Is this where they got the color scheme for the DHARMA Van?

That looks just like the DHARMA van, surely this is no coincidence. Whether this was an intentional time travel clue or just a simple shout out only Darlton can say, but it’s pretty cool either way.

The video is full of fun little Dharma recruiting tidbits, from interrogating a college student on his choice of a halloween costume to the DI owning Area 51 (another vile vortex?).  The video focuses on two recruitment centers of the DI, Area 51 and Portland, Oregon.  They even interview Olivia Goodspeed’s father about her disappearance and recruitment into the DI.

A couple of easter eggs even pop up in this 6 minute video.  AS the narrator discusses Area 51 you can see LOST printed on the side of an “alien spacecraft”, and one of the “strange questions” that the DI asks for recruitment is “Who is your constant?”

The MU team leaves you with a little gem at the end of the video, “This place setting is serving up mystery.”  Check out the full video at abc.com.

First of all, the version of the video that was posted here yesterday was always the nudia.tv embed.  I assume this is okay, since the Nudia.TV videos offer embedding.  It’s a great way to grow the brand for sure.

Next, one of our contributors on TVOvermind.com posted the video as well – but their version came from youtube,  this is where it gets dicey.  Since the video is not watermarked “Nudia.TV” anywhere on it, he wouldn’t have any idea that they were the source of the video.  If I had posted the video it would have been the Nudia.TV source and not the YouTUBE, because I personally know who released the video.  He did not. He thought this was something floating around in the wild.  So…

The bottom line is that now this accusation is being made: That I took the Nudia.TV video and put it on YouTUBE.

Not true.  First of all, the publisher of the youtube video (which can be found here) is named andre, and since he’s had his channel since 2006 I think we can assume he’s legit.  Next, while I was definitely aware of the source of the video – I’d recognize Jay’s laugh anywhere – my contributor on TVOvermind was not, and therefore is completely innocent of any sort of impropriety. My fault for assuming he used the same Nudia.TV embed we used here on DocArzt.com, which gives proper credit.

For sure, as we’ve gone on in the past, theft on YouTUBE is rampant.  If you are in the vodcast business, you gotta make sure you watermark everything.  People complain about how I watermark any exclusive footage I get here, but it is because as soon as I post it the footage is on half a dozen youtube channels and if you don’t visually watermark nobody knows where it came from.  I don’t begrudge the people who use the videos, because at the end of the day they may not know who it came from if it is not watermarked, or if the watermarks were cropped out – which happens all the time.

The bottom line is: yes, we did publish the youtube video on TVOvermind,  but we did not upload the video to youtube, and at the time it was published the contributor who published it did not know if was from Nudia.TV Of course, as soon as I was aware of this I corrected the citing and put the correct embed in to give Nudia.TV their proper credit.  There is no conspiracy here where I was trying to claim I had snagged some exclusive footage, or anything like that.  In fact, I didn’t even post it – although to be fair, it’s my site so I’m responsible.  The question is, did I act responsibly in fixing the problem?  Sure.  I feel 100% confident of that.  Was it responsible to accuse me of stealing the video and putting it on youtube when you can easily see the name of the person who posted it on youtube, and it is not me?  I guess you’ll have to answer that to me.

in my opinion, the etching depicts smokey and the wheel in conflict.  The elements face one another from opposite sides.  Since we’ve seen what remains of Anubis, and know Smokey is still around we know how that fight – if that is what this depicts – turned out.  If this is true, are the ‘original people’ the Egyptians?  Or are the others/hostiles interlopers of yet another brand?

Today, Apple gave a preview of the next iPhone OS to developers. Something quite interesting that I noticed while finding images of the presentation online is a reference to Oceanic Flight 815. Take a look for yourslef. Someone high up within Apple is a fan of Lost!

Remember last episode when Hurley was painting an Egyptian scene?  In the season 4 premiere Hurley was seen painting Eskimos, which naturally put forth the idea that Hurley was somehow psychically aware of how Penny had found the island.  Has Hurley demonstrated his psychic painting skills – ala Isaac Mendez – yet again?  Could be.  We got our first full body look at the four-toed-statue, and he certainly looks like he could have been featured in Hurley’s water color.

There is little doubt amongst the LOST sleuthing community that old-four-toes is in fact Anubis, the Greek name for the Egyptian god of the dead.  Anubis acts as escort for the dearly departed on their way to the afterlife.  Those of you still clinging to the purgatory theory should love that.

