime is less than 42 minutes (just think of it as another episode of Lost). Our good friend Speaker is hearing from his mysterious sources again. Could this be the purple sun pulsing it’s neural morse code into the silhouetted ones cranium? That is a mystery that may be larger than any on Lost island itself, but here me… the info is important:

“I got this strange e-mail telling me there might be an
announcement from Oceanic after LOST during the premiere of Eli Stone.
I don’t know what the announcement’s about… it could be ANYTHING!
Feel free to speculate and tell me, because I love that stuff!

Apparently there’s going to be some never before seen LOST clips on Jimmy Kimmel Wednesday night!”

Find 815 – Chapter 4 Recap

The rules of the game have changed this week, with more going on by the blogs than on the actual site. Which means all the more reason to have a recap that encompasses every aspect of the game this week. Think you may have missed something? Don’t worry, here is everything you need to know for Week 4 of the Find 815 ARG.

Part One: Snooping Around the Christiane I

Hacking the Chart Plotter
Sam has decoded the two mysterious emails and has his coordinates! However, he must use Talbot’s Chart Plotter to locate the position. He switches off the display, tells the captain that there is something wrong with it, and precedes to hack into the plotter to use it. Your job is to make sure he finds the password before Ockham comes back with Talbot. This is the hardest game to date, and there are few tricks to getting the right password in time. Here is DocArzt’s strategy.

Mysterious Green Lights
The Clue Hunt starts with an intro of Sam looking off the side of the Christiane I. He sees a strange green light, and grabs some binoculars to grab a closer look. Could this be the result of the hatch detonation? (Check Part 7: Theories for more information)

Hunting for Clues, Again
The Clue Hunt has been featured in every chapter so far, so here we go again. The clues from this week are: Vincent, The Swan, Naomi’s Parachute, and a Santa Rosa: Mental Health Institute Bottle. Vincent is found in the top-left of the shelf, The Swan is in the middle of the table, the Parachute is to the left of the LCD Screen, and the Pills are found above the First Aid cabinet. Find the Waypoint Locations
Before you have access to the Season 4 Clue, you have to locate the positions of different coordinates on the Chart Plotter. Depending on where you play the game the clue words are Frank Lapidus and Miles Straume.

Santa Rosa
The Season 4 Hint is the Santa Rosa: Mental Health Institute Bottle, but what do the numbers mean on the bottom of the bottle? (see Part 6: Cryptic Puzzles for the answer)

Sam’s Diary: 20% More Equations!
In this weeks video diary Sam recaps his week, and shows how confused he is over Mr. Talbot. He also says that his 8th Anniversary with Sonya is coming up. There are more and more glitches each week, this time a famous paper by James Clerk Maxwell is shown in several of them.

Part Two: Investing Works!

This weeks voicemail is from Richard, and he says that the Box Company that Sam invested in has burned down. Sam will be getting that money from it, which is much larger than his severance pay from Oceanic Air.

Part Three: Emails

Sent
	The first sent email is Sam’s response to Richard’s call about the money from insurance, he just needs some tax details.
	This email is for Tracey, Sam says he won’t follow up on the holiday (which means he is oblivious to everything to do with OpenStego), and he asks her if his mum is still speaking to him.
	Another one for Tracey, Sam is asking her what the green lights he saw were.

Received
	Tracey sent an email with a mum update, her worries are eased a bit with the news of Sam.
	This is the third mysterious email, when decrypted it becomes “Love you Madly.” (See Part 6: Cryptic Puzzles for solution)
	Tracey responds to Sam’s last message about the green lights. She jokes a bit, and explains they are the Aurora Australis, which are natural. However, she says they may be related to the strange behavior of the equipment on the bridge (in Chapter 3′s Clue Hunt).

Part Four: Websites

Hidden Numbers in Sunda Trench
	This hidden chart of numbers was found hidden on one of Sam’s Laptop websites called Sunda Trench. What could they mean?

Aurora Australis
	Fueled by his curiosity and Tracey’s scientific knowhow, Sam has visited an informational page on the Aurora Australis.

Part Five: The OpenStego Saga

Only a week ago, in a forum just a few clicks from here, someone posted a cryptic message containing skulls that were found to lead to a encoded message inside a stegosaurus. This someone was OurMutualFriend42, while many people (myself included) dismissed the message as nothing, she turned out to be the real deal. Let’s start at the beginning…

A Subtle Hint Drop
OurMutualFriend42 (OMF42) posted an image that was composed of different skulls, this image turned out to be a kind of font. Once you would type the skulls as the appeared in the image and switched the font, the message would appear as www.baliholidayfun.com. The website seemed as a normal, cheesy, travel website, but it was only a picture. In the description of the travel agency they had a contact email, baliholidayfun@gmail.com. Upon emailing it, you will get a cryptic message.

Inside the message is a site, http://www.find815.com/steg/stegosaurus.png, which contains a picture of a Stegosaurus. But that was the end of the trail until later in the week. (See the full autoreply at:Find815.Blogspot.com)

Hidden Morse Code Message
In the voicemail message that Sam received last week, the waveform showed a shift between left and right speaker. These shifts turned out to be Morse code, the message read: OpenStego. (Image Credit: Persagax)

Enter OpenStego
The description from its home page reads: “OpenStego is a tool implemented in Java for image based steganography, with support for password-based encryption and decryption of the data. It currently supports embedding of messages/files in a 24bpp images.” This image is the Stegosaurus, but what could be the password?

Braille Glitch
In the Chapter 3 Video Diary, there is a frame that contains braille characters. When translated the braille message has just a bunch of random letters (with/DXINADFJI), but does not end up being the password for the Stegosaurus picture. (Image Credit: Steff)

Arrows and Numbers
After a week of guessing passwords with no payout, a frame of the hack the Chart Plotter Success video has some hidden arrows and number signs. The arrows correspond to upper and lower case letters, and the numbers are the braille equivalent. This gives the OpenStego password: X4x98adf09

Walt Whitman’s Famous Poem
The encrypted information from the image is in binary code, which can be translated into ASCII, and then finally into the title of Walt Whitman’s poem, When I heard the Learn’d Astronomer. Here is the poem:

“When I heard the learn’d astronomer;
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me;
When I was shown the charts and the diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them;
When I, sitting, heard the astronomer, where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room,
How soon, unaccountable, I became tired and sick;
Till rising and gliding out, I wander’d off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars.”

That is where the saga ends, but don’t worry there may be something that connects with it. OurMutualFriend42 has sent out more information in the form of a flickr account (read about it below).

Part Six: Other Cryptic Puzzles

T. Killen in the Hack
An old contact from the first chapter has reemerged! Everytime Sam uses the hack program in the Hacking the Chart Plotter game, some numbers always stay the same, 45 75 73 76 76 69 78 95 84 45. These numbers correspond to
-KILLEN-T-, who is rumored to be one of the designers for the game. (Source: Find815.Blogspot.com)

Cryptic Love Letter
Sam recieved another cryptic email this week, but this time it wasn’t coordinates. The code translates into “Love You Madly.” Once all the numbers are removed 24 anagrams of two-digit numbers remained. These anagrams are doubled so the numbers aren’t misinterpreted, leaving 12 numbers, 12 15 22 5 25 15 22 13 1 4 12 25. Which translates into
“L O V E Y O U M A D L Y.” (Source: Find815.Blogspot.com)

Pill Bottle Secrets
TAE over at DarkUFO was the one to find the hidden message on the pill bottle (with help by a mysterious poster named “Lost Forever”). The numbers translate into each letter of the alphabet (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc..), and must be inverted to become useheaddsj tgfmkudmw. Then put the letters through a Caesarian Cipher and set N to 8. The result is campmillar bonusclue, which can be found here.

OurMutualFriend42 Images
OMF42 has put some images up on flickr. They are of her superimposed on the big dipper, along with many other astronomy themed images (Walt Whitman). There is also a definition of anagram.