To add a little heavy handed punctuation to the matter, LOST’s evil Easter egg planters gave Amy an Ankh to hang onto.  Ankhs are the symbol for eternal life in the Egyptian symbol language – and Mr. Anubis is grasping two very large ones.

Now as to the over-all significance of this: if this is indeed Mr. Anubis, is the island a chunk of Egypt that was somehow dislodged and set adrift?  Probably not.  Mr. Anubis, given the nature of our special island, is set strategically over-looking the water as if he is the island’s greeter announcing loudly and proudly “Welcome, we have plenty of eternal life for everyone.” It seems to me that the construction of this monument was part of a colonization effort of an epic scale.

The 316 crash landed on Hydra island, and the building Caeser was looting was an office in the Hydra station – this much was revealed by the logo on the files.  Some of the pages inside of the files revealed that the 316′rs are somewhere in the future.  The clues were some photocopies of documents we’ve seen before.

The image on the left is from “The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham,”  and on the right is the same page from season 4.  The page is from Faraday’s notebook.  As we know, in the current timeline Faraday has his notebook.  This clears up the question of whether the 316 folks are in the same timeline as Sawyer, Jack, and company.  The only question from here is, how far into the future are they?

Jorge’s brief scene amounted to “hi, how are you? I’m happy in jail!”  Wasn’t the big caged heat epic I was hoping for, but beggars can’t be choosers. Maybe next week?  Now on to the more revealing stuff.

One of the geekiest moments for me was the island gang seeing the hatch-light from afar.   Oh, but the coolness that could have – and should have – been if Locke run into Locke.  Then again, maybe that would have veared the show into another one of those dreaded Time Travel cliches.

Ajira finally made its first appearance on LOST.  The question is, where in time were the lostaways at this point?  Is there another plane crash on the horizon?  Who were the mysterious ‘Others’ that were following Sawyer and gang?

Your anagram solving script does not deceive you:  that van does say “reincarnation” on it, if you scramble the letters.  What does this mean, reincarnation for Locke?  Perhaps Richard Alpert isn’t ageless at all, maybe reincarnation is what the island’s indigenous cult is all about.

Young Danielle and crew showed up – note Montand still has his fricken arm – but for how long?  If they get caught jumping through time, things could get pretty twisted.  And can everyone join me in asking:  what the heck happened to Daniel’s “if it didn’t happen it can’t happen” rule, and the street metaphors, and all that… nonesense?

Besixdouze is the name of Rousseu’s boat.  It is also the name of a very important ‘mass’ from the book “The Little Prince.”  I suggest you get your butt to wikipedia and start doing some research.

It was like the hatch map and Ben’s journal all over again!  Sun’s intriguing private investigator report kept us busy for an hour or so, until we realized it was swiped from an online game.  (Read the transcript right here.)

Subject came out of the house at 8:15 am, set up a camping chair next to the mailbox, and proceeded to pace the front yard until the mail truck arrived at 12:32 p.m. Subject grabbed mail from letter carrier and ran into the house. I checked the aisle and discovered fully stocked shelves with empty spaces in the rows containing the colors black, green, and red although I cannot positively confirm that the cans were stocked as indicated. I asked the store clerk if the register captured the part number of items purchased but he said he hadn’t scanned the cans of spray paint since he knew the price. I left the store by the rear door and checked the area by foot, but was unable to locate subject.

I returned to the store and again questioned the clerk. Clerk reported that subject used store phonebook to look up number for Oxford City Cab, then remained at counter and used her cell phone to have cab pick her up at Abner’s Restaurant, 430 S Lamar, and take her to Animal Clinic of Oxford, 2008 Harris Drive.

Drove various routes to Animal Clinic but did not sight subject. Visited Animal Clinic. Receptionist stated that she had not seen subject. Returned to ACE Hardware to find subject’s car gone.

INVESTIGATION FINDINGS

It is not possible to conclusively determine whether the subject was involved in the vandalism at Yoknapatawpha County Conference Center. Subject did purchase three cans of spray paint, plastic gloves, and a hammer on the day of the vandalism. Subject evaded surveillance for approximately ten hours, during which time the vandalism could have occurred.

The brewskis that Lapidus fetched from Searcher’s fridge have a somewhat ominous label, and name. ‘Jekyll Island’ brings to mind the Robert Lewis Stevenson novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, which chronicles the adventures of a man who dabbles with science and winds up cursed with a violent alternate personality.  Could this reflect that one of our characters has a hidden darkside?  Maybe not, Jekyll Island is a real place – an island off the coast of Georgia that is named for a real Mr. Jekyll, who did not have a split personality.