Video Glitches lead to Electromagnetism Paper
In this weeks video diary there are many glitches, but a large number of them contain images from James Clerk Maxwell’s Paper on Electromagnetism from March 1861. (Source: Find815.Blogspot.com)

Part Seven: Theory

Lost Island Found?
Team Brazil has come up with a theory which pegs Rotuma Island as being THE Island. They found this by inverting the coordinates by switching east and west. The basis for the swap is that the Maxwell Group’s comapss is inverted and the astronomers compass is inverted (Source: Find815.Blogspot.com).

Could James Clerk Maxwell be Jacob?
The wikipedia picture of J. C. Maxwell has a striking resemblance to the way Jacob was portrayed in Season 3. xENigMax over at DarkUFO has put the two pictures together, and the result is uncanny.

Hatch Explosion Caused the Mysterious Lights
Rafael, who is a member of Team Game Brazil, has created another theory that the hatch explosion could have caused the Aroura that Sam saw. The electromagnetic energy that came as a result of the explosion could last for more than days, and cause disturbances just like the one Sam saw. Since the explosion happened November 25, and Sam came around the next month this is a plausible explanation.

Is the island hidden by a strong electromagnetic field?
Another mysterious chatroom presence, “Lasagna Resumes”, has lead to the theory of CTC by some posters over at DarkUFO. The mysterious chatter has been talking in anagrams, and lead the folks present in the chatroom to a wikipedia page about “Closed Timelike Curves (CTC).” Apparently, these CTCs were tested during WWII to render a battleship invisible, could this same method be used to cloak the island? Please Note that both instances of “Lasagna Resumes” and “OurMutualFriend42″ in this chat are unconfirmed, and could be completely fake.

Our Mutual Friend – An Overlooked ‘Lost’ Connection?

It’s easy top miss this because at first glance it appears a simple indication that anagrams may be involved in OMF’s now famous flickr page.

Many of the pictures have a “lost” connection. The reverse big dipper is part of Lost lore from some time back. The ‘Numbers’ 4815162342 encoded in her strap with +8. Could that mean 108+8? 116?

The anagram line, though, is from “The Temple: Sacred Poems and Private….” ahem “Private…” uh, something that should be private. You can get the whole book here for free.

We rely entirely on the crack team at DarkUFO for today’s update. I’ve been finishing off a very cool project for UGO.com, which I hope you get to see by weeks end, and Koobie has been busy with some life stuff. We are on board and fully loaded for tonight’s release, so don’t forget to drop by.

Find 815 – Koobie’s Week 2 Recap

This week has had some girth to it, and you may want to pick up on some of the things that you may have missed. Who is the man behind the glitch? What is the clue word to find my last clue? What do all those grayed out numbers mean in that mysterious email? Here is everything you need to know about chapter 2!

Part Zer0: The Man in the Glitch

Where was he?
This mysterious green man was found on a single frame towards the end of the video diary that was posted at the end of chapter one. In the video he appears purple, but when the color is inverted he appears green.

How do I find him?
There are two ways to find the Man in the Glitch the first way is to head onto Flight815.com and pause the video at the exact second that he appears. It appears at the end of Sam saying he received "coded messages from this group called Maxwell." The other alternative is video capture and pulling apart the frames, which is explained in this Find 815 for dummies installment.

Who is he?!
The first video of chapter two revealed who this mysterious man is, Oscar Talbot.

Part One: Adventure at Sea

Recap
If you would go to Find815.com right now you would find the recap video that quickly sums up the previous chapter.

Intro
The intro shows Sam getting onto the Christiane I, and he has an opportunity to become an asset to the captain if he can fix the boat’s GPS.

Fix the Chart Plotter
The game consists of three different puzzle boards, your goal is to rotate the pieces so that these circuits of the GPS are lined up and grounded within 3 minutes.

Success and Failure
There are two videos that play as a result of how you do on the game. If you fail Sam has proven nothing, but if you win you secure Sam a position aboard the Christiane I.

Clue Hunt: Part 2
After a short video, containing Sam getting the broadcast that Amelia Earhart has disappeared, you are once again required to look for clues for each season. After finding clues 1-3, you have to go play the Black Rock Trivia Game.

Black Rock Quiz
Here is a quick quiz, where you have to listen to Tracey’s voicemail message about the Black Rock. There are 8 questions and they vary for everyone. After you finish the quiz with a 100%, you are awarded the clue word ’423 Cheyne Walk’. Enter that into the Season 4 clue, and it will be revealed.

Part Two: More Mum Worries

Mum is still worried about Sam, and would like it if he would call her back.

Part Three: Emails

Sent
	The first email is a research request for Tracey. There are some interesting factors, Sam tells Tracey that Tracey was always "Better at this sort of thing." That could be a general statement, but has Sam been involved in sleuthing before?
	This is the accidental release from last week, and it is about Sam getting his ducks in order with Oceanic Air.
	Sam is sending Tracey another research request, this time it is about Mr. Talbot. After a quick status report about being on the Christiane I, Sam reveals Mr. Talbot’s first name, Oscar. Sam also says Mr. Talbot is a real ‘slippery fellow’ and he thinks if he knows more informaton about Talbot, he will ultimately learn more about where the expidition is headed.
	During the Clue Hunt video, Sam hears a strange broadcast about the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. He is emailing the Broadcast Authority to find the origin of the message.
	A third email to Tracey gives us a heads up that something is going on with his camera, and strange images may appear in the video diary.

Received
	This email is sent by "Sender" and has no subject, and the body consists of 27 lines of numbers. Some of the numbers are lighter than others and when put together form -11.1784. This is theorized (by Lectric74 and Technoprep) to be the latitude coordinate of Flight 815! See the theory section for more information.
	The company that Sam applied for last week, Austral Air, does not have any available positions for Sam at the moment.
	Tracey’s first email of the week turns up no results for Sam’s ‘Black Rock’ request, but it does find a couple things on Mr. Talbot. He comes from a wealthy family that has a blurry history in the diamond trade.
	The Broadcasting Authority did not have any broadcasts that were about Amelia Earhart, but they told him there is a possibility of the boradcast to come from amateur radio.
	Tracey replies to Sam’s email about the camera, and says there is nothing wrong with it.
	Tracey gives Sam a ton of information on the Black Rock, it adds a little more information to the voicemail report from the quiz. Specifically the company that owned the Black Rock was bought out, but bought again by the Hanso Group and then renamed. As a result, the company stayed in the family.

Black Rock
	The Black Rock website gives another variation of the ship’s lore.

Sunda Stories
	The Sunda Stories website gives the grim history behind the Sunda Trench, it is a site that is just like the Bermuda Triangle. With 21 reports of vanishing craft, our eyes are drawn to the bottom of the page: "In addition to these, there have been reports of a high incidence of unexplained electronics failure in the area. Compasses have also been known to behave erratically." Could this be the result of some kind of unique electromagnetic properties?

Part Six: Theoretical Analysis

The Latitude of Flight 815
A satellite image that shows the line for the -11.1784 latitude. There is also a theory that this might have something to do with the Black Rock and the location of the island. If you notice that line cross pretty close to Papua New Guinea. Acording to the history revealed during TLE that is where the Black Rock was last seen. Adam and Eve: Earhart and Noonan
It has been speculated that Adam and Eve were Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan since season 1, but in light of the recent broadcast this theory comes up once again. Team Game Brazil has put all the facts together, the producers hinted towards the possibility with the Herarat Aviation reference in "Not in Portland" which is an anagram for Earhart.

SpOOky has another Amelia Earhart theory, that she is Amelia the Other.

Morse Code in the Air Waves
During the Clue Hunt video, Sam experienced some static along with the Earhart broadcast. This static was theorized to be the Morse Code of the numbers, but DocArzt has since debunked the theory. The static is only aesthetic.

A: All you need to do is start chapter 1 over again, do the two email games (the picture differences and the maxwell group email), and then the box will turn green!

The end is approaching quickly, and the closer we get the harder the games seem to be. Tonight’s was probably the hardest yet. For those of you who haven’t attempted yet the rules are like this:

Sam has hacked out 8 characters of the password. Only 5 actually belong and the order is unknown. We have 10 attempts to get it right. Oh, and everytime you fail the 8 characters change. There may be easier ways to win and I definitely hope you’ll submit your strategy. Here is mine.