Of course, it could mean nothing at all – since the company “Studio Graphics,” which creates props for television shows, was the one that developed the concept.  Innocent choice, or artful use of found props – you be the judge.

Next up is the massive chalk plotter in Mrs. Hawking’s-or should we say Mrs. Faraday’s?-personal Dharma station.  in case you missed the little Dharma logos plastered all over the binders and the computers, let there be no doubt that this is the off-island Dharma station we’ve heard so much about.  Now about that device that is so strange it had to have been made up…

It’s real. The Foucault pendulum was created to verify that the earth was spinning.  The pendulum required a large electromagnet to run indefinitely; and true to their reputation for attention-to-detail – the set included one (see image below.)  Since the device physically extrapolates a reading between the forces of gravity and the magnetic poles, it is capable of ferreting out any associated abnormalities.  The question here is whether LOST’s pendulum is sussing out minor fluctuations in the earth’s gravitational field, or major shifts that could end up spelling doom for our Losties, and the rest of mankind?

From the perspective of an inertial frame outside of Earth, the suspension point of the pendulum traces out a circular path during one sidereal day. No forces act to make the plane of oscillation of the pendulum rotate – the plane contains the plumb line, so the force acting on the pendulum is parallel to the plane of oscillation at all times. But the plane satisfies the constraint that it contains the plumb line. Thus the plane of oscillation undergoes parallel transport. The difference between initial and final orientations is as given by the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. α is also called the holonomy or geometric phase of the pendulum. Thus, when analyzing earthbound motions, the Earth frame is not an inertial frame, but rather rotates about the local vertical at an effective rate of radians per day, which is the magnitude of the projection of the angular velocity of Earth onto the normal direction to Earth.

From the perspective of an Earth-bound coordinate system with its x-axis pointing east and its y-axis pointing north, the precession of the pendulum is explained by the Coriolis force. Consider a planar pendulum with natural frequency ω in the small angle approximation. There are two forces acting on the pendulum bob: the restoring force provided by gravity and the wire, and the Coriolis force. The Coriolis force at latitude φ is horizontal in the small angle approximation and is given by

Many people are asking what Sawyer whispered to Kate on the helicopter. Here is the audio from that scene. The first is the raw audio without enhancements. The second is an enhanced version where the background is as muted as I can get it. This is actually an exaggerated version of what we try to do to isolate the whispers.

With this excerpt, you would have to believe that they had a conversation while the cameras were not “watching.” In “Every Man For Himself” we learn that Sawyer had a daughter named, Clementine Philips. And, we learned that she was in Alburquerque. In the whispers, it sounds like Sawyer gives a location, “in lower…” a request, “Could you find them?” and a name “Thompson.”

UPDATE: BauerUK  said that it sounds like “… if you find her, tell her I’m sorry.”  Once BauerUK pointed that out, it is all I can hear.  Still am not certain about the first phrase.

I haven’t done the transcript yet, but thought you might like to start taking a crack at these.  I will get to the transcript tomorrow.

Since the powers that be have informed us that we will find out the identity of the person in the casket, I thought it would be fruitful to revisit the obituary that got Jack all worked up in last year’s finale “Through the Looking Glass”

From all of the sources that I could find in HD, the following represents the most reasonable recreation of the article.  The source material is included in the gallery at the bottom.  Most of the sources provided are pre-enhancement. 

UPDATE: I took the screen cap from the airplane and enhaced it.  It helps clarify some words, but you could not use that cap to figure out the text alone.  The remaining spaces on the article represent the missing words.  The tildes are not representative of the number of letters in the word.  It only means that it is a short word or a long word.  The number of words remaining in the episode version match the remaining words in the “leaked” version. 

The next is supposedly a leaked version of the article. This was originally posted at The Fuselage.  Make note that there is no proof from any of the source materials for the bottom portion of the article and where the “leaked” version used the word “found,” the version on the episode used “discovered.”  Also, there is an additional word between “to” and “Jaime” in the episode version, most likely “officer.” Also, the name “Lantham” is spelled “Latham” in the part of the article that we cannot make out from the episode.

We found out this season that Jack could not kill himself because the island wouldn’t let him. This obituary gave him some motivation to at least try. We have been left theorizing about the identity of this person since last year. There is a great deal out there about “survived by one teenaged son.”  However, no conclusions can be raised because only the “leaked” version of the article says anything about a son.  At least there will be one question answered, and most likely another one raised.