I started out with the strategy that I was going to lose, alot, but hope for the best. So what I did was enter only one letter at a time in each row. Odds are in your favor that you’ll have eliminated the negatives within five tries. You know they are a negative if all of the dots are black. One red dot and they are part of the password.

In your remaining attempts its all about the order. Lay out a random order them turn the letters in twos. The order of the dots do not mean anything. If you are luck, again prepare to lose many times, you will move a character into place, then use another group to try to determine which of the two is in place. When you move the one that is in place, you’ll lose a dot. When you move the others, if you are luck you will gain more. The more you have, the fewer moves it takes to figure it out. It took me about seven attempts to solve.

Part One: Snooping Around the Christiane I

Rummaging through Talbot’s Cabin
After the intro to the chapter, Sam wants to find out who Mr. Talbot works for. After seeing that Talbot left his cabin open, he decides to sleuth around. After some creative problem solving you will have access to Mr. Talbot’s briefcase. Notice that the letters A.M.M. are stamped on the front of the briefcase, then look up A. Mullins on the Satellite phone. His number is 259-852-930, since all the numbers have ’259′ omit it, and the code to open the briefcase is 852-930.

Strange Electrical Interference
While walking about the Chrisitane I at night Sam comes across some strange behavior by the electronics, then the Clue Hunt: Part 3 starts up.

Mr. Talbot’s Search Grid
Once again you have to work for your season 4 clue, after finding the newspaper you are redirected to their network partner’s website. In this game you have to connect all the waypoint paths without going over the same patch twice. Here is DocArzt’s solution:

Sam’s Diary: Now with more Glitches!
Sam recaps his week, and announces that he has figured out the messages and will use Talbot’s Search Grid to find the location of Flight 815. There were also a hefty amount of glitches, check them out here.

Part Two: Oh No, Sam Lost his Miles!

Sam finally gets a phone call from someone other than his “mum”. This time it is from an Oceanic Air Executive, name, and he is going to take Sam’s miles away. The waveform on this message is interesting, it switches in between left and right, could this be Morse code?

Part Three: Emails

Sent
	Sam asks Tracey to let his “mum” know that he is fine, and says that he won’t be home beofre Christams. Could this mean that this is taking place before Christmas of 2004?
	Ian and Pam, Sonya’s parents, have asked Sam to sta with them during his and Sonya’s Anniversary. He has declined seeing as he is out of the area.
	Sam is asking Tracey what could have happened with the electronics to make them randomly malfunction.

Received
	The second cryptic email, this time with all letters. It may have the solution to the longitude of Flight 815, check out the theory section for more information.
	Ian and Pam, Sonya’s Parents, are asking Sam to stay with them during his anniversary. They want to help him coup with the loss of Sonya.
	Tracey has a few resons why the electronics behaved strangely, but the one that sticks out is that it may have been caused by electromagnetic energy. Is this energy coming from the island? Tracey also tells Sam he needs a vacation, and should check out www.baliholidayfun.com.

Part Four: The Search for the Maxwell Group

Part Five: Theory

Longitude

The cryptic message sent at the beginning of the week is theorized to have the longitude set of coordinates. Some letters in the email are smaller than others, “AABBCFC”. If A=1, B=2, etc. then the letters should represent the coordinate 112.2363.

In the middle segment of the clue hunt, on the left hand door, a ghostly image can be seen. Is it Sonya’s spirit watching over Sam? Nope. It is, in fact, an overlay of the very first email that Sam received from the mysterious Maxwell Group. You can see that the text matches up perfectly.

Find 815 – Other Set of Coordinates Found and New Emails

Find815.com has just been updated with 4 new emails, one of which contains the longitude coordinates of Flight 815. (click to enlarge)

Out of this cryptic alphabet email, we can see that some letters are smaller than others. Here is what Donnie found:

“The letters aabcfc are smaller than the rest. Looks like a hex number to me.
It’s decimal value is 11189500. Could be the longitude 111.8950 . Thats right
next to the Sunda Trench.“

With the latitude of -11.1784 acquired from the other cryptic email, the location of Flight 815 could be (-11.1784, 111.8950). There is another theory on DarkUFO (by jlg628jlg) which puts the latitude at 112.2363.
